Games with soundtracks that are too good for them.

What are some games you can think of that had great soundtracks, while the games themselves were not quite great?

For me, Phantasy Star Online Episode 3 comes to mind. Here are a few examples of songs I like from that game:

Phantasy Star Universe's soundtrack is just gorgeous. Especially some of the AOTI extras.

This is probably one of my favorite video game themes of all time. Personally I enjoyed this game, but most people don't like it because it's sooo sooooo repetitive. And the dialogue is pretty silly.


Star Ocean: Til' The End of Time's soundtrack ranged from "yeeeaaah gonna fight some dudes" to "omg make it stop please."

I thought Xenosaga Episode II had the best soundtrack out of the three games, yet was the worst out of the three.

Yuki Kaijura is an out of this world composer.

I'm currently replaying MGS2 for the first time in about 6/7 years and I'm amazed how good it's soundtrack is. Though I like this game a lot more this time around a lot of people think it's the worst MGS, hence the mention in this thread.

Its Phantasy Star Universe for me as well, great sound track, the opening theme was my ringtone for a while. I liked the story, but the game was a bit annoying...very repetitive and not very hard.

Yeah, pretty much. The game did a horrible job properly utilizing what she did give them too.

Tales of Legendia also comes to mind for me.
