It's because Odin was not always as adept with the sword as he is now. There was a slight training mishap in his early years.

When you're trying to populate an alien planet, the easiest thing to do is just give normal animals a couple extra legs and a swanky new name.

How many legs does Slepnir have? I know in VIII and IX he has six.

Supposed to have eight.

I've been working up a concept for Sleipnir that makes it look more like a giant scorpion with hooves and a unicorn head.
