Just put your favorite band, singer, rapper, song, genre, and where they are from and go ahead and put a youtube video or some lyrics if you'd like.
Mine would be The Sorrow from Austria
They're Metalcore/Melodeath
Favorite song is Suffering Quotes
YouTube - The Sorrow Suffering Quotes lyrics HD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOSEJZedJSU)
At the moment I'm really into Cry of the Afflicted. They're a Christian post hardcore band. A Scar Filled Sky ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsPO5QGkVtQ) is my favorite song of theirs.
Another good post hardcore band is Scary Kids Scaring Kids. The Deep End ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRGJv49QtQU) is really good.
Another band I've recently gotten back into listening to is 30 Second to Mars. I really like Hurricane ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RLwuDQSkDI). This link is NSFWish. I'm not sure how graphic the Youtube version gets but the uncut video is... pornographic. :erm:

A favorite is hard to pick. Though I guess this is one that's likely.
Kamelot
Power Metal
Mourning Star
Amazing Vocals, highly energetic music, and very well written Lyrics. Mourning Star itself has a powerful atmosphere to it, more so then any of their other songs.

Boom Boom Satellites is probably my favorite band. They've always got something for whatever listening mood I'm in, whether I want to relax or be hyper. I couldn't possibly pick a favorite out of all of their awesome songs, but here's a good one:

Right now I can not get enough of this song
YouTube - Light This City - The Unwelcome Savior (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1H4SVRApGhM)
"Light This City- The Unwelcome Savior" I like it...gives me the same pleasure and relaxation that ghost hunting brings me. :)
But, that's not all I'm into right now.
See you next Tuesday- Honey I've never had sex ( I love this track) (Warning visual violence in clip, pretty disturbing, but I like the track.)
YouTube - see you next tuesday - honey i've never had sex (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eQJU8tb0Ec)
There's a few bands I've recently listened to on and off, and thats a few too many to actually list. :p
Genre, haha. No, no....please don't get me started, any one who knows it, knows what genre I'm talking about. It's not necessarily my favorite but right now I like it
LOL, lots of you like "that genre"....
Diablo Swing Orchestra is sort of a funny band.
I enjoy a lot of music. I'll listen to a lot of different genres. I think classical music has something in common with metal, but I might be a lone in this.
Killwhitneydead - This band is fun, sort of different. They use a unusual amount of movie dialog in their songs.
Oh, and this is a Christian death metal band...pretty awesome, and they sound original to me , personally
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rjcDEIw3mc
I like this band too...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rjcDEIw3mc
Pure Reason Revolution, has a certain sound to it, don't know if it's in the same cat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rjcDEIw3mc
But I came across it...
Another band, nothing strange about it really...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6mUUaJF7OY
Dr. Acula
Something sort of different about this band, but I don't know if I like it...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icWsSjeCHJE
LOL, there's so many more that I can't even begin to list. I don't necessarily like them even but I think it's a interesting genre to get into. Beautiful music, and lyrics full of emotion, angst.
I also like silly stuff like Aqua, Dee Lite.
I like Dragonland as a speed metal band...I DONT CARE IF YOU DONT THINK ITS SPEED METAL OR NOT!
Dio....
Within Temptation as a symphony band but not as much Nightwish...
i like just about every song called Frozen, lol...that includes Delain but I'm not a huge Delain fan.
Seriously though, right now I'm just mostly in and out of one sub genre...but there's a lot of good music that you could list.

I love the video, the music, the voice...but I'm not a Delain fan really.
Then of course Arch Enemy and The Agonist but I thought it was kind of generic to bring up. BUT I do like The Agonist, I think it's a bit softer than Light This City but I love them both, yes love...

