Help me out, EoFFers! My sister is getting married on Saturday, and I'm in charge of the music. Post recommendations, please.

(I've known about this for months, and I've waited until the last minute to compile a list.)

Second topic: What songs would like you to have played at your wedding? If you're married, what songs were played? Did they fit the moment right?

Also, there will be no Chicken Dance or Macarena. Don't even bother.

Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC04ZZploBE)

Go for the crowd pleasers, like pop/hit songs from the 80s and 90s, and the 70s too. People love music that makes them nostalgic. But that's only if you want them to get down and dance all night. Depends on what wedding it is.

The Trammps - Disco Inferno
The B52s - Loveshack
The Beatles - Twist and Shout

Aqua - Barbie Girl

Because I am totally wearing an awesome dress.

Wonderful Tonight is really cute. It's my parent's wedding song.

I really like this list of First Dance songs on OBB (http://offbeatbride.com/2010/03/unique-first-dance-songs), though I'm sure you saw them.

Of that list I would say...

* Definitely put the Mario Kart Love Song if your sister is a dorkling.
* Nancy Sinatra's "Sugar Town" (Alternatively: Zooey Deschanel's cover)
* The Cure's "Friday I'm in Love"
* The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" (honestly, I'd also add Love Song to the mix!)
* She & Him's "I Was Made For You" (This is really dancy and cute!)
* Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeroes - Home (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjFaenf1T-Y) (this song is fun and romantic, has a bit of a country twang to it. I could see people dancing and bopping to this)

PS: This song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMezwtB1oCU)would probably be my wedding song, or maybe Sugar Town. I love both songs.

"Today" by Randy Sparks. Find an instrumental version somewhere. Dunno where. John Denver has the best versions, but they're all live.

Not Canon in D.

It's a little long, but if you wanted to just cut it down somehow, Your Hand in Mine by Explosions in the Sky is romantic sounding, I think
Jim Croce - Long Time Ago
Avett Brothers - I And Love and You
Cascada - Every time we Touch
The Crystals - And Then He Kissed Me (this is adorable and sappy and perfect for weddings)
Erasure - Always (especially if either of them is a nerd ;D)

Oh man, I've already got this planned out because I want to DJ my own wedding and I want my wedding to not be a wedding but a dance party I trick people into attending. Also, this might happen in like two years or something, so I need to quickly make it as non-traditional and insane as possible.

The first song is going to be "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by the Darkness, because it is the height of romance.

Then:

"Nonpareil of Favor" by Of Montreal
"So Begins Our Alabee" by Of Montreal
"Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and everyone would have to dance to this and jump around, because this song clearly requires mass chaos.
"I Found a Reason" by Velvet Underground
"Fireworks" by the Tragically Hip
"The Girl" by City & Color
Some System of a Down to throw things off, which my best girl Robyn will assist me in dancing to, requiring "Violent Pornography" in there.
"I Will Buy You a New Life" by Everclear, or whatever that song is called
And many more!

Rachmaninoff - Variations on a Theme from Paganini - 18th Variation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_BArG3ollw)
This is seriously one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. My beloved teacher, before he died, used to exclaim that this was the greatest melody of the 20th century.

Shostakovich - Romance from the Gadfly (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDW4VJGKLAQ)

Bach-Gounod - Ave Maria (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suZ4IYVLZbU)Here is something stereotypical and pretty that everyone at the wedding will recognize.

Mozart - Symphony 41 in C major 'Jupiter' - Movement 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucd5Hbtg1ZQ)

Beethoven - Piano Concerto no. 5 - Movement 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr2AKxf8m14)

Beethoven - Piano Sonata no. 8 'Pathetique' - Movement 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVY8Okg0MUs)

Chopin - Raindrop Prelude (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_6APTb3RNQ)

Chopin - Nocturne in Eb MAjor Op 9 no. 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGRO05WcNDk)

Alexander Scriabin - Nocturne for the Left Hand Alone - Op 9 no. 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8FaPBEN8Uk)

Alexander Scriabin - Prelude in B major Op 16 no. 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZMADo-sK-c)

Claude Debussy - Claire de Lune (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKd0VII-l3A)

Debussy - Reverie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5QAKup4jxM)

Robert Schumann - Traumerei (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq7ncjhSqtk)

Franz Liszt - Consolation no. 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zS5LRRsNYZk)

J.S. Bach - Fugue in D major from the Well Tempered Clavier - Book I (http://www2.nau.edu/tas3/wtc/i05.html#movie)

J.S. Bach - Sinfonia to Cantata 29 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wksoe1iKz5c)Consider using this as the closing music to the wedding?

J.S. Bach - Dona Nobis Pacem from the Mass in B Minor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnrHhYSGzd4)One of the few pieces of music that can cause me to tear up. You could close with this instead. It's better music, but the Sinfonia is more festive.

Well, here you go! I hope you find this at the very least useful and, most hopefully, an enjoyable experience to sift through.

of Montreal, The Darkness, SoaD, Everclear and Velvet Underground? I want to go to Clo's wedding.

Ranztien is allowed to attend my wedding, and he can assist in the dance off. I hope he can BRING IT.

I remembered some more I want too:

"I'll Believe in Anything" by Wolf Parade
"Keep Sending Me Black Fireworks" by Of Montreal
"First Day of My Life" by Bright Eyes (it might be too sappy for me, might need to play some SoaD before and after it)
"Ask" by the Smiths
And some LCD Soundsystem to encourage yet more dancing.

I appreciate the recommendations so far! I'll be happy to post a link to the list of what I actually compile (of which is not to be laughed at).

Also, Mazzy Star - Fade Into You, Death Cab - I'll Follow You Into The Dark and Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life are musts at my wedding. And mass amounts of The White Stripes, Alkaline Trio and Red Hot Chili Peppers songs.

And I was starting to think you might be cool. :Oo:

Here is something else for weddings. YouTube - Russian Red Army Choir - Song of the Volga Boatmen (1965) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WD0WVL-HjE&feature=PlayList&p=7AE31C5E015EEC47&index=1) Maybe when you listen you will be cured of your horrible taste.

Now to be genuine, I seriously do recommend "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros for your sister's wedding! It's romantic and fun, and I saw it played live and it was amazing! I associate it with good times.
