I recently started playing CT:FE and I must say it is written really well for a fan made sequel. It's a really good play (although a bit hard). And I was wondering if any of you have played it and what your thoughts are.
Is this the one that had 3D graphics and Square ordered a cease-and-desist on? I've seen it running and it looked awesome, but I've never played it since I never beat CT ^_^'
(Also you may want to put some dimension tags on your signature or edit it down a tad. It goes beyond the border of the style I'm using so I assume its beyond the suggested limits of signatures @_@)

No it's a 2D sequel. I know what the 3D remake you're talking about. I would have loved if SE let them finish it.
And thanks about the heads up about the sig Vyk, I'll sort it out now.

Crimson Echoes was also a fan made sequel. Great game. Really well done. And they finished the whole thing basically before Square gave them the death letter.
Never heard of this one though. Will check it out.
Edit: Uh well apparantly Flames of Eternity is Crimson Echoes.

Yep, they're the same game. It's harder than the original which is always good in a fan remake.

I haven't even heard of this sequel, but hey, after reading this, I'm going to look for it. Thanks for the tip :D Long live CT!

Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity is basically a "take that" to the creators of Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes. The plot is mostly the same with some key differences particularly in one of the characters and the final boss. There was a leak of Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes on Reddit a couple of months ago that is just as complete as the playthrough on YouTube, and that experience is probably considered more ideal than Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity which lacks the new techniques and has some buggy sprites of a human Glenn.

Seriously, if fans can do it, what makes it so hard for SE to do a sequel to CT/CC? Maybe a sequel to CT that is a prequel to CC. They could even use the same engine they used for CT DS and release it on the DS. The added areas of CT DS were so cool that I don't know why they don't make a whole game of it.

I don't know why Square Enix chooses to ignore select series from their roster, but they do show some interest in protecting their older works when they serve Cease & Desist letters to small groups of fans that are working on large projects like that.
I think they just don't want anyone else to have stolen the limelight if/when they get around to doing it. It's silly; let the fans make their games if you're going to sit on your butt for so long.
Hell, pay the fans a little bit and touch it up and release it yourself. Easy money on SquareEnix's part I would think.

I think that might possibly be a murky area for most companies. The closest example to paying a fan would be when a special netcode was written by someone from the fighting game community and Capcom eventually purchased a license for it to use in some of their releases.

Nooo. Make it for a home console. Particularly the PS3.