You do too.
I thought this was just a good thread to share it in.
But, I'm trying to say, the worse thing about this genre is people who whine about what genre something is for hours on end, where as they could just shut up and enjoy the music. So many people in "this crowd" are so argumentative and angry over the silliest things. This music actually calms me down.
i think I can dig up some similar bands to Lamb of God. But actually to be honest I love the vocals, atleast from what I've heard. Some of my fav too of that sound.
Decadence , well not as a similar example to Lamb of God, lol. I just have a real thing for chicks who do this. It's just a thing...I enjoy this but it's not as brutal.

In concept, I'd like to be able not to judge others, but I do time and time again. LOL this thread has like metal posts all over it though.
I'll listen to POP music.
I always had this side of me and this energy as a "artist", "etc" type of person and this music (metal) just seems to be a good fit for me.

I was born Catholic and so I love to go against those old socially accepted catholic vibes and have fun with existence, mix things up. Thanks for the suggestion!
LOL, I love it when I hear this sort of thing in a band like this. A rather enjoyable experience but not necessarily a album buy. But it's a treat!
Suicide Silence, I like this...

It might sound strange but it puts me at peace with myself. I listen to softer stuff like Within Temptation too.
Actually, being out of it for a long time that's where I started at again this year, is with WT.
I love roller coasters too, though I don't really get a rush from music as much as coasters, it still feeds something in me that I want to grow and want fed. :D
Metal surprises the hell out of me, so many sub genres, i just wish people could enjoy them and not argue what was what, hahaa. But I don't ultimately judge those that do argue, as long as they enjoy it, I'm ok with that because I won't argue back with them.
I also admit to listening to Amy Lee, I don't care what theys says...she's cool in my book.
Ok, softer sides
Paramore

Amy Lee , love this song, doesn't have to be anything but what it is...

Avril Lavigne, yes :D But here you'll see a older version of her, but you'd still dislike it probably. BUT I can listen to this. I am a fan of her older work. I can tell you the order of tracks on the albums.

it dont sound strange at all...metal in general is a great genre to let ur emotions go to...the rush of the guitar, the beat of the drum, and the anger, hate, love, happiness, or sadness is what makes it all go together and makes it so appealing to some people...i would rather make my ears bleed when im sad than listen to a love drunk country song or lil wayne rap about being put it jail, but thats me. and sub genres are pointless...knowing its metal is enough to keep me listening haha

I agree. It's like poetry to me, I love making my own poetry, it's usually about storms or something or rather , or something as such, but it's usually the same as it's inspired by the same soul but it grows and chases after me in the darker FASTER and FASTER as I progress further and further into my life and I keep running forward and let it chase me down!
It's like a towering giant in the dark and metal, is like the sound of his footsteps. To be honest there's little love in my life, but I know I'm not dark hearted. I just like this stuff.
Not all my poetry is literally the same, haha, but it's the same entity that's running in the dark, the same inspired soul that's just running and running and it's so awesome and free and I love it! I love writing off my finger tips!
I also like other soft stuff, but I can't think of too many examples right now.

It's too hard to pick out a permanent favorite. There's so much good stuff. I'm still addicted to Animals As Leaders - "CAFO" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmfzWpp0hMc) right now. That's my current favorite, I guess.

Try it without thinking, set your soul free and let it be chased , run scared and passionate, just let go and run with it, let it flow man, AHHHHHHH! lol and let your fingers hit the keys and scamper across your board. HAHA HA Then go back and fix typos and improve what you've wrote. Works for me.

Asked for what? That's what I do, and a few people appreciate it. :)
I don't think when I do poetry, it's in my heart, it's not that I think I have a imagination, we all have imaginations, you just have to connect to yours.
Let go and just type, type imagery and symbolism that come out of your subconscious mind. Don't think too much about it and you might be surprised what's chased out of you.
I like that I think 'I might work this nonsense into a poem. I like this concept of being chased...

