Spoilers woo!!

What do you think?
Did Vivi "stop" before the final play in Alexandria? Is he still alive?

I just don't want to be sad anymore! :(

I think so. Sorry :(

Yeah he is, it's largely accepted now I think :( - gives his words at the end of the game and the ending in general an extra poignancy.

Everyone always says this. Though its been a long time since I beat the game and I can't play through it again or watch the ending on youtube or anything. But I recall Vivi walking to the play with his kids running past him and out in front of him. Everyone acts like he was never even at the play. Was one of his kids just taller than the others? I find it hard to believe my memory is that far off track. Or is his death supposed to happen afterward?

Those are all Vivi's children at the end of the game, it's never mentioned that any of them are actually Vivi (and every other character appears in the ending), which is why it's thought Vivi died between Zidane's disappearance and everyone reuniting in Alexandria months later, with the letter which runs through the ending his final words.

I thought that the way they make his last line from the letter go very slowly made it obvious he had stopped.

I know those were his "children". What I'm saying is I seem to recall also seeing him with them. Unless one of them is larger than the rest or something. I never had any impression that Vivi had died until it started coming up on this forum. Though the game does go into a lot of detail that their time limit is random and his had already exceeded expectation, so it makes sense if he's really not in the ending. I just recall actually seeing him. I'll have to leech a better internet connection sometime and watch the ending on youtube or something

I do believe he stopped. Among his last words were "my memories will be a part of the sky" or something like that. Now, why would he say that if he didn't stop, right?

But they were all the same size, I mean, Vivi is pretty small anyways. I reckon they were like adopted children who had no parents like Vivi (he was found by that Qu dude and became his grandson). He's probably dead by this point cos the Black Mages had short lifespans. But seeing as he was 'made' by natural means as opposed to the manufactured Black Mages, it's anybodies guess.

They're not his "kids", because how in the world would those things breed? And if they are young Vivi-like mages, then where did they come from? Who is still making these things?

Made by natural means? what do you mean by that?

Vivi was the first black mage that Kuja created.

To Clo They are Vivi's children in the way that he created them. Also by this rule Kuja is his father also. Vivi probably created these on his death because he wanted to leave a mark on the world as for who is still making them, there is no evidence that more were created than in the ending and it may be impossible. The Iifa Tree was the source of the mist and with it gone all the mist will eventually rise into the atmosphere and never return.

Your welcome. It was introduced in a cutscene at Quan's Dwelling that Vivi had fell off the cargo ship. I'm guessing Kuja was shipping him to Alexandria so Brahne can get a look at the prototype.

Something I would like to know though is Garnet's adoptive father and more from about her real parents.

Yeah, I remember how Quan found him but that's about it.

Garnet's parents wrote on that mural in Madain Sari which had her real name written on it. Not much is said about them which is disappointing as I was always really intrigued.

Edit: But we'll leave this subject for another thread.

This thread raises a question. If Vivi knew he was going to stop why would he make more of himself? They're probably going to stop just as quickly as he did. He's just perpetuating a vicious circle. What a dumb kid, I'm angry now. :mad2:

You have a point... BUT! if you were going to die, say, a day after being created would you be like "Let there be others like me so that they may be just as pointless!"?

It kind of defeats the whole point of Vivi stopping if there are a bunch of clones running around with just as short a lifespan. I know it's a metaphor about life and death or some junk but it's supposed to be emotional, dammit! How can I be sad now, Pontus!? :nonono:

Rantz
01-20-2011, 12:24 PM
Well, look at it this way. If he creates 10 clones and they each live a month, each of those has time to experience life, save the world and create 10 clones of their own, just like their father. :) The Vivi tribe would grow exponentially and each generation could save the world with 10 times the power of the last generation, and thus effectively ensure Vivi's immortality. It's genius!

I just noticed that part in your post. In the game Mr. 288 states that he assumes (maybe not exact words) that black mages stop roughly a year after production. Kuja told us the prototype will last a little longer though. In Quan's Dwelling. Quan marks Vivi as being 9. Either Vivi was really 9 years old before he died or Quan assumed that he looked 9 years old and wrote it as such.

I don't think I can believe that he's 9, that would mean that Kuja was plotting Gaia's assimilation for 9 years and that Brahne was evil/ becoming evil 9 years before the game's plot began.

I agree with you. I think that it seems almost cruel to bring a sentient lifeform into existence with such a short lifespan. There is hardly time for a being to experience the world and create memories worth cherishing in a little under a year. I got the impression that the Black Mages were unnatural creations and it seems odd to me that they would keep producing more or reproducing somehow after they have served their purpose. Is this supposed to be a joyful thing?

Wait, what, is this even questionable? Vivi is proof that a short lifespan doesn't mean a life is not meaningful. Even though he was created, he had fun, adventure, emotions, friends etc. Pretty much the same as any race in the game, so I don't see why he shouldn't want to bring more life to the planet (like every other race).

VERY WRONG.

we know vivi was at least 6 months old, whereas the black mages made after him only lasted about a month or two. Or less.

The other black mages life span were about year as stated by Mr.288. I think Vivi might've been a few years older than that from in game dialogue like when when Vivi had said to one of the Genomes that he looks about as old as him or Eiko and in Quan's Dwelling I think on the wall Quan wrote Vivi 9 years old, still too small to eat. I might have to go and check that last one though as I'm not sure about that and it's been a while.
