View Full Version : Who needs Spiral Knights? We got us some LotRO!

My brother got an email or something about a bunch of free to play MMOs and Spiral Knights ( http://www.spiralknights.com/) was up at the top of the list. It's pretty fun. It's like a kiddie version of WoW.

Vindictus ( http://vindictus.nexon.net/) was another one, and this one looks really badass. I downloaded it but I can't play it, the sound gets really fucked up and the game lags like crazy.

Lord of the Rings Online ( http://www.lotro.com/?) was in the list as well. I'm downloading that right now, hoping it works better than Vindictus. Pretty exited to get into that.

Anybody play any of these? Anybody want to play any of these? If you play or are gonna dl let me know, it'd be fun to team up.

Discuss. Enjoy. Do whatever it is you do in these types of threads.

Spiral Knights looks pretty cool. But I generally try to stay away from F2P MMO's.

Yeah, same here. But I've been bored as hell lately and I'm just looking for something to do, really.

Fly For Fun (http://flyff.gpotato.com/) (or Flyff) is a game I played a bit with an old friend of mine. You get a sweet hoverboard which was the main drawcard for me. MMOs don't usually hold my attention for too long, primarily because I have :bou::bou::bou::bou: net, but I would love to play LotR online.

You can find me as Spindleweiss on Spiral Knights. Crawling through by yourself can be a dangerous but rewarding experience, which is what I tend to do in lieu of teaming up with three strangers. I will not associate with anyone who has not a name relating to machinery.

ShlupQuack and I used to play Perfect World International (http://pwi.perfectworld.com/) and Hello Kitty Online (http://www.hellokittyonline.com/) though we never really hung out. I suspect it was because I killed the orcas for fun in the former and gathering fifty pieces of clover in the latter is tedious.

I am generally game for a game in which I can play with others.

I used to play sword of the new world and vindictus. Both were fun in their own way. i played perfect world for a short while as well, and 1 other i can't remember.

You can find me as Twoarmedbandit. My bro goes by Onearmedbandit. It's funny 'cause he's only got one arm, and I've only got two. It is my desire that I one day come across a Threearmedbandit.

Onearmedbandit isn't very good at the game unfortunately. :(

He has one arm, it's little wonder.

It's been awhile since I played any free MMOs. The last free MMORPG I played was Ragnarok Online, back when it was Beta and free. I should look into playing some of these free games now that I have a good laptop.

He has one arm, it's little wonder.

He didn't seem to quite get that all the actions he needed to do were within reach of his one hand. He kept using wasd to move and left click to shoot/attack. Poor guy.

Ouch!

Spiral Knights is by one of the guys from Mac Hall (now doing Three Panel Soul) and he's been pushing it pretty hard there for a while. The trailers look pretty slick, but I've not played it.

Anyone downloading LotRO should post their names in here so we can party up. I've learned how to IM but I'm saddened that I have no one to IM. :(

Iarlmund of the White Mountains. :monster:

I'm not sure if "of the White Mountains" is necessary, but I couldn't get a lock onto Jiro without that last bit.

Nice! xD

I kind of forgot how to IM when I saw you. It shocked me that we might have bumped into each other accidentally.

By the way, I couldn't find that damn kinship clerk anywhere. Some dude said every major city has one. I'll search through Thorin's Hall more carefully, but I didn't see him the first go through.

We're making an EoFF guild for anyone interested in playing. Jiro is an armorsmith and I'm a weaponsmith so we'll be able to get you properly outfitted early on in the game should you join us. :)

Jiro
05-03-2011, 09:33 AM
You need 8 dudes for a kinship, so we need a recruitment drive! I know there's one in Celodin and Thorin's Hall, but I can't remember where he's hiding in Thorin's crib.

G13
05-03-2011, 09:49 AM
Eight people!? I don't think we'll get that amount. Julian says he'll join at the end of the week, he's got some exams or something. If Bert will ever get on that puts us at five. Damn...

FFXIV is pretty awesome for a F2P game.

G13
05-03-2011, 09:54 AM
Is it also free to download?