If you want Animals As Leaders with vocals, try Periphery. They're more djent, so it's not the exact same. Very good, and very progressive. I actually liked Periphery more before the vocalist came onboard buy, meh.
Misha Mansoor (aka Bulb) from Periphery actually helped Tosin Abasi write some of the drum tracks and few other things on the first Animals As Leaders album.
I struggle to pick favourites because I change so often. To bring something different to the table, I really like The Whitlams, an Australian "indie rock" band. Blow Up The Pokies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ogj5ztTE0zw) is probably my favourite song of theirs.

So, I decided I liked this music but my "old friend" stop talking to me after I expressed a interest in it. :)
People don't understand, but I don't fault them. There's many human stereotypes and generalizations that have been programmed into them socially since birth to alienate me. Maybe something is wrong with me, i don't know...Maybe, but I'd like to think that some day, when I'm ready I'll find some one, or something in my life that allows me to see things clearly. Because I'm confused why I can't make any friends, why I choose to ignore people I think I could care about. I don't have the answers.
So, I write poetry on occasion, and try to find other ways to feel what's inside of me. Strong forces are at play and I'd like to think all of these things are significant and beautiful in some way. I enjoy metal music, I appreciate it. Now , my only friend, who was a old friend, in about 5 years is alienating me because he's afraid of me, or at least judges me.
On this some what emo note, I don't like emo music. :p
Anyways, that is off topic. I'm just saying people don't understand the genre.

Completely agreed. I don't talk to people because I don't want to though. It's just because I'd rather stay out of people's way and keep myself out of trouble. And no offence man, but these emo things you say are what give metal the demonic, suicidal stereotypes people judge us metalheads by. But then again, that's what most of us end up to be :D

what other christian hardcore/metalcore/metal bands do you listen to? most of my favorites are in this subgenre
and The Chariot is pretty effin amazing...ive ran across them multiple times on my search for new bands
I really enjoy Underoath's new material, really epic and Botch-inspired. I like all of As Cities Burn's discogaraphy, even though the first one is the only post-hardcore one. I really like Norma Jean's Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child, and to some extent O' God, the Aftermath, but nothing really after that. I also kinda dig Haste the Day, recently saw them on their farewell tour with The Chariot. Can't really think of anything else, I don't enjoy most of the contemporary bands because they all rip off The Devil Wears Prada (who I'm meh on) and August Burns Red (who are ok). What are you into tho??
While we're on the topic of djent, here's a sweet band called Chimp Spanner. Also, I saw Animals as Leaders recently too and they were great.

:erm:
I'm not normally in to the Christian rock scene, frankly it's a little too religious for my tastes, the overtone of dogmatic preaching disagrees with me. I'm pretty sure most people here are aware of my views on religion if you're not, check some of my posts in threads on the subject of them. However that first song by Cry Of The Afflicted there was pretty damn good I must say and managed to somehow lyrically carry less religious overtones than a Paramore track lol.
The second song, Scary Kids Scaring Kids is also a damn good track there I heartily approve of these choices.
30 Seconds To Mars well I need not say anything I love that band, I saw them live on the Hurricane tour was an amazing night they truly are great live.
Personally I am a rock/emo scene guy I don't suppose I do have a favourite band really. I love a lot of artists stuff and listen to it extensively artists like Foo Fighters, Rise Against, 12 Stones, Breaking Benjamin, 30 Seconds To Mars, Lost Prophets, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, Lacuna Coil, 3 Doors Down, Trapt, Journey, Biffy Clyro, Blink 182, Yellowcard and many many more. Then again my tastes range from stuff like David Gray through to Slipknot and beyond so I'm weird.
At the moment I'm listening extensively to the new Rise Against Album - Endgame mainly because I'm seeing them live in around 24 hours :D

I'm a bit of a rarity around EoFF as I like mainstream music. ;) I always find it really difficult to come up with a 'favourite' genre/song/band. Genre I suppose is easiest, since it covers so many things... but basically I can like anything that isn't thrashing/screaming metal. Classical, pop, rock, indie, country, folk, rap, R&B, hip hop, disco, foreign or local, synth... I've enjoyed songs from all of these genres, but I can never really get my head around a guy screaming over the thrashing of drums and whatnot.
As for favourite artists, it's hard to really say, but I'll put down a few examples. All are based on their music, not their celebrity status... I don't know much about that end of things.

