So, this may come off as lame, and to some down right unspeakable, but I have yet to watch any of the Star Wars movies. I'm here to ask a general opinion of weather or not I should watch them. Please take the time to try to convince me why or why not as well. Also, If you say yes please indicate what order I should watch them in. Thanks for taking this time to procrastinate whatever it is you need to be doing.

Melissaur, I haven't seen them either! And I don't really have any desire to, because I feel like I know everything merely from watching adultswim and other pop culture ridden things.

I join with you in needing to be convinced.

It's tough to watch these movies for the first time at this point. A lot of it will seem cheesy or not live up to the hype. There were made in the 70s-80s after all. But they are still worth watching because they are classics and one of the best if not the best adventure movies ever made.

You should watch Indian Jones instead.

Pop culture ruined the amazing twist at the end of Empire Strikes Back for me.

Play Monkey Island instead

Watch them in order to get nerdy references. I never thought they were super good, but they were worth the time spent watching them.

I won't speak to you again until you have watched them. :colbert:

EDIT: And neither will Eric or Julian for that matter!

Also, If you say yes please indicate what order I should watch them in.

Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi.

And no one will fault you if you don't watch the prequels. They were rather craptastic.

I second Jiro's sentiments as well. This will be my final communication with you until you rectify your error. :p

Since they were an integral part of my childhood I have a very biased opinion. But yes, you probably should watch the greatest trilogy ever made. :p

Yes yes by all godly mean yes.

I won't be surprised if you don't like it, but you should watch it anymattter. It is a classic and there are laser swords. Immediate win.

Obviously you should watch them in the order they were made. A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, then Return of the Jedi.
While the prequals were only pretty okay, I would say watch them afterwards, because it gives more depth in the story. Mostly kinda.

Just watch them. :D

If you want to be original then watch them by way they were brought out. It's how us normal people did it.

I remember my bro and dad watching a new hope, empire strikes back, and return of the jedi all at once in a cinema when we lived in Germany. Good god I wish I was old enough at the time to have appreciated it... :(

Otherwise watch them in order if you think you'll understand more (why certain things happened, what sparked xyz, blahblahblah).

Conversely, you could if you so desire watch empire strikes back, revenge of the sith, a new hope, attack of the clones, return of the jedi, and then phantom menace...just to give you a puzzle to fathom.

Basically, yes. Watch them.

I don't know what prequels you saw, but apparently I watched the wrong ones.

The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were poor by any standards, but I thought Revenge of the Sith was pretty decent.

I say watch them in order. If you don't watch the prequels first there are moderate spoilers.

RotS was alright but "For reasons we can't explain, she has lost the will to live!" Really? Really? fuck off.

Anyway nobody will watch these because OH NO A LONG VIDEO!!! but I don't really care, I have to at least try to expose you to something as majestic as this. This guy made fantastic, witty and god damned insightful reviews of Episode I and II.

YouTube - Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Review (Part 1 of 7) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxKtZmQgxrI) (start here you can figure the rest out for yourself)

Can't wait for Episode III review.

The prequels sucked except for Revenge of the Sith, which was pretty good but not up to the standard of the original three films (the first two in particular; I could have done without so much of the Ewok puppet show in Jedi and to be honest, it was a pretty big hint of what was to come with Jar-Jar Binks in The Phantom Menace).

But yeah, I'd say to watch at least the original trilogy. They're probably not as great as some people say they are but they're still an integral part of film history and a lot of popular culture references won't make as much sense if you haven't seen them.

You definitely need to see these films Mel, if not the prequels then the originals for sho!

Watch the originals, then the prequels, so you can appreciate how good the originals were and how bad the prequels are.

Episodes V and VI also have the infinitely awesome Imperial March. The most epic bad guy music in movie history.

Nah, I've known about this for a while. It's unforgivable but it's hard to punish her properly being 3000 miles away from her.

But uhh... YES! YES YOU SHOULD WATCH THEM! WHY WOULD YOU EVEN NEED TO MAKE A THREAD ABOUT THIS?

You watch them in the order they came out in. IV, V, VI, I, II, III. The prequels aren't that great but it all about the storytelling man.

II is probably the worst of them all though. If you can sit through that then you can handle the other two with ease. I is actually not as bad as everyone says it is. And we'll cover everything that is wrong with III when you're ready my young Padawan.

Spike plays them quite a bit but if you don't catch them before you come out here you can bet your sweet ass you'll be sitting though them with me.

06-22-2010, 01:41 AM
There are so many Star Wars reference all over our culture, the movies are worth seeing for that reason alone. Definitely watch at least episodes 4, 5, and 6.

The prequels do suck, though, all of them. RotS was only slightly more tolerable because it had more action, but it still had the same craptacular writing and acting as the others. Psy pointed out just one of the completely unforgivable moments in that atrocity.

Fujiko
06-22-2010, 02:36 AM
WHY HAVEN'T YOU WATCHED THEM YET, MEL?! Watch them all, in the order they came out;

:vader: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
:vader: Episode V - The Empire Strikes back (1980)
:vader: Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi (1983)

And then:

:vader: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
:vader: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones (2002)
:vader: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith (2005)

Because they movies are unique, and funny, and filled with colorful lightsabers and robots and creatures and drama and action of other wooorlds! :shoot:

I realized I put Indian Jones, but the opportunity to mock that was too good for me to correct it.

EDIT: Unless he didn't like RotS. It was good.

No I love RotS, but there are some horrible parts in it. Like what Psy pointed out earlier, and the fact that Anakin's fall to the Dark Side seemed to take a few days rather than the years it should have taken. Granted there were some years that we missed between films but with the addition of the god awful Ahsoka Tano to the Clone Wars cartoon it looks like we'll have to wait for her "shenanigans" to end before we see him start turning. There's more but I'd rather not let all of EoFF see how much of a nerd I really am. :monster:
