I really like Alexandria. Before it goes boom. I thought it was a great city to start the character off in. Then possibly Lindblum, Treno, Conde Peitie, and Cleyra last.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAV?

I used to be a fan of Burmecia, because living in Britain it probably felt the most like home, weather-wise.

However, on reflection I think I'd plump for Alexandria too. Quite nice, picturesque city, surrounded by water and with quite a nice feel about it. The castle is pretty unique, though I wouldn't want to look at the sword when the sun was shining on it for fear of being blinded... Lindblum would be a close second.

Treno because I like thieves and ragtime music.

The name, the music, the events, and of course the location: Alexandria. Love it!

Lindblum is my all time favourite video game city, it reminds me of a small city close to where I live which in olden days was inside a castle wall.

FF9 had the best towns, Daguerro was interesting as was Treno.

Clerya was an awesome tree fort. Too bad it was infested with rats and had to be turn down.

The Village of the Black Mages. I liked the music very much.

I would go with Treno if I was rich there, but if I was rich there then I would be a target for thievery. Lindblum seems to be a bustling city. A place to go if you wanted to make it big in the arts or science, but the city is also crowded and may be more expensive to live in, but your salary may balance it out. Alexandria seems more laid back and I like the current queen there, but there might be less entertaining things to do on a weekend. Alexandria has a theatre, but it's a lot smaller than Lindblum's. Hmm... hard one here.

The Village of the Black Mages and Cleyra had the best music for mine. Treno's great because of all the stuff you can do there. If I had to choose one, I'd go for the Village.

I definitely hate Lindblum though. Those annoying load times in between travelling from district to district were the dealbreaker. It was especially annoying during the Festival of the Hunt.

Burmecia for the music and atmosphere, more towns need rain effects. I like Lindblum but I love old school airships and technology, so wandering through the city was always a treat.

Thinking back, FFIX has some of the best town/cities in the series. Definitely up there with VII and XII.

It's hard to pick against Alexandria. It's such a great beginning location for the game. Then there's Cleyra, Treno, and Lindblum. Although I agree with Mo-Nercy about Lindblum; traveling between the districts can try my patience. Black Mage Village, Dali and Esto Gaza (great view!) are great, too.

Since I'm picking just one: Alexandria.

Probably Daguerreo or Madain Sari. FFIX did a good job at making all towns enjoyable, though...except Bran Bal, maybe.

You guys are right, they really did a great job with the cities in FFIX. I love them all, pretty much.

Treno!

I agree that FFIX has some of the best towns in the series! Actually, IX was full of fabulous fantasy settings too <3

Finally, someone with good sense to hate Lindblum, I don't know why so many people like it, its probably my lest favourite city in any game.

Anyways my favourite city is a toss up between BM Village and Burmecia.

Alexandria or Lindblum for me too. Dali is charming, and Treno is interesting. But yeah, probably Alexandria. :)

The Village Of the Black Mages, but I also found Dali quite nice and peaceful. Maybe because I dont like big cities. X)

If there were no loading times, would you still hate it?

It wasn't really the loading times itself. It was the slow nature of the airbuses. The actual 'black screen' time was quite acceptable in FFIX.

It's a small thing to get up in arms about, but it comes of the back of a few close losses in the Festival of the Hunt before I found out that losing (and letting Freya win) is actually better.

Lindbulm and Alexandria in particular, but FFIX did excellent in giving each city and town a unique feel and culture.

Lindbulm just felt huge and very laidback, as Alexandria felt very hustle-and-bustle.

Dali, because I liked the background music there.

Treno, because it looked so pretty and well-designed.

Alexandria, because I liked the idea of a female-dominated city, for a change.

I rather choose Qu's marsh instead of any of the cities in FFIX...
I loved the music and the Qu race!

Treno was fun.

I wish they still made fun cities like that, but I have some hopes for FFXIII-2 :jess:

Alexandria would be a good place to visit for the lakes.

Treno would remind one of the 'wrong' side of big cities where bad stuff happens.

Lindblum's the closest the FFIX world can go being our world's 19th century New York (remember this is in the 1800s in their world). It is the most happening of places, has an entire district dedicated to the economy (Industrial and Business District), has another district dedicated to the Arts (Theatre District).

Also if you are looking for a good airline job, Lindblum is the place to go. Either as a cab driver for intra-city travel, or one of the bigger cargo or transport ships for Burmecia or Alexandria. Future prospects also are good if and when the other continents are opened up for intercontinental travel.

Lindblum is the only armed forces where you can apply to be in the air force and man one of the flak cannons on the airborne destroyers or be in the airborne infantry. All Alexandria has is the Queen's own command ship the Red Rose and you have to be one of her most trusted to even be on that ship.

Like America back then, Lindblum also is the place for cutting edge technology. The first steam engine was built and used there. So there's a lot of research opportunities in there for Gaia scientists and researchers.

Almost all of the Main Continent ones. It's one of the reasons I loved FFIX so much, because the world it was set in was just so.... *magical* :jess:

My faves though:
Lindblum - the size and variety of it. It genuinely seemed like a city.
Treno - ah, the dark city of nobles and paupers. Classy!
Burmecia - So atmospheric with the rain and the music.

I could live in Lindblum, I like the transportation systems and everything.

As someone else mentioned, Alexandria is so picturesque, and that always drew me to it, but it comes in second to Conde Petie, which is one of my favorite locations in all of the Final Fantasy games.

I love the way it catches the light, how it's suspended over the valley, and the whole environment of the place. Also, dwarves.

Cleyra comes in third, as it resonates with my childhood/current dream to live in a giant treehouse.

My favorite city is Madain Sari. I just love Eiko and the moogles, and just the overall feel of the place. Like flowers of hope blooming in a land recovering from devastation.
