I was just thinking about FF13-2 the other day, and the thought occurred to me. Wouldn't the post FF13 world be an almost perfect setting for an MMO? You have a vast unexplored world, and a massive unsettled population with no central authority.

With FF14 coming hot on it's heels it makes me wonder if they wouldn't have been better off running with FF13's world.

What little we've seen of Agito looks like an even better set up if you ask me!

Ouch!

Final Fantasy XIII's world lacks a number of things that would make it effective as an MMORPG. The most notable thing that would probably drive people crazy (especially in that if it's set in Pulse, it'll be leaning more towards fantasy than science fiction) is that it lacks multiple different sentient races.

They could always just write them in. It seems to be SE's fave thing to do.

Pulse would make an interesting MMO, the Cieth stones already have the usually MMO quests set-up and if Fal'Cie are to be used for character creation, then you have the element to drive the plot.

The only real issue will be having to explain the multiple new paradigm roles and class based equipment structures but then again, it's not like the Sphere Grids and Dress Spheres in FFX and X-2 matched up exactly either with any real explanation as to why their systems are different.

A lot of the side quests that I see video games come up with now seem like they could be easily adapted into a massively multiplayer online role-playing game.

I felt like a lot of the side quests in Final Fantasy XIII were designed particularly to model online games, actually. I am not that pleased with side quests in video games today. I like to see much less repetition in side quests.

Good point about Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. There were no references to the differences between the Sphere Grid and the Dressphere system. I thought it was particularly annoying because Yuna was able to cast White Magic as a part of the story of Final Fantasy X, but she lost all of her innate magical ability when she lost the ability to summon? I thought it would have been interesting if the three girls had default abilities that you could not take away from them.
