This old news (http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108993-Square-Pumping-Up-Final-Fantasy-V-for-PSN-Release) but glancing through the articles, I noticed something interesting.

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy V is coming to the PlayStation Network for the PSP and PS3 with all-new cinematic sequences. It'll also feature, well, nothing else new.

I'm a bit curious to know what this entails. Hopefully, they won't use the localization from the Anthology version.

Well good. Previously the only legit options were PSX and GBA, neither of which particularly appeal to me. The only thing I hope they change is the speed of the menus. When playing the GBA version I noticed a very slow response speed when using menus. Typical of back then, but aggravating for me now.

it had better be $5.99 and not $9.99
also, they should do that with VI

This is great news for me. I had bought anthology on Ebay and my copy of V froze every time I attempted to save so finally I can play and beat the game. When's the release date?

No one has said a word on its release, though articles say it will be based off the Anthology version, so I may give it a pass if that means I have to suffer through the crappy localization.

VI has been released in Japan as a PSN game (and VC as well) but no words on a U.S. release though Europe did get confirmation of FFVI for WiiVC. I think this is different though due to the minor new content, whereas the VI one is just a direct port of either the SNES Woosely version and the Anthology version.

Why would they opt to use the Final Fantasy Anthology localization instead of the Final Fantasy V Advance localization? I thought they were past going back to poor translations.

Maybe Sony has a problem with them putting a Nintendo version of a game on their system?

Yeah sounds to me like its petty politics, but then again, that just might mean features. If SE is going to the trouble of making new cutscenes for it, I don't see why they wouldn't give it a new localization as well. Then again, they've done stupid things before...

I've been playing through FF7-9 on my PS3 and would have loved to get in to FF5 and 6, but if it's based off the Anthology version then I just don't know. :\

I'd be willing to buy the 6 as anthology version, but not 5... not even.

Is it really that bad?

Its like ffv with as much misspelling as ff7 times ten

If you haven't noticed people here tend to be a little pickier than most when it comes to FF titles. The only really significant difference is the disk load speed for every battle, which really does blow. I sincerely hope they don't need to be that authentic.

The disk load speed is pretty horrible. Kinda like waiting for tactics to load a battle

Loading times were awful in the Anthology version but V is atrocious to me cause its translation/localization is horrible. Like SNES FFIV bad, where Faris talks like a Saturday morning cartoon pirate Argh! It be a a blimey shame that she speak like that Argh! Argh, I can't believe it was like this the whole game, Argh!

You get my point. :p

I'm hoping SE will do the right thing and either use the GBA translation, pull an FFIV and give it a new localization, or hell, I would even take just releasing it Japanese over the terrible Anthology translation.

If I bought it over PSN only to find it was in Japanese I would be... displeased.

If it's the Anthology version, I won't touch it with a ten-foot pole. If it's a bit enhanced so the graphics of for example the battle backgrounds and the music are up to par with the Advance version, and the translation IS the Advance version or a new one, then I might get it. My copy of V Advance is annoying, it constantly corrupts my savefiles. No fun, getting up to the Cleft of Dimensions with a full bestiary only to have your savedata corrupted. Aargh. >.<

I enjoyed the Anthology version of FFV flaws and all. Good games don't spoil even when badly ported.

I'm currently playing the Anthology version and it's my first time playing FFV, and I'm enjoying it. It's very silly. There's this awful glitch though if you're playing it on a PS2 or pretty much anything other than a PS1 where if you try to save, 50% of the time you just get garbage. Usually you can just keep trying until it rights itself, but yesterday it crashed on me :(

Yeah, the PS2 has some backwards compatibility issues with some titles. FF Anthology was one of the more high profile ones.

Oh I thought it was just my copy. The game froze every time I tried to save it on my PS3.
So you were able to save?

Yeah, it's only crashed the one time. I've had to exit and re-enter the menu a million times, but usually I can eventually save the game. I don't know if you can even do that much on a PS3 though. It looks pretty cool sometimes! Usually it's just blocky garbage, but sometimes it's scribbles, or I'll walk around and everything in battle will be invisible but weapons and spells!
