View Full Version : Are You a Good Cook?

If so, which dish are you aboslutely fantastic at creating?

I'm a pretty good Asian cook, thanks to my mom. I can cook up at least thirty noodle dishes, and I'm not talking about minute noodles. Dishes with lots of vegetables, meat or even fish. Also, I'm a master at steaming stuff, and I use my steamer each and every single day.

I love cooking, and am often told I'm a good cook. Dishes I love doing would be curries, or a beef stew.

I would say yes. My wife says yes. My mom has piqued her interest when I mention about what I cook, ann my father has shown interest. I'd say I'm pretty damn good.
And I love it too.

I'm not a great cook though. I just happen to cook a lot.

omg asian food. ASSSSIANNnnnnss~

I can cook stuff! Ignoring things that can be boiled, fried, or bbq grilled [which would make the list too long and too noob], I can make

lobster [wait that's boiled]
shrimp [and this too wtf pg shut up]
creme brulee

I consider myself a good cook. I make an incredible pot roast, and amazing lemon parmesan pasta. But I looove to bake.

I consider myself good, as well as a good learner when it comes to cooking, but I'm better at grilling than at cooking.

Well I'm not that creative, I hate eating and only do it by necessity..it's just a bonus if it tastes nice at the same time. I probably could cook pretty well if I tried; of all the things I've done in my life I've never actually burnt anything. I never do anything which requires effort though really, pasta..beans on toast..that type of thing which you can't dramatically go wrong with unless you have a complete lack of sense of time.

:D I am confused.

I LOVE to cook. I always get honest criticism from my family members if something isn't right, which I do my best to improve the next time around. I have trouble creating my own dishes though, I'm not too creative just yet. I'm good at following recipes though! :jess:

Though I work at a deli, and can put food in the right order to make a delicious sub.

This is what I cooked for dinner:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/hannahgoesrawr/lemonhoneychicken.jpg

Green beans, herbed new potatoes, and lemon honey chicken. We're trying to eat healthier, so there was only a tablespoon of butter in this whole meal. Couldn't cut out that butter entirely. Veggies are organic and the chicken is free range/hormone free.

New potatoes just refer to the age of a potato. New ones are smaller and the skin is thinner so that you don't have to peel the skins off. New potatoes, red potatoes, bliss potatoes, they're all pretty much the same in my mind.

Don't you ever pay attention to my mobile uploads on facebook? I have several pictures of my amazing fajita's.

First one is of my food in the pan. Second one is of it on a plate with the tortilla shell split up into pieces cause I was making it for my little cousin and she couldn't eat it wrapped up. And the second is of my homemade cheese dip.

I realize they don't look that great, but they taste amazing, and most Mexican food looks like poop anyway.

It's like a regular cheese dip. Like the kind you can buy at the store. Only mine has sausage meat in it, along with the cheese and peppers.
It's sausage meat because I don't eat beef, so I have to make it good for me. :jess:

So far I have yet to hear anything but positive feedback about my cooking (except for people eating things that I make for myself, because I make my own food absurdly spicy).
However, the range of things I cook is narrow enough and the people I cook for few enough that I'm not sure whether I can claim to be a good cook~

Or as James May, Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear put it, Mexican food looks like refried sick.

I'm a pretty solid cook it has to be said. I just hate having to cook that being said I like eating well so that means I'll regulary cook fresh fish/meat/poultry and veg. I only really eat one proper meal a day so having something good is nice. I guess my main cooking skills lie in cooking mediteranian food because I like cooking pastas, fish, veg ect. However I also love cooking curries and the like too.

I guess I cook decent enough since it's how I pay my bills, but it usually involves salads (I work garde manger station at work), though I do make soups too.

As for cooking outside of work, my friends and family always enjoy my food. Baking is much more my forte though. I understand sweet flavours a lot better than savoury. That said, I am a lot harder on myself when I bake. It will usually turn out good. Example, I made banana chocolate marble bread the other day. It turned out delicious and moist but could have used a bit of salt, surprisingly the recipe did not call for salt (usually the recipes from this book are spot on).

I can't make scrambled eggs. For some reason I either overcook them or undercook them. Never right on the money. Probably at the wrong temperature. Otherwise I've never met a dish that's beaten me, but I don't tend to come up with my own stuff. I just don't have a lot of time. Even so I make this blueberry stuff you'd :bou::bou::bou::bou: your pants over.

I can throw a bunch of strange ingredients together but that does not make me a good cook.

I'm not a good cook. I could be if I decided to cook. But I don't cook because I am lazy. However I just whipped up some bacon and eggs for tea before and they were fuckin delicious if I do say so myself.

PGies' ezmode scrambled eggs:

Put a saucepan on medium to low medium heat
add oil
scramble eggs. When you are done the oil on the sauce pan will be read
pour mixture into sauce pan. Add salt+pepper/etc
take something that doesn't scratch. I use a wooden chopstick but you can use a plastic spatula
mix the eggs using said spatula until all of the eggs have cooked
done