Loony BoB
05-03-2011, 10:00 AM
It's probably still possible to get a buddy pass off someone and then all you need is a CD to install it, which I'm sure you can download and burn to disk. I don't think there would be any real problem with that when you consider that in order to use a buddy pass, you're supposed to simply get a disk off the peson who gives you the buddy pass so you can get it installed. So yeah, it's possible!

Don't know if I still have a buddy pass, but I might... I don't remember giving it out to anyone. Danielle probably still has hers, too. Hmm...

Jiro

G13
05-03-2011, 10:08 AM
I heard XIV sucked and that's why it's free. :|

I'd be willing to try it, but I have a sneaking suspicion this computer would :bou::bou::bou::bou: itself if I tried to play it. It was a miracle I could get LotRO to work, and even then I get kicked off the server every couple hours.

Loony BoB

It was stunning. I looked at Bilbo's maps and had a good manly cry over them.

By the way, Dak, we need to do a Fellowship soon. I have a few quests from the Hobbits that need them and I don't want to party up with some random person. They never communicate to me what they're doing and it's awful. D:

Also, got some medium hides for you. These Bree bears give 'em up every kill and are amazing to level off of.

So I decided to give LotRO another whirl, I played this game for a brief amount of time back in 07 but I am starting afresh and my character details are:

Class: Loremaster
Race: Elf
Name: Belathraen
Level: 1... at the time of posting xD

Jiro

I give it a week before you're ahead of me xD Oh man need to play more!

Madonna
05-21-2011, 06:59 PM
Shibuyauthil
Elf
Hunter
12

I did so well until the last five experience points of level nine. I had not died once until then, and since then I have been defeated four times. My bad for traveling to Bree to early and taking on level fifteen boars and bears.

In terms of Spiral Knights, I have gotten to the next depth, but only barely. I am soloing through the first three alone and doing the challenge arena things. Making new equipment is awesome, but screw bombs. I hate bombs.

By the way, fsck the Shire. It is huge, every bloody hobbit has a quest, and it stands between me and going back to Ered Luin so I can finish that area proper. Thinking to take a break, I snuck into Bree-land and ended up in an instance where some wight beat me more senseless than an angry cuckold could.

Excellent. Lookin' forward to playing with you Værn. We should be able to make a kin with you added to our ranks, provided that second accounts actually work the way I think they do.

Shadowdust is a natural born leader. We just finished a deed to kill 300 barrow spiders in this tiny ass barrow that always has at least ten people in it. He got a bunch of people together to join our Fellowship and we finished it in 1/10 the time it would have taken with us two. This man is legend!

Heh, thanks that's quite a compliment. I was just coming on to brag about the spider slaying. xD I actually started from the first tier of that deed. Oh and seeing as we are playing LOTRO and not another addition of FF I would recommend we steer clear of FF orientated names.

Btw everyone, in case you did not know, you can borrow other people's cosmetic gear and slot it into your own cosmo slot and you don't even need to keep the item, once its in the cosmo slot just hand the items back and you still keep the look, its just awesome.

A Storm of Swords

Oh and seeing as we are playing LOTRO and not another addition of FF I would recommend we steer clear of FF orientated names.

Well, since we'd be a kin comprised primarily of EoFFers I don't think FF names or EoFF names should be ruled out. If you don't want any outside fan names then we would have to rule out A Storm of Swords. Joke names shouldn't be ruled out either. A name that strikes laughter into the hearts of our enemies means we can kick them while they're doubled over! :D

I was thinking something like Knights of Cid as a throwback to the forums. Or since we're all playing on Riddermark maybe we could go Eyes on the Riddermark.

A Storm of Swords is winning? Ugh, why is there an option for A Song of Ice and Fire in our Lord of the Rings poll?

I do not like this, Sam I Am; I do not like this at all.
I do not like it one bit; that is not a name I would like to equip.
I do not like it for a kinship, not a drop, not a drink, not a sip.
I do not like it for the fandom, the praise for Martin is most random.
I do not like it for the lack of Rings, the most important of things.

