As the title says, are there any gaming challenges you hate doing but feel compelled to complete because if you don't then you'll be unhappy because it is incomplete? I ask this because I am at the moment going through CoD Black Ops on Veteran difficulty. I hate the story of Black Ops, it's ridiculous taking place from 61 through to around 80 - 85. Doing it on Veteran means I will be redoing sections of the game over, over and over again until I finally either shoot myself, destroy my 360 or else otherwise go insane with rage at it. However considering I am now fighting my way through Vietnam having just gotten past Hue city escape scene I will say I find myself intrinsically drawn to the fact that now I have begun to play the game on it's hardest settings I must continue on with it until I complete it on the hardest settings.

One thing I find ridiculous with this amongst others is that Treyarch force a certain style of gun play to the fore. In CoD's MW series enemies are finite in any area. Sure there may be a ton of them but they will eventually cease to spawn, though if there is a time limit on the mission taking the time to let this occur is often impossible on the higher settings (here's looking at you CoD 4 storm the nuclear silo in 10 minutes on Veteran) In Black Ops there are certain points of the game (there is a corridor on Executive Order and the hill at Khe Sangh for example) where the enemies spawn infinite times. This is annoying as my general style of play seems to be the cautious type for the most part only performing rush attacks if the mission absolutely calls for it so sitting back, picking off enemies and whitling their numbers down is my style but Treyarch make it impossible to do so.

I hate this challenge but I can't stop doing it to myself!

So as a topic, share your own gaming experiences where it isn't always fun but you're unable to quit on it.

I don't really do challenges I don't like unless I really want the award given. I won't do it just for the sake of doing it unless it's literally the only thing left to do xD

Getting to the lowest level of an endgame weapon on Disgaea, and adding the most highest level +attack specialists to it that it can hold. This task alone... Can take around 500 hours.

Pretty much all the achievements that can't be earned through normal gameplay.

I do them all. I'm a damn completionist.

Then do it again for the rest of your party members.

Lots. Like, lots. Most recently, getting a platinum trophy in Just Cause 2 a couple of months ago. The platinum flashed on screen after so much playing and I hated myself for it.

Also, I feel compelled to finish nearly every game I start. It's really a sickness. Lately I've gotten into the habit of outright deleting save games so that I don't feel compelled to put the time in to see them through to the end.

^ This fits me to a tee...

The two most obnoxious in recent memory is beating Yiazmat in XII, which was just plain tedious and always feeling compelled to collect all of Rydia's summons in any FFIV game. Hell, in the DS version I've just begun the insane task of trying to get the Onion Gear which is only amusing cause I've never had the patience to try and acquire the Pink Tail. Though to be honest, just trying to do a 100% completion of this game is pretty obnoxious cause their are tons of rare items most players will never see cause they are a 1% drop from enemies.

Going back to FFXII, getting the Tournesol or any of the "Ultimate equipment" is a pain in the ass. I've yet to complete it but in my new playthrough, I'm actually trying to do a 100% game.

In Mirror's Edge, I promised myself I would never kill an enemy and was even spurred on when I discovered you get an Achievement for doing this. This has made the game really obnoxious as well...

Completing the Compendium in any MegaTen game, its manageable in Persona titles but in the main games, its a bit of a nightmare that will end up you going on long quests to amass money or even worse... getting cursed. If you've played Nocturne, you know damn well what I mean.

Getting two of the Ultimate spells/skills in the original Grandia is a pain in the ass cause one of them requires getting water and fire magic to lv.99, By the end of the game, you might be at lv.15 by playing naturally for these elements, good luck.

Any attempt at getting 100% completion in an NIS game. This development team pretty much killed my completionist streak. This is the only game on the list you won't hear me completing cause trying to get maxed stats for weapons and characters is more of a sign I have no life than an accomplishment.

Ouch!

I recently completed Nightmare difficulty of Dragon Age II. It was one of the most painful experiences I've had recently, largely because there's no concept of balance with the difficulty for the most part. When I want difficulty in an RPG, I tend to aim for the type that encourages careful management of my party, proper preparation, and patience rather than blind luck. Maybe throw in a healthy dose of trial and error. Some battles in the game managed to meet these requirements. The High Dragon optional boss in Act III, for example, was exactly the type of thing I was looking for. The Rock Wraith boss at the end of Act I, on the other hand, was well as a number of other optional bosses near the end of the game, were a lot more about blind luck than actual difficulty. When a boss can kill your entire party (which was very well equipped within two seconds of spawning, that's not hard, that's stupid.

Yeah when I heard these kind of estimations I remembered why I'm not completing Disgaea.
