View Full Version : Don't know what you're talking about, Internet Explorer is great!

I mean I turn on my brand new computer, connect it to the internet and the first thing I do is open Internet explorer. ANd from there I was able to go to Mozilla and Download Firefox.

Had Internet Explorer not been there for me, I'd be completely Firefox-less right now.

Thank you Internet Explorer.

ubuntu is everywhere now.

IE is ugly. I don't remember how it went as far as functionality, but it's ugly.

ubuntu is everywhere now.

This is because it is clearly superior. As evinced by the fact that it cannot run Internet Explorer.

Camino's actually a pretty decent browser, too.

Haven't you heard? Ubuntu has ceased to be hip and trendy on the internet. They're letting just anybody use it these days.

Hip and trendy went out years ago, iirc.

If I was being forced to use Linux, I'd go with Ubuntu. I like being able to use my computer and install stuff without a fight though. Windows is lazy friendly.

I'm at work using IE6 right now actually. It's so much faster than Firefox, which I use at home. I'm not kidding, it really is. :p

You maybe could have FTP'd the Mozilla site with windows explorer. Maybe

Citizen Bleys

With Linux, you don't need a browser to download a different browser. You can do it from the command-line with wget.

Raistlin

Yeah, Windows sucks too, but I'm far too lazy for Linux. Even Unne told me that I was probably better off with Windows.

However, IE is terrible.

I'm at work using IE6 right now actually.

Does your work hate you?

IE9 is actually somewhat halfway decent (doesn't mean I use it, of course), unlike that digital turd called IE6. It's mind-boggling how a large share of businesses still haven't upgraded their software into the 21st century. This is what happens when BA courses don't teach anything IT-related (or anything realworld-related for that matter) beyond basic Word and Excel skills.

Yes. They refuse to allow any other browser on their systems other than IE6 because they are convinced that you are more likely to get viruses via anything newer than IE6.

How this company has survived, I'll never know.

This is a misrepresentation IE criticism. They function similarly at the basic, obvious level, sure. But when it comes to security, coding, and customization, Firefox is ahead of IE (though admittedly not as far now as it used to be).

My employer also forces IE6 on us, but that is changing soon. I think somebody finally pointed out that the help menu is written in Phoenecian.

I said "pretty decent" not "bloody awesome."

It's better than IE6, at any rate--which is one thing it has in common with botulism.

Oh, how slain I am by your ad hominem that cleverly avoids responding to any actual argument where you are completely, demonstrably wrong. You have truly shown me. Have you thought about being a TV political pundit?

Unfortunately as you're not American you won't feel the full weight of a Bill O'Reilly or Keith Olbermann reference, and I don't know any UK equivalents. Just pretend I equated you with some well-known UK socialist nutjob. Is that cool?

Windows ME is the bane of my existance, it is a virus upon humanity. It is the scum of the earh and I want it to die!

Not only can I not down grade it to Windows 98, I can't upgrade it to Windows XP either because it blocks it!!!

Then of course I thought, I know, Linux is the cure, and it all seemed to be going well and then ME blocked the install as an 'Invalid procedure'

IE's new one might bring it back on the throne, but currently Chrome continues to rise stealing it's customers, and Firefox maintains it's same numbers with no drop or climb. But unless something changes Chrome will climb beyond Firefox in a year or two, and IE will crumble below 10% with the rest of them.

See, the key word that you used there was IE8.

The whole point of the browser wars was that IE6 was a piece of :bou::bou::bou::bou: and had been the same piece of :bou::bou::bou::bou: for the last four years. Noticed how we're approaching IE9 now? Instead of one browser revision in five years, there's been three. That was the point of the whole endeavor. Forcing innovation where there had been stagnation.

The world has only benefited!

(You have so much to choose from now; IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera, and those are just the major names!
Life is better now, whether you admit it or not :), and it's thanks to the rabid fanboys that you've disparaged so~)

they do now that even Grandma Farmville is considering buying a Macbook

which also means in the near future I will have to find some new brand or laptop model to be hip with. When I bought my MBP I was like one in a select few and now they keep popping up everywhere I look. It's like the smurfing Blackberry all over again. Why couldn't the masses just stay dumb and stick to the cheap white model instead of having to go Pro >:/

I, for one, am actively encouraging Grandma Farmvilles to buy MacBooks on a regular basis.

If Gates and Ballmer don't like it, they can bloody well fix their :bou::bou::bou::bou:.

Little known fact, Internet Explorer has the ability to, if you play your cards right, morph into a very interesting multi-cellular organism.
What you have to do, is first, go file > save page as. Once you have saved the page, edit it with any form of editing software you have, and change the text in the address bar to "MORPH MY MIGHTY MORPHIN' IE"
Then save it. Sit back and gaze in astonishment at your creation morphing all over the place. Don't thank me, your satisfaction is my reward.
