View Full Version : Woaaah, I said that in 2006!?

So, I was looking through a bunch of old threads, and I decided I'd turn it back all the way to 2006. I found this quote by myself, when I was 13. I can hardly believe I said it!

... being a certain gender will decide how some people percieve you, thus changing how they treat you, and thus changing you. Once you've established who you are, there's no changing yourself in such a way which will make people percieve you so differently.

And now I disagree with myself, to a certain extent, but I'm just surprised I said it. :0 I'd love to have an argument with 13 year old me!

Anyway, looking back at posts you've made, do you find yourself being surprised at what you said? What are some choice quotes of the younger you?

My morals and personality were way different from my 15-18 year old self.

Everyone else was lame back then, which is why they didn't hate me. :p

Clo and I were talking about this a little while ago and I was showing her some old posts of mine from ~2000-2001 in a religion thread at FFWA (when I was 13 or 14). Her response (paraphrasing): "... you're like the same person!"

I used to type in much choppier sentences; I would randomly conclude statements with "Meh."; I would occasionally use obnoxious abbreviations like "ROFL" non-ironically; and I was somewhat less prone to lengthy posts. I also really really wished ghosts were real and occasionally called myself an "agnostic."

Otherwise, I am still a obsessively logical, stupid-people-hating, atheistic libertarian (before I even knew of the term "libertarian"). I have changed my conclusion on some individual topics (e.g., from being ambivalent on gay marriage when I was 12 to adamantly pro-gay rights), but overall I am largely the same. I was a very introspective kid. An argument with my 13-year-old self would be pretty boring as we would agree about most things, and any relatively minor beliefs I changed I could easily just convince myself that I was wrong about.

I wasn't really active much when I was seventeen, but I probably haven't changed much.

I don't dare go back and read my posts for fear that I'm wrong and that I was actually really annoying.

I was an angry person. I don't know why. I was very argumentative too! I look back just from like a year or so ago and don't understand why I was so angry and mean! Like it boggles my mind really. Then again I have a horrible memory and even splotchy parts due to urm sad blah blah crap I don't wanna go into.

Within the past like 10ish months I've changed a lot. Just, a lot. So when I look back it's just so odd to me on how I use to act or even think. Even in like mafia, when i look back at those threads.

When I was thirteen I was religious and politically moderate. Now I'm atheist and only inches away from being anarchist. An argument with my thirteen-year-old self would be... interesting, to say the least.

Let's see... The oldest posts archived here are from 2001, when I was 18.

Do you know what day you're planning on announcing the results, Proto? Not that I plan on being present, I just thought it a wise question to ask.

I started listening to it a few days ago but I got distracted and I think it's best if I don't listen again. Listening to Bley's makes me want to cry.

Ahahaha:
Cid: Are you and BJ still together?
Me: Of course I'm still with him, BTW. You think I'm crazy enough not to be?? We're gonna get married after college and make babies all day.

I was still annoyed with people who talked about "the glory days of EoFF".

Honestly, the only difference I see between now and then is that I didn't know the difference between its and it's.

My 14-year-old self would have a few stern words for my older self, but they would soon be forgotten as my 13-year-old self begins playing a Slipknot CD and yelling about how awesome they are; maybe even dropping in a few jokes about Gwar and Chun Li, just for the irony. :jokey:

well if this is about our 13 year old selves, I was too busy being obsessed with Good Charlotte and wearing braces and experiencing horrible acne to care about forums yet. But I was already using the internets for aim by then.

Oh sweet Jesus why did I go looking. :eep:

I realized too late that I hate myself back then and would probably kick my own ass should I ever have the opportunity to meet 16 year old me.

I was kind of a dick newb. I just saw a post where rubah reprimanded me and I have the strong urge to leave her a VM saying sorry. Actually, I want to do that to everyone I've ever associated with. No wonder I went so long without having many friends here. :p

What I remember from memory is that I was really obsessed with using roman numerals instead of actual numbers, using 13 periods or exclamation marks ('cause having a thing is cool :monster:), and being a total d-bag when posting.

I remember in one of the early "Does .999... = 1" threads you were right and made correct arguments, but then made another thread sometime later where you were entirely wrong on the same issue, despite having been correct in the previous year or so. You were pretty retarded.

The appropriate tense for the last sentence is debatable.

I only joined here two years ago, and my two year old posts are still exactly the same as my current posts.

So I thought about checking out the other forums I've been on a lot longer (a Mana one, a Zelda one and a certain musician one I've been on for more than a decade) . . . My posts back in 2006 were all specific to the site. I never ever ever posted in general threads back then. If I was on a Zelda site, all I wanted to post about was Zelda.

Now I couldn't really be bothered. So that's the difference, I guess.

I have not really changed, except my posts are longer. What I was laughing at most is how much people around me have changed. Though I have bumped up Emperor Mateus as one of my fave FF villains when in the past I seemed to not care for him, I also seemed to post in EoEO more back then.

Hell my second post was me saying I don't like FFX. ;)

I can't remember if I was here in 2006 or not. :p

Looking back on any of my posts older than a year or two ago really makes me cringe though. I was like, a completely different person back then, and I don't really like that person. That goes not just for on EoFF but any other site I posted anything on really. The last couple years has had great changes on my worldview and how I interact with my peers. Back in high school and college I was incredibly geeky too. Like, too geeky.

I think it's part of the reason I'm so reluctant to post anything online anymore.
