Did you try to level up various weapons for each of the characters or just stick with one weapon type throughout? There doesn't seem to be any inherent reason to use multiple weapon types other than variety, so I just picked one weapon for each character and stuck with it.

What about for magic? When I first played this game, I tried really hard to level up Maria's magic and get a Fire16, Blizzard16, and Thunder16, but it was slow going. I eventually gave up.

Funny that I really hated that aspect of the battle system yet something similar is how you level up weapons and magic skills in FFXI, a game I love. Of course, that game actually has levels and also involves the job system so that makes it a whole lot better!

I tried being a Jack but it was too fucking hard. I stuck with the same weapons and just game Maria most of the magic. The other two I gave basic spells and only used them as necessary.

A team of specialist is the way to go. Trying to max out all weapons and stats and make everyone good with all the good stuff is terribly tedious. Better to just go in with a team in mind. Besides, it's impossible to get optimal proficiency from all the weapons and magic working together at once. Magic is hindered by the type of weapons and armor you use so trying to build a group warriors with magic is not going to give great mages.

Agreed. -____-
This game just frustrated me because of the level up system, period.

If you want to get to lvl 16 in anything specialty or not, it's going to be tedious as crap, and utterly pointless since you don't need to in order to massacre anything in the game. Getting things to level 8 is relatively easy, and allows you to use it effectively up to the end of the game. 3 or more lvl 8 weapon skills, lvl 8 toad, lvl 8 elemental spells, lvl 8 beserk/haste/aura, level 8 flare and you are all set.