Something Corporate
Def Leppard
Jars of Clay

Quite a few people are turned off towards good Christian artists just because they're labeled as such. To be honest I've never heard a Christian artist with "dogmatic preachy" lyrics. It's all about praising God, not preaching to you their beliefs.
If you liked Cry of the Afflicted because their religious views weren't exactly obvious in their music then you'd probably like RED ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow2rvBbUuP4), Anberlin ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za4k3qTOPsE), Chevelle ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YMc6P6UDMk) (which is a big controversy apparently), Ivoryline ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K41N14DN0zI), Emery ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qW9_cklGbOg), Secret and Whisper ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GouIjap26eg), Since October ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGk_UQvBW8M), and maybe even Fireflight ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9Co6ZfVBXc).

Ive heard them before and did not know it...but i remember them as soon as i heard them...epic band...and whats the djent stuff?
Djent is a very loosely described genre of metal that holds a common theme of using 8-string guitars and bass and the signature sounds created by those instruments when the strings are hit a certain way followed up by a quick mute.
It literally makes a "djent" sound. As in, "djent....djentdjent...djent....djentdjent...djentdjentdjent..."
Meshuggah is credited with creating the sound, and considered the grandfather of the genre, but I don't know how fair that is. Most of the bands in this "genre" are really creative and that "djent" aspect is just one aspect of their song structures.
Here's a random sampling of some bands using that "djent" sound. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VamcHhfnWeo)
Here's the urban-dictionary take on it. (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=djent) Seems pretty accurate. It's more a sound than a genre. Most djent bands are really just heavier progressive metal.

Call it what you will, that's the definition. It's just like saying the Blues is a dumb name. It's music about how the person feels, and the feeling is blue. The Blues. This music has a common sound, so it's named after that sound. What's so bad about that?
Furthermore, I said it was a loose description. To me it was more a sound than a genre anyway. It just seems that a lot of the newer progressive metal out there is using that sound, so they get put into that genre. It's a very new genre, so the definition is not very concrete. Whatever though. As long people are trying new things I'm happy.

I don't know if there really is a "good" way to name a genre. Seems as logical as any other. Look at how metal go it's name. The same way. Especially heavy metal or industrial. They were named for the sounds they make.
Besides, like Bunny said, genres are sort of limiting and silly anyway. They're just useful when describing a band to someone else.

I love metal chicks. I think women vocals are more moving and powerful than male vocals. I enjoy female screams and growls.
A woman can hit higher notes and it sounds more natural and organic, passionate, and like it's from her soul. A guy sounds like he has a sore throat and is screaming GO GET ME A SANDWICH, while the woman is screaming and growling about being told to get that sandwich and it comes off naturally, organically and REAL ! BULLOCKS.
I'm not a fan of Arch Enemy. BUT...
Male vocals are lame, like the Dark Knight type of BS. I think we're defining power differently. Males are all like demon growl voice, monster type thing. Women are more emotional, spiritual in nature, and can growl meaner and their screams are more real and intense than a man's...
One is more organic, the other is like some one is playing the Dark Knight...

I think you listen to too much screamo then mate because there is simply no way that is true of real metal. You're romanticizing the vocals and adding qualities that just aren't there.
The point of screams and growls is to match the harsher, more aggressive sound of the music accompanying, and female vocals simply lack the punch to do so the majority of the time.