[TR][TD]After a lengthy discussion with Eric we have come to the conclusion that we all want different things when it comes to the name of our Kinship, now I don't know about you guys but I really dislike silly names (like for instance Bombadil's Knights, a guy who prances around like.. meh you get the idea) and when it comes to the name of our Kinship its the second most important thing right after the people who are in our Kinship, we tossed a few names around and Eric was originally not going to discuss what he intended the name to be and was just going to go with Knights of Cid, again I don't know about you guys but I also think that name sounds... I dunno, a little off? I don't mind the name Cid's Knights but we also came up with another name: A Fellowship of Knights, it has a throw back to Eric's original idea of Knights of Cid and it also has Fellowship in its name, also a throwback to LotR which to me is a great idea of a name, both Eric and myself really like the name and think it would do everyone proud, those who want throw back's to both the game and EoFF have it, its not a silly name so it makes me happy and Eric (who obviously will be leading the Kinship) likes the name, it seems like a win win situation to me, what do you guys think.

Please note, this is a very important thing when it comes to LOTRO for me, I really really dislike silly names.

Fellowship of Knights works for me. I'm not to picky about names anyway. I'm just along for the ride. :p

Oh, I also noticed that double bonus points are back on sale. If you guys got $50 to spend, I seriously suggest taking advantage of this. 6900 points will get you most or all of the quest packs if you play your cards right.

However, on the way home from shopping tonight I got an idea from the radio. I propose we name our kinship after the Alan Parsons Project album, "Eye in the Sky"

That's who that was! I thought a kind stranger gave those to me. I don't think I have that character added, I'll have to get on that.

Ok, so it looks like Bombadil's Knights won. Personally, I think we should just go with that instead of cook up more schemes to get the name we/you/I/whathaveyou want. In all reality, it would be impossible to come up with a name that everyone agrees on, and we already had the poll implemented before KaiserDragon voiced his concern, so if there aren't any issues with it I'll be making the clan sometime later tonight. :)

[TR][TD]Ok, I have been speaking with Eric and I wanted to know what your guys opinion of the name Bombadil's Knights was, I personally loath the name and I feel that the name of the Kin was only chosen thus because of the fact the the poll was not public, I believe that it won based on outside votes, now I know I have said this but I cannot stand silly names, and I detest Bombadil.

Eric originally intended to name us Knights of Cid and only chose to make a poll when Proto convinced him to make a poll discussing the matter with the people who play the game, note: the poll has 10 voters, and as a matter of fact there are 7 in total EoFFers currently playing the game, that fact alone should be taken into account when deciding on the name of our Kin.

I know I did not vote for BK's and I know one other person (who shall remain nameless unless they choose otherwise) who did not vote for that name for our kin, take into the fact that leaves 5 unknown votes, I do not know who voted for what but I do know is that I think that the poll should be either remade or discussed in this thread as to the name of our Kin.

I would really appreciate it if you guys could post here whether you think the name Bombadil's Knights is a good name or not for our kin, I think (because of the fact that practically no one responded to my post) that most of you are not fussed when it comes to the name, but I am, its important to me that the name be something I like (or at the very least do not loath), if you guys decide that BK's is the name you really want that nothing I say or do will convince you otherwise, but if you do not mind what the name of the Kin is then I urge you to please voice your opinion.

I dig the name Bombadil's Knights. Tom is one of my favorite characters! I also like Knights of Bombadil.

But I don't want there to be an ongoing bitchfest about what our Kin is named. If anyone else doesn't like the name just say so and we can reset the poll or something.

Agent Proto
05-31-2011, 05:19 AM
Bombadil's Knights isn't much of a silly name. It's similar to Cid's Knights. Though, I do think Knights of Bombadil sounds more like a name for a Kin rather than Bombadil's Knights. I personally don't really mind what name we end up with. Besides, a name is only a name and shouldn't really be an issue at all, and we're all about enjoying ourselves, so don't let the name bother you if it ends up being something you don't like.

Madonna
05-31-2011, 05:50 AM
Is it going to ruin another person's day if we do not call ourselves the Knights of Bombadil/Bombadil's Knights? Apparently a name matters to some, so leave the decision to those who mind about monikers.

