Toy Story is gonna win Best Animated for sure.

I hope Inception wins something at least like Best Original Score.

True Grit probably had the Best Cinematography imo. Really beautiful shots.

Best Director should go to David Fincher for his awesome style in Social Network.

Best Picture could be any of them. They're all pretty good.

Best Picture is either going to be The Social Network or The King's Speech. What are you even thinking? *bish slaps you with love*

Freya
02-18-2011, 04:59 AM
Colin Firth
'The King's Speech'

James Franco

'127 Hours'
Best Supporting Actress

I like how James Franco is just in there. Bunny is right, You can't be better than James Franco. James Franco is so awesome James Franco doesn't need to be in a movie to get best actor.

Bunny

James Franco is in 127 Hours.. which is right below his name.

Weirdo.

The winners of the main categories will probably be the following based on all the other awards so far (though Fincher might win Best Director over Hooper):

The King's Speech
Tom Hooper
Colin Firth
Natalie Portman
Christian Bale
Melissa Leo

Screenplay wins for The King's Speech and The Social Network.
Best Animated Film to be The Illusionist (just kidding)

The only winners are going to be (well the categories that matter anyway)
The King's Speech
The Social Network
127 Hours

which is unfortunate.

What is 127 Hours going to win in the major categories?

Shiny

Best Picture
'The Social Network'
(Despite the Queen being sick this is primarily American people voting & how many people have actually seen The King's Speech...)

Best Director
David Fincher
'The Social Network'
(A given)

Best Actress
Natalie Portman
'Black Swan'
(Another given)

Best Actor
Colin Firth
'The King's Speech'
(Also obvious)

Best Supporting Actress
Melissa Leo
'The Fighter'
(She's amazing it's about time)

Best Supporting Actor
Christian Bale
'The Fighter'
(People are saying Geoffrey Rush for this, but nah gonna stick w/ Bale)

Best Animated Feature Film
'Toy Story 3'
(Because who cares about the other two)

Best Foreign Language Film
'Biutiful'
Mexico
(I dunno it's Mexican & Javier Bardem)

Best Original Screenplay
Christopher Nolan
'Inception'
(If Nolan doesn't win for this I swurt to gurt)

Best Adapted Screenplay
Aaron Sorkin
'The Social Network'
(Out of the list of noms for this award, this is the one I want to win the least; 127 hours could be a dark horse for this since Social Network is a shoe in for other awards)

Best Documentary Feature
'Exit Through the Gift Shop'
(The only one that stands out to me. Everyone thought Food, Inc. was going to win last year, but films that usually win in this category are ones that introduce new topic not rehash things that have already been brought up like in films like Inside Job and Gasland)

Best Original Song
'If I Rise' from '127 Hours'
Music by A.R. Rahman Lyric by Dido and Rollo Armstrong
(I strongly dislike Newman's cheesy songs, so I'm hoping another former academy award winner, A.R. Rahman takes the gold here)

Best Original Score
'The Social Network'
Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
(I like them both a lot...if they don't win it will be a huge upset, but I think they have it in the bag for now)

Best Film Editing
'The Social Network'
Angus Wall & Kirk Baxter
(Although I disliked the Social Network the well-paced editing was one of the few things I could appreciate about the film)

Best Visual Effects
'Inception'
Paul Franklin, Chris Corbould, Andrew Lockley & Peter Bebb
(Traditional visual effects versus 3D effects vs. completely revolutionary special fx...uh yeah obviously the later)

Best Cinematography
'True Grit'
Roger Deakins
(Could easily go to Deakins or Libatique because wow really great shots, but Deakins has been looked over a lot this could be his time)

Best Sound Mixing
'Inception'
Lora Hirschberg, Gary A. Rizzo & Ed Novick
(I just remember the sound be really "boombastic")

Best Sound Editing
'Tron: Legacy'
Gwendolyn Yates Whittle & Addison Teague
(This is an award they give to movies that they don't really like but still wanna give something to because they feel bad for it i.e. Transformers last year...I'm just gonna guess Tron even though I haven't seen it)

Best Costume Design
'Alice in Wonderland'
Colleen Atwood
(They had very elaborate costumes so I assume there will take in to account the effort put in rather than just the aesthetic which many voters may not like)

