Why is richard shortened to dick? What other names are shortened weird? Like James and Jim. That doesn't even make sense. What is your least favorite shortened proper Christian Jesus H Christ Name?

I can't stand it when my clients are called Mike. It causes a short circuit in my brain and I can't understand them.

I also dislike Ambers.

James to Jim makes some sense.

James -> Jimmy -> Jim.

And where does Jimmy come from?

I dislike the shortened version of my name because it is too easy to shorten even further.

I started answering to Richard for a while because people call me Dik. So I convinced people my name was actually Richard. I didn't like Richard any more than I liked Dik. I prefer people just call me Dakoda or sir or your highness or something.

James -> Jamie -> Jimmy -> Jim.

Could possibly make more sense, especially if you try saying it with an accent :p

I've never understood how Jack became short for John. There's at least a few things wrong with that.

I guess it's the same thing with William being shorted to Bill, instead of Will.

William -> Will -> Bill
Richard -> Rick -> Dick

Well to be fair, John is short for Johnathan.

I used to call my friend bob, then we all just switched and now refer to him as boob.
It always annoys me when people try to shorten already short names, sometimes its just not even necessary but people still do it.

I go by Justy :bigsmile:

I figure I can shorten it later. Maybe Justin > Justy > Ju > Jew :)

Actually I watched this weird like "the origins of words" thing once upon a time and it was about the origin of paddock or some :bou::bou::bou::bou:. ANYWAY they mentioned that IN YE OLDE TIMES the Rs and Ds were basically the same :bou::bou::bou::bou: hence Rick -> Dick. But take this at face value, I was probably drunk outta my mind.
