I had my first Dominican Cake yesterday. It was the most delicious slice of cake I ever had. Sadly, I had to give half of it away, because this weekend has been a fat fest between pizza for the birthdays this weekend and accidentally making the biggest bowl of pasta ever when I was cooking dinner for my brother and I, and I'm really trying to cut back since I've been on a roll with the weight loss (I just dropped a pants size!) for the most part this month and I want to keep it up. But oh my god.

For those who haven't had it before, Dominican Cake is a staple of the DR. It's made with many different types of milk creams, so it's really soft and moist and... well... fattening. XD It tastes a bit like a moist milky corn muffin on the inside. The outside can have any type of topping, but this one in particular had these delicious sugar flowers and orange decorations. Mmmmmm.

I've committed myself to buying Dominican Cake for my 21st birthday. I was going to buy red velvet, but I guess it's been knocked out of the picture.

Discuss: Dominican Cake, or any other types of cakes you like!

I googled it and the look of it sort of reminds me of Mexican cake, which I didn't like at all since it seemed like it was soggy. It doesn't taste anything like that does it?

You had the most delicious cake of your life and you gave half of it away for the of weight loss? Oh Jessicle, where are your priorities :kaocry:

I love all kinds of cake! They just need to not be completely overloaded with sugar. I like them sweet, but there's a limit and it's not always respected xD But in the interest of ~represent~, I have to promote awareness of smörgåstårta, literally sandwich cake, the Swedish delicacy :D And delicious it is!

There are no words in this world that can express how much I love cake. All kinds of cake. I could eat cake all day. ALL day. Mmmmm.

My mother makes the best banana cake in the world, and I allow myself to indulge it in...luckily, she doesn't make it too often. :D

These are called Puto, and are steamed rice cakes. They're really low on fat, and they're little slices of Heaven:

Rantzien gave you fair warning when he said it was a sandwich cake.

This is not the time to care for cakes, guys; pumpkin pie is what the season is now about.

Oh my god, I make a meeeean pumpkin pie. I love making them. I can't wait to make one as soon as the weather gets a little cooler.

Also:

Red Velvet is amazing, but this kind of knocked it out. Sorry!

What kind of cake is that! There are limes and shrimp and eggs!

Homemade cheesecake with graham cracker crust and a few chopped strawberries is the absolute best kind of cake.

Smörgåstårta ("sandwich cake") is a Swedish dish that is also popular in Finland and Estonia. Similar to a sandwich, it has such a large amount of filling that it more resembles a cake.

The smörgåstårta is normally made up of several layers of white bread with creamy fillings in between. The fillings and toppings vary, but egg and mayonnaise are often the base, additional filling may vary greatly but often includes one or more of the following: liver paté, olives, shrimp, ham, various cold cuts, caviar, cheese and smoked salmon.

Smörgåstårta is served cold and sliced like a dessert cake.Smörgåstårta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sm%C3%B6rg%C3%A5st%C3%A5rta)

Honestly, it sounds really good, if you ignore the white bread. What are we, Wonder Bread kids?

In essence it's pretty much a gigantic delicious sandwich with the edges cut off and stuff. You don't know what you're missing!
