It's about time for me to clean up my computer and start fresh. It has too much junk. However I need some help picking out some good antivirus software!

AVG was doing great for me, but recently it's been causing me many many more problems than it solves. Had a crappy update I guess. My computer locks up for ten minutes at a time or even blue screens. I've been doing research on the more popular programs, but none of them really seem up to par. So no AVG, and I'm a little hesitant to get Avast.

Help me be saaaafe D:

Avast sucked for me. It may have been because someone else had set it up before I got the computer, but it gave me nothing but grief (and then it was an absolute mission to take it off when I finally got sick of it).

I've used AVG for most of the the time that I've owned a computer, so I can't really recommend anything else for you. I think Norton is supposed to be ok, except I've only ever used trials that came on computers I bought.

AVG was pretty much the only one I was happy with, but now it's decided to be dumb. This is so upsetting :(

do you really pick up that many viruses still? I mean, I don't use windows anymore, but when I was, I wasn't using an AV

As far as I know I'm pretty good about not picking up viruses. I just like to be safe because I frequently use torrents and sometimes people are like HAHAHAHA TAKE THAT THIS IS WHAT YOU GET FOR USING TORRENTS and suddenly there are skateboarding douchebags talking through everyone's speakers.

EDIT:

I'm hearing nice things about Microsoft Security Essentials.

Stop looking at porn. ;)

Anywayz, both AVG an Avast suck. The only other option I can think of for you is to get Norton.

I agree, I was talking to a techie about 2 months ago and he said for every virus a computer with norton comes in with a computer with AVG will have 4! The new norton isn't a fraction as recourse hungry as it's previous incarnations.

Screw anti-virus. Virus' will get on your comp regardless so get "Malware Bytes" and run that anytime you think you have a virus. It's a free scan and it deletes the bad stuff. It's all you need.

Neither did I, and even when I did the occasional scan it never picked up anything. Just a matter of knowing what you're downloading.
