Tifa's father hates Cloud because Cloud forced Tifa to go to the mountains, and then allowed her to fall. However, we the players, know better; Tifa and some friends decided to go to the mountins, because Tifa wanted to know what had happened to her mother (she died obviously - did her father not explain it propperly thinking she was "too young" or something? They never say...). Tifa moves further and further, towards the mountain, and one by one, her friends chicken out, but Cloud, who of course wasn't even "part of the group" (he was just passing) sees Tifa, and follows her - presumably to try and stop her from going to far. The game doesn't show it (because Cloud doesn't remember it), but Tifa falls, and Cloud also falls trying to save her or something. Her father arrives, and assumes Cloud is to blame - Tifa doesn't say anything because she's in a coma (Cloud has minor injuries).

However, what about when she woke up? Could she have, you know? Said something along the lines of "Oh by the way dad, that time at the mountains was my idea - Cloud was just there, he didn't force me to go, I didn't even know he'd be there." He obviously still blames Cloud because he is hostile towards him when he comes back in the 5 Years Ago scene. Why didn't she say something?!

I guess she'd rather have the weird geeky stalker kid face her daddy's anger than do so herself

First, I'm pretty sure Tifa knew from the start that her mother had died. In despair over the loss, she just decided to do something rash while painting a picture in her mind that she'd be able to meet her mother again. (I don't think it was in an intentionally suicidal way--but intense sadness can make you do some very illogical or dangerous things.)

Anyway, with a fall like that and such an injury that caused a coma, it's likely Tifa doesn't remember the moments leading up to her fall. In fact, the entire ordeal ends up being kind of a blur to her - "So that was it...... Sorry, Cloud. If I had only remembered more clearly
what happened, I could have done something sooner......" With so many traumatizing things going on for her at once, it's a definite possibility to forget to ever mention something like that.

Also, Tifa may have not even known about Cloud's lecture from her father anyway. She was unconscious at the time, and Cloud probably would have been too shy/embarrassed to bring it up to her or anyone in the future.

I always figured that when the other kids chickened out, they went and got her dad, and helped to blame Cloud so that they wouldn't get in trouble themselves, and anything Tifa did to correct that was brushed off by her dad as her being too nice to the spikey-haired kid.

How old were they? Do you see many kids between five and ten years old (guessing here) taking the blame when someone else already has it?

Agreed. Tifa didn't want to take the blame (if she knew/remembered anything anyway).

When I was around that age group, I recall there being some kids of that age who would, and some who wouldn't - just depends on the kids themselves really.

Could it be that Tifa had very little memory of the events surrounding her coma? I heard that memory can be tricky when the body deals with traumatic experiences like car accidents or falling off a cliff.

I always thought Tifa was a bitch anyway, she didn't forget a thing. Ever since you first see her in-game and she tries to guilt trip Cloud with some bull:bou::bou::bou::bou: 'promise' he made when he was a kid, I knew she was bad news.

What I understood, watching that scene,is that Tifa didn't notice Cloud following her.She was a few steps ahead from the other kids, they were just following her before they gave up and she continued...she didn't even notice that she was alone with only Cloud quietly following her. I guess she was quite desperate about her mother's death.

Bloody women are more trouble than they're worth. I remember when my girlfriend suggested we go for a picnic on Mount Nibel. I spent twenty minutes defending us both from a Materia Keeper. What did I find when I got back? She'd eaten all the mini cocktail sausages!

line_genrou has a good point. It's also possible Tifa doesn't remember. Headknock a la Rachael from FFVI style.

That being said, this thread has passed its use by date :)