Bah...real metal? Poser...:roll2
I like what I like and it's metal.I don't give a fck about sub genres.
That is the most lame argument there is...sub genre is the second worse.
You don't like what I like so it's not real metal. And third lamest argument? Is that you're a poser and I'm not...
But, hey now that we're doing this...:roll2.
I think male vocals lack power often. Metal music doesn't scare me or anything. "Death metal" if you would, relaxes me...I almost fall asleep listening to it. I'm not looking for a bad ass or anything. I think the female vocals to hard music work just fine and are a great combination.Matching the vocals, now who is defining and romancing?
Fine, if that's what you get out of it, I think some diversity in a song is a good thing, where a woman can match the feeling of a song, because she's more sensitive and emotional typically in nature, personally and there's nothing un-brutal about a lot of music I listen to.ESPECIALLY FOR A WOMAN.
I enjoy it. Few women can do it, and some can't pull it off. MANY can't.
Forgive me for being so one sided. I do enjoy male vocals, growls. If I'm not mistaken my current favorite band Light This City uses both in their songs...and I enjoy the combination of both. But don't be telling me that it isn't real metal and that those chicks don't have talent and aren't doing something that many other chicks can't. Let's be real, not mean, hard, metal? Let's see you do what some of these chicks can do. They don't even need a sound studio to sound this way, it's pure vocals.
Now, please refrain from saying what real metal is or isn't, these chicks are extreme and deserve the respect that they deserve.
I still say that male vocals are more expected, generic, than female vocals...that is a opinion and that doesn't mean it's not real metal music. This isn't science or something, it simply is metal music. I know it's hard to be a "metalhead" and open minded but it's possible...
Something like this for another example, The Agonist, relaxes me, but it's not like this is your every day chick. And apparently it's " Melodic death metal
Metalcore" Which seems to be a accepted title to the sub genre (God forbid these arguments...) BUT, if you punch it in, I think you'll find that a lot of it has the same sort of feeling to it.
I like how female singers can be like sirens and also switch their voices to deeper depths of feelings that are brutal and ANGST. Males can have range, but when a woman sings beautifully and then can tab into her more aggressive and pained nature, and bring it all out and as hard as she can, harder than most chicks...I like that. It sounds good to me, apparently I'm not the only person either.
I listen to all kinds of music. Female singers have that awesome range, where they can be expected, and also hard, harsh. Males on the other hand, I don't like soft male vocals in ANY music, let alone metal music. (Just about) and so I don't get that range, especially when guys have a deeper voice...
On this note, I'm not a fan of emo, just some range and feeling in the voice, that makes it more real and brutal to me than some guy growling, yelling.
Of course it's romancing, it's music...it's art, it's literature, it's entertainment! I don't like all of it, not all female vocalists can pull it off.

Is this really going to devolve into an argument based on "let's see you do better"?
*sigh* That's just silly, mate.
Do a poll of the top 100 metal vocalists and I doubt a female would break the top 50. I think you're trying too hard to be different.

Not all of 'em, dude. Whether is old school hardcore, metal, or something in between. A lot of these women sound awesome.

A quick Google search revealed a list of the Top 100 Metal vocalists.
This list includes Freddy Mercury, Fred Durst, and Scott Stapp. Kurt Cobain also made the list at #20.
Lists are extremely flawed.
(The list in question was done by Hit Parader (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hit_Parader).)

Arch Enemy is the main one I had in mind when writing that post. :p
You really don't think Angela has good vocals? I've had people completely not believe that it was a chick on voclas until I had to show them a video. Same thing with Candice. No one believes that they're women. :p
And I hadn't noticed it before but that BMTH breakdown is really close. That's funny.

