Duke Nukem Forever Lives? - PlayStation 3 News at IGN (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/111/1111629p1.html)

Yes, now the amusement can continue! Don't know if I even care about the game, but 13 years now has a chance to turn into 14, 15, 16, 17. Hopefully it will reach voting age before being released/cancelled.

Once Duke Nukem Forever is released the fun is over I say.

I agree. The actual game can't actually live up to all the fun we have been having at it's expense.

I'm pretty sure this is a required story every 3-4 years. Maybe the entire game is just a big social experiment to see how long people keep paying attention.

Duke Nukem Forever: The Game

An open-form, online game. Criticize game developers and advertisement companies as they fail to produce anything. Chat with friends, criticize some more!

Naturally, they have to add expansions like this every so often to keep things interesting, but overall, the idea is working out fairly nicely.

Funny part is that it is self perpetuating. Every further delay just adds to the game's legacy.

Man, even Chinese Democracy eventually got released. I'm kind of inclined to agree with WesLY.

well
Jon St. John will be at Magfest again next year. This time around I wont miss him. He's gotta be aware of the lunacy going on with it.

It’s going to suck.

It’s going to suck.

Yeah, but we've gotten so much fun out of it, that it won't matter.

You actually bothered to read the link?

Yeah, using Kotaku as source information... Could result in slight innaccuracies.

It's been given to Gearbox, who have incentive to actually get the game out the door, so I think it'll get released.

I think at this point, it'd be best to reset expectations. It's no longer the Duke of myth, carefully crafted by Broussard and his team at 3D Realms; it's a game by a whole new studio on a fast-track to release.

Not that I think that'll help ward off the scathing criticism it'll likely receive, but it's my two cents.

The feeling that it will eventually get released is actual kind of a downer.

Weren't there even screenshots and other details a couple of years ago? I'll believe it when it's on the shelves.

They gave it to an entirely different studio? Pffft, that's like cheating.

Unless it changes hands multiple times, then it is an epic new direction in the DN:F saga.

Yeah, well, Take Two decided to can the 3D Realms team and sue them for losses as a result of the delays. I figure they both want the issue out of the way and to ride on the reputation the game already has to recoup even more.

how hard can it be to make an FPS with a steroid-jack macho 80s action hero as the protagonist

It's no longer the Duke of myth, carefully crafted by Broussard and his team at 3D Realms

Is carefully crafted some secret code word for directionless and haphazardly slapping together things that looked cool in other games and movies and hoping to end up with a game out of it?

If so, then yeah, it's not that anymore. Will it be pretty mediocre and derivative just the same? Most likely, given Gearbox history in the industry.

I never stopped betting on Duke. This is why I'm bankrupt, my assets have all been taken, and I'm fleeing to Cambodia in a few weeks.

This pretty much. Something tells me the punchline to a 13-year-long joke can't be all that satisfying.

As a game it would have to be SMURFING LEGENDARY to live up to the "hype" (:jess:) it's received in it's long, turbulent span of development hell.

Yet, at the same time if it does indeed get released, I plan to be first in line to buy it. :p
