Character Theme Tournament: FFVI Edition

Part of me hopes that the lukewarm reception of the first two installments has more to do with people's dislike of the previous titles music but now we're into FFVI which is strongly known for its wonderful collection of character themes. I really don't know how this tournament will go but I look forward to a heated bout this time around.

I feel we need more FFVI sprites... Anyway, those wondering about Sabin not having the theme that shares his name as his theme; this can be explained in a thread about the VI character themes done a few months ago. It was noted that Sabin much like Terra never actually has his theme played with him. Instead Coin Song is played when he's introduced and the game never actually plays the theme with his name on it while he's around in the story. So I figured it would be more fitting to have Coin Song instead.

Terra was another tricky one because her actual theme never plays in the story, its the world map theme for the WoB. The themes that usually play are either Awakening (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qCiZZVqhAQ&feature=related) or Metamorphosis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5TMnpb8ZSM&feature=related) which are both Leit Motifs of her actual theme. Still, I chose to go with the theme that shared her name cause it is the one where the other variations stem from. Still, feel free to use these as her theme if you prefer them.

Difficult to choose between a lot of them, after having reminded myself how most of them go, FFVI has an amazing soundtrack, so I went with Terra since that's the only one I could remember without reminding myself first :p Must be good if it's that memorable even years (decade?) since I last played that game :p

I really liked "Coin Song". :) The thing that captivated me the most was not the melancholy mood set by the guitar, but the harmony so unlike the one in "Edgar and Sabin's Theme".

As for which one I like most, I really cant decide. They all just fit each character so nicely. If I had to rank them in any way the only thing I would be able to decide is that I dont especially like "Tina" (or Terra's theme) as a character theme (it worked well as a world map theme), though I love all the other arrangements of it.

Since Ive already made an ass of myself I might as well finish the job, the names of the filenames for the songs are:

I didn't notice this theme competition business going on, apologies dear sir. I voted for Kefka's theme, because I think it captivated the insanity of him and also the kind of danger.

All of the tracks are gorgeous though.