A friend tipped me off to these two bands
White Chapel
YouTube - Whitechapel - "Possession" Metal Blade Records (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7JWBaTXtwQ)
Born of Osiris
YouTube - Born of Osiris - Open Arms to Damnation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvVJ1lfwQ7w)
Personally, Born of Osiris has some awesome music behind it! I mean damn!
Now, honorable judges, ladies, gentlemen of the jury,
Please allow me to present my case...
ETHS , yes has soft spots but when it turns brutal it's awesome.
YouTube - ETHS - Crucifère (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S97oUM_fjs8)
Shocker X, I love this band already, just discovered it.
YouTube - SHOCKER X "US" PV (HQ) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlvsUHp4mX4)
Dreaming Dead, her voice cracks, she isn't as brutal as many males but still a good band
YouTube - Dreaming Dead - 'Overlord' Official Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2s3vltlM0o)
Rolo Tomassi, some what brutal , very original, I'd like to see any male pull this off...
YouTube - Rolo Tomassi - I Love Turbulence (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7AXUmYrNq4)
Landmine Marathon, generic but still pretty good stuff. Brutal and senseless!
YouTube - Landmine Marathon - "Shadows Fed to Tyrants" Prosthetic Records (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdLAeARPdSY)
Iwrestledabearonce, this band is amazing...weird band, and this chick is intense
YouTube - iwrestledabearonce - Danger In The Manger (OFFICIAL VIDEO) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5aK7GTBu2A)
smurf the Facts, is it a man or woman? She owns, end of story, metal artists in GENERAL can barely keep up.
YouTube - smurf The Facts - Taken From the Nest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_fb-XmW5EQ)
Kittie cut throat, another example how wrong you are about metal chicks
YouTube - KITTIE Cut Throat (new 2009!) Official Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsuTuAVJrF8)
Otep, let's see a guy pull this off? This is a awesome sound...

PSST it's a good band, but did you even look at the links I posted? Some of them are just as brutal as for example this from your combatant.

Good band though, great band. I still enjoy female fronted metal bands. Wow, this is a good band, listening to the song ^. But female fronted bands can be just as brutal with the vocals. The Agonist might even be more brutal than this

I see you're that type of fan. It depends on who does the song, and if it's a woman there's no talent involved...
Aren't intelligent people beyond this yet? There's more to good music than what sex or color some one is...
Whatever man. Metal may not be emo music but a lot of it is about the emotion in the song. My friend who is like 30 something years old has listened to metal his whole life and he agrees. Doesn't matter who sings it.
I bet that you have holes in your ears bigger than your canals and baggy black pants with chains and arm warmers and make up around your eyes.
I got nothing wrong with this image, but certain people definitely make it 2 dimensional, especially when they work so hard towards fitting stereotypes made around this image.
Metal snobs are just annoying, no body wants to hear your :bou::bou::bou::bou: about what is or isn't good music. There is talent here, and it shows.

I had a point to make with the image thing. I don't judge people by the image, as I said I have nothing against that. But certain fanatical people who create that image for their selves can as I said the first time, make it 2 dimensional. You just seem to think pretty flat on this, literally...
Sure you would, praise my ass. The example you posted was softer than some of the chicks in these links and your original comment was something to the effect that a woman couldn't pull it off...You just keep making excuses because you love one thing and are closed minded about another...
Whatever man, your opinion is just that. They have made a career, they are in a fantastic genre of music. And there's nothing really to say that they are failures in their lives. Nor is there any remote indication WHATSOEVER that they are failures in their metal careers.

Speaking of female vocal's, I think I'm the only fan I've found that's okay with Anette's vocals in Nightwish. It's been like two years now, and it still sends people into a rage.

So do you like Olson in Nightwish?
Well we agree to disagree, but I have to ask. If you don't like what you consider weak growlers and screamers (females), what do you think of the male vocalist in Epica? I love their music, but I think he really takes away from it sometimes. His vocals just sound weak to me.

I find screaming in music that isn't primarily screaming based jarring to say the least. It sounds awkward in symphonic/power metal for the most part.
As for Nightwish, Dark Passion Play is one of my favorites.

AND RAGH!!!!!!
YEAH!!!!!
The majority of woman vocalizations in metal come off as weak and powerless. Unless it's operatic singing, I'd rather hear a dude.
Slightly off topic this topic, but I'd much rather hear Operatic type singing in Metal then the growling from either one of them. :p
