So I know how to block access to a webpage via the hosts file, but I'm more referring to blocking references to links

such as catching Google (http://www.google.com) as a link

Specifically I want to never see recommended pages again in facebook. You can block this by blocking the text http://www.facebook.com/ego_redirect.php* (google)

What I'm asking for would pick up this url and block both the text link and the img link. Is this possible? I would imagine it would be akin to some sort of adult blocker type of filter.

Have you tried adding that URL into Adblock (assuming you use it)? :p

there's probably a greasemonkey script for that.

There is! I managed to fix it using greasemonkey. Pity that means it's not a fix I can do in IE, but you know...work computers ><

Privoxy is a nice tool.

I must have dropped all of my geekery and replaced it with ignorance, b/c I never did figure out how Privoxy works.
