xii riddles, where'd he go?

The guy who had the riddle going in the last xii riddles thread hasnt posted in there since last March, so lets make a new one.

Let's start with an extremely easy one:

this is a wooded town, not for man
this is a quiet walk, ponder for a span
many leave but none come back, for they have lost the sound,
for some strange reason our numbers grow without a man around

I'm guessing the furry fellow is montblanc who swore to kill the seer and yaizmat. He has a master who is.... unnamed and was killed by yaizmat... how close am I
