I've found that when I listen to classical music while I sleep, I tend to wake up in a better, more relaxed mood, and I'm more productive through the day. I'm not sure what it is about classical music that does this, but I'm not complaining! I've always had a fond affection for classical music, after all

However, strangely enough, listening to a playlist of all my favorite songs doesn't do it for me. I sometimes wake up feeling good but not as often as i wake up feeling bleh.

What kinds of music do you listen to in order to relax?

I tend to listen to sound track music before i go to bed.. Usually
they are Legends of Zelda, Xenosaga series, chrono cross etc

they make me feel happy a form of escapism before I drift off to bed

I listen to classical music to relax (sometimes I just put Moonlight Sonata on loop even) but I've never tried it for sleeping. I don't think BJ would go for it though; he likes to fall asleep to The Office or South Park.

I let the sweet sounds of Patton Oswalt's voice lull me into a deep, comfortable sleep.

I do it sometimes. But I listen to general pop music when I go to sleep.

"The Fountain" soundtrack is beauty beyond words, and it usually gets the job done. That, or some old-fashioned Sean Nos music. :p

I normally listen to a video game soundtrack; Secret of Mana, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Legend of Zelda: OoT are some of my favorites that really help me relax.

I usually like to relax to the sound of rain or ocean waves. And I love classical music; moonlight sonata is one of my favorites~ I also enjoy instrumental music from anime, movies and games~

Arcade Fire and Brand New, or some serene meditation music I have with birds and waterfalls and flutes.

Just popping on the TV on a super-low volume helps me to get to sleep. I don't watch it, I lie down and turn away from it, but the gentle murmur of late night news and infomercials does the trick.

Problem is that I just bought a FlavorWave Oven (a cheap knock-off of one, actually). I wonder if it's having a subliminal effect on me. xDD

Moved to the Lounge~

I tend not to need any particular aural stimulus to relax as long as nobody is drilling concrete nearby or whatever. However, some things work better than others depending on the situation. Sometimes warm and soothing tunes like those of Chet Baker (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jZdG3JpKco), sometimes the ethereal guitars of Explosions in the Sky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0o8JCxjjpM). Sometimes classical (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKk-w_0SpSw) works best, other times jazz (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFkH9V3ylLY) is better, yet other times there's nothing like alt rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsaubMAVHV8). Sometimes any music at all will do, sometimes silence is preferable!
