:mad2::mad2::mad2:

Why do I have to deal with this junk every day of my college career. It never works the way it should. It falls out of order whenever the fuck it wants. It has a mind of it's own.

I was pulling an A in my Ethnicity class this semester. That is, until Blackboard decided it was okay to delete some of my scores. My grade fell to a D. My teacher surprised me one day with an email saying "please contact me so we can work out a way to make sure you pass my class." wtf? Anyway there "was no way to prove" that I even had those scores, so she gave me 0s for all those quizzes and assignments. Right I'll be lucky to pull a C.

But of course, she's decided to make sure we all turn in out final assignments on Blackboard, so it's decided to take a :bou: once again. "You didn't turn in your assignment".

"Uhh, yeah I did." *sends .jpg saying the assignment was submitted Apr 24.*

She tells me to go to the technology center to see if they can make it work. They got it to work. Why can't she??

So I'll probably end up failing this class because my 70 year old professor cannot operate a technology that is a faulty piece of :bou:e in the first place.

Why can't we just use regular ways to do assignments? What's wrong with typing and printing an essay??

Do you hate Blackboard too??? :hot::hot::hot:

That's weird. I've used blackboard for many classes and never had a problem with it. It must just hate you or something. :(

She won't let you E-Mail the assignments to her? Or just print them out and give her hard copies?

No and she has a good reason not to: she's a stupid bitch.

Do it anyway and talk to the head of the department, and if the technology center can get blackboard to work properly then you have proof that the work is submitted.

You are paying for this class, and if you do all the work you deserve the credit for completion.

I never had a problem with Blackboard. Hell, I took a lot of online classes and never had a problem.

I get you on stupid bitch teachers though. My ASL III teacher graded you based on how worthy she felt you were on becoming a part of Deaf culture. And she wasn't even a Deaf person herself. xP

I've never had a single problem with Blackboard before. I'm sorry it's so fucked up for you. :(

It works for me perfectly fine*. It's my hardcopies that mysteriously go missing.

*Except when it frequently crashes, but then everybody suffers, not just me.

I'm surprised you've never had it fuck up on you. Once every couple of days there's someone complaining about it on Facebook, and we all go to different universities.

the only problem I've ever had with blackboard is that either teachers use it inefficiently or occasionally it's down

I've never used blackboard and thought this was a thread about actual blackboards, and I was excited to share my favourite blackboard story! I'll do it anyway though. In one of my classrooms, the blackboard was actually just the wall painted black with a wooden frame around it! Yeah, it didn't work very well.

I hate fucking Blackboard.

One time I took a test and I saved EVERYTHING. I saved after every question.

It still timed out. And it still LOST EVERYTHING I HAD ON THE TEST.

Fuck Blackboard!

I believe the correct term is "Chalk Board".

I never had a problem with Blackboard. Had a problem in that Reading didn't think I existed, but that got fixed after a couple days.

Dude this is a far superior topic, I remember we used to have these big roller type white boards and one panel would still be a chalk board. I remember in detention we once drew penises on to the white boards in permanent marker (the good type the ones what require a bottle of meths to clean off) and on the blackboard panel we drew a full on pornographic image in wax crayon...teacher got forced to use the blackboard next day, everything they wrote kept on getting messed up by the wax and when they rubbed it all off the chalk dust highlighted the image xD was epic. Teacher got in :bou::bou::bou::bou:, we all got about 3 weeks worth of detention. Ahh to be in year 9 again!

Edit: Justy, if you have the coursework at home, if you have some evidence that you submitted the work then appeal the "fail" grade which is in your legal rights to do so. Essentially you'll go through a tribunal to get your grade and will have to prove the lecturer was incompetent and your work needs re-assessing. It's not an easy route to go down, but it's worth it at times.

If you have any proof that you actually did the work, you have to pursue that. It's not fair that you put forth the effort and were snubbed because of a technical error.

It's a no lose situation. You've failed at this point. If you try and they don't listen, you've still failed.

If you can prove it, you'll get your grades back. Also, they'll know Blackboard is flawed and hopefully take actions to fix it or not depend on it. Since you hate Blackboard, it's nice bonus.

Good luck! I hope you get this worked out.

In my course, depending on which professor was the unit coordinator for a particular unit of study, they'd either make everything online submission or everything handed in personally. I found it pretty annoying when I got mixed up and logged on an hour before the due time and found that I had to race into uni to physically hand in my essay, but I guess your story is the other side of the coin. My professors were always adamant that if they didn't feel confident using the technology to access our assignments and grades, they wouldn't use it.

I actually really like Blackboard, except when teachers don't know how to use it!

We just use both  Blackboard is an electronic record that we handed it in, plus it has the plagiarism detector, and the hardcopy is easier to mark or something.

Not a hassle, you have like a week leeway with the online submission.

I bet you're regretting that you said asl?

Anyway, I abhor blackboard and any form of internet-based submission program. Here's another similar issue: I was once in a program for a college that required that we enroll for all courses online. Not all at the same time, mercifully, but in blocks of surnames. Like A-F or something.

That was still enough to completely crash the servers. Even at the college intranet. Even if you had the entire :mad2::(:D:roll2ING FORM FILLED OUT AND JUST HAD TO CLICK :D:mad2::mad::(ING SUBMIT AFTER THE TIME PASSED

Newsflash you moronic school - if your server cannot handle something do not start blaming me for it. I had to deal with the most ridiculous course schedules invented just because of that. Who the hell takes an 8am class only to :mad2::( off in the toilet for 8 hours because it's a waste of money to commute home in the interim?

I hate school. @Yarbles - you said the systems team was able to fix your one error. Did you pursue your other labs, quizzes and assignments?

Once someone covered a crayon in chalk dust and left it near the chalk board and when the teacher used it it wouldnt come off.

My online submissions always go through and a lot of my units ask for hard copies as well as online submission.

Infact on the other end of the spectrum one of my lecturers is the most out dated dinousaur and demands we hand in our final lab reports hand written in an exercise book, everything (including diagrams) in pen, no whiteout and no sticking in printed pages or handing in a neatly typed up bounded report.

Oh and he has the audacity to say "It should be something of profesional quality you would hand in at a workplace" FUCK OFF I WOULDNT WRITE IN A FUCKING EXERCISE BOOK AT A WORKPLACE.

I'd still be appealing that grade first if I were you. You said you had a .jpg showing that one of your assignments was submitted but later disappeared right? If so, that, plus the fact that you actually have completed all of the assignments (assuming they were things you have a copy of anyway) should make a pretty compelling case that you got ganked by the software. If it was assignments done directly in blackboard (ie: multiple choice quizzes and such) then it may be a bit more difficult to prove, but being able to prove it fucked up once should be enough to cast doubt, especially if you did well on everything it did keep a record of. I'd still make a point of complaining loud and often though so that if nothing else they knew it happened.

As for blackboard, it was implemented in my school during my last year of my degree, despite having some issues (never anything as severe as this personally), it was a dramatic improvement over what my University used before.