Best Art Direction
'Alice in Wonderland'
Production Design: Robert Stromberg; Set Decoration: Karen O'Hara
(It was magical)

Best Makeup
'The Wolfman'
Rick Baker & Dave Elsey
(The only stand-out in this group)

Best Short Film (Live Action)
'God of Love' - Luke Matheny
(For no particular reason...it seems professional at least)

Best Documentary (Short Subject)
'Strangers No More'
(It's about diversity and most Americans like that. Killing in the Name could be a dark horse but it's just forcing down Americans throats the same things they've been hearing for the past decade now)

Best Short Film (Animated)
'Day & Night' - Teddy Newton
(The best and most reviewed on IMDb)

How many American people have seen The King's Speech? Well considering it's made over $100 million in the USA and is still going strong, I'd say quite a few. And its getting most of the big awards from people who actually vote for the Oscars (especially actors, it won the SAG award).

And Sorkin's award will be probably the most deserved of the night.

I sincerely hope that "How to Train Your Dragon" bests Toy Story 3. The latter was good, but not exceptional, and "How to..." is just a better movie. :D

The Social Network is going to win Best Picture simply because I don't want it to.

Toy Story 3 deserves Best Animated Feature though. I hope it wins. I never saw How to Train Your Dragon because all the character including the dragons looked hideous to me. :D

Ouch!

Toy Story 3 is the most highly reviewed film of the year, bar none.

If it doesn't win Best Animated Feature, something is wrong.

It's obviously going to win. How To Train Your Dragon is meant to be very good though, I'd like to see it at some point.

I sincerely hope that "How to Train Your Dragon" bests Toy Story 3. The latter was good, but not exceptional, and "How to..." is just a better movie. :D

How To Train Your Dragon was awesome, but I think it was a much easier film to do than Toy Story 3. One of the most impressive things about Toy Story 3 was just how perfectly this final film finished the story that began 2 films and 15 years ago.

It's one thing to make a funny, touching, adventurous film. It's another thing to do all those things AND be one of the most cohesive, poignant and pitch-perfect ending to a movie series, ever. Toy Story and Toy Story 2 = great animated movies. But Toy Story + Toy Story 2 + Toy Story 3 combined makes for one of the best film trilogies of all time. Lord of the Rings is still my favorite trilogy, but it had it's bad total "wtf?" moments whereas the Toy Story trilogy has been consistently amazing from start to finish. How many film series can say that?

Great nominees. I think The Social Network is slightly overatted, and do truly think Black Swan will be known as one of the great Psychological Horror Films in due time. I think it was that good.

Let me start by saying I have never watched the Oscars ever. This is the only year that I've actually watched a few recap clips online and then I just look at IMdb for the winners. So, my opinion will be a bit different after actually seeing it. So, it looked okay, and I don't have very much complaints about what got chosen. I've only have three huge upsets and they were:

Randy Newman winning Best Original Score though not surprising, still disappointing.
Nolan not winning for Best Original Screenplay. You've gotta be kidding me....I don't even. Oscars always snubbing Nolan.
David Fincher getting snubbed. He's made Fight Club, Panic Room, Se7ven. Tom Hooper has made The King's Speech and...I have no idea what else. Plus, he's British. And to be frank, most British films suck. Let's be honest.

Biggest yays:
James Franco in a dress. I dunno why.
Alec Baldwin. Nuff said.
Bale, Portman, and Leo winning their much deserved awards. I haven't seen the King's Speech because it looks like a boring old people film (perfect for an Oscar win) so I don't give a smurf about Firth. He was good in A Single Man though which was also kinda boring.

Biggest lol:
Melissa's Leo's speech.
James Franco.

Biggest surprise:
Tom Hooper winning Best Director over Fincher. Even though best director and best film often coincide at the Oscars as it did last year, this is still a huge shock. I can't remember the last time Americans liked a British film so much until now.

Either James Franco was really tired...

or really high hahaha.

But if I had to wear a pretty pink dress and a wig, I'd get high too. So I salute you James Franco.

Would have preferred The Social Network or Black Swan to win but The King's Speech is a very good film so no real complaints. And Trent Reznor winning an Oscar has to be worth some plus points.

I only guessed the last three, but I got them all right. Go me.

The Oscars are so boring.
