In Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, Square Enix allowed Ventus to go shirtless in his awakening, but they forced Aqua to cover up her lower back. Do you see this as a double standard?

Aqua's outfit looks ridiculous with that much back exposed. Besides, there are more fangirls that wanna see shirtless Ven than there are fanboys who wanna see topoless Aqua.

I'm kind of confused as to why Ven is shirtless in his Awakening in general. :|

No, anyway, because they wouldn't have gotten through the T-rating with naked titties, and they wanted to sell games.
Direct your blame to the perversed society we live in that thinks sex is worse to show on TV than murder is.

And why does Donald never wear pants?

I actually would have rather had Aqua cover up her upper back, but that's just my personal opinion.
As for why Donald doesn't wear pants, well, that's because he's an anthropomorphic duck, not a human; human characters have to cover up, but anthropomorphic animals don't.

Then why does he wear a shirt?

Well, perhaps, even though nudity for animals is not considered shocking, perhaps he has a shirt on because again, he's anthropomorphic.

Then why does he wear a shirt?
He has a fabulous sense of style.

Its not really double standards, that's like saying, "Why do boys go topless when swimming but the girls don't?" Although I don't think the men would complain if women started swimming topless.
Well, perhaps, even though nudity for animals is not considered shocking, perhaps he has a shirt on because again, he's anthropomorphic.
So why does he wear a towel on the lower half of his body when he gets out of the shower.

I always figured he wore a pair of underpants concealed under his feathers, so the towel would be logical... I guess... I mean, he would feel naked, right?

And why does Donald never wear pants?
I imagine it's because of the pleasant breeze around the privates.