G13
06-01-2011, 05:28 AM
The thing is, he shouldn't have suggested the poll if he was afraid of getting a name he didn't like. I said I wouldn't count votes from non players, but that was when I thought I clicked that little box. Now that I've had time to think about it, who is to say that the extra votes didn't come from people who may be thinking about playing? You all certainly didn't join right away.

I told KD to post his opinion to see if others agreed with him as so far he has been the only one to mention his dislike of the name. We don't all play together for the benefit of any one person, we play together to help each other out and, above all, have fun. I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm not having any fun with this name business.

I decided to make an executive decision and put the list into a randomizer. The name to come out on top is our clan name.

Greysought was first. If anyone is against that then please feel free to make your own clan. :)

I'll make it the next time I see someone online, that way that person can add another the next time they see someone online, and so on and so forth.

Awesome. :D I knew it was something like that. I hadn't noticed becoming a premium player until I had purchased the Lone Lands when I started. I always thought it had something to do with the purchase but I wasn't sure if it was the TP or quest pack that upgraded. Anyway, good to know.

Just for everyone to know, you can save even more money by buying some cheap Mines of Moria from the store to get five permanent character slots. :D Also, you get a free month of VIP which also leaves some permanent benefits once the month has expired. :D I noticed after installing the expansion, I didn't have to buy my warden or rune-keeper class either. :D Just make sure you create them before the VIP month expires.

EDIT: Well, it might be better to get it from the LOTRO store because everyone is over-charging for the box, even Amazon where I got mine. I spent $10 for mine but now they want $40. :( On the LOTRO store, it's about $25 in TP value.

Well, I have some bad news. I'll be needing to take a break from LOTRO for awhile. My wife and I have been discussing it for quite some time today and we both agreed we need to pull the plug for awhile and focus on spending more time with each other. So much has been going on in our personal lives that we've just been using LOTRO as an escape and not really dealing with our problems.

Of course, it isn't permanent and once we've managed to strike some balance in our personal lives, I have no doubt we'll both be back on LOTRO. :)

EDIT: Oh btw, good job Proto. Only roof I've managed to get on was the Prancing Pony.

I want to join their ride!" and as we go more will follow until we're riding up on the black gate itself with a legion so mighty our computers will be crying from the amount of lag that they are experiencing. So a friend of mine told me about this superhero MMO that became free recently and I downloaded it. City of Heroes I think. Reminded me that I haven't played LotRO in a while and I logged on earlier today.

Apparently Greysought has been disbanded. Man, I got super depressed. We were awesome! What the crap happened?

Isengard released recently. Anybody still playing get that?

Agent Proto

Yeah, I didn't think the kin would disband, but apparently it did because most of the members (Jiro, Lynx, and Værn) were inactive for so long. Then came your absence. First Shadowdust left to rejoin his original kin, then I decided to leave to join an awesome kin where I've been designated successor to be its leader. Since Greysought was lacking in members, or ceased to exist, you are welcomed to join my new kin. If I ever catch you online, I'll send an invite for you.

Edit: Yeah, I got the update and now Monster Play is free to play. You should check that out

I'm mostly interested in Isengard for the sole fact that it's freaking Isengard! What's Monster Play about anyways? I always assumed it was skirmishes as an orc.

You should check out City of Heroes if you haven't already. It's pretty legit. I made an Autobot! Unfortunately, though, I can't play the damn game for more than a half an hour at a time as my computer becomes an emotional wreck. I've settled for Champions Online, which is very cheesy but runs pretty alright. I'll try and make it back to LotRO within the next few days. Yeah, sorry about that. I thought about sending a kin e-mail but it never seemed like anyone was on so I went to a new kin that me and my ex-wife created. I'm still there but it isn't much better off than Greysought since we were the only two members. xD She ended up taking her Hunter off of our new kin and sent it back to Evermore so I guess I'm the leader now.

LOTRO is more awesome than ever. They made some changes to the Champion and now that class is incredibly better. I can actually tank with my champ now. :D Got my champ up to 62 so far and I'm almost ready to start Mirkwood. I'm in the final chapter of Moria. I can't wait to get to Isengard! :D
