- My personal favorite is that you can steal a third Memento Ring from Wrexsoul during the fight with him in Cyan's dream.

- During the battle with Dream and Girl (the last tier before Kefka) you can steal a Ragnarok and an Atma Weapon (don't remember which is from which). You don't get a chance to save after doing this, but you can equip them for your fight with Kefka.

- You can steal a Megalixir from the Master Pug/Master Tonberry.

- You can steal Elixirs from the Peepers enemy, found on the Solitary Island. Steal quick, they're ready to keel over dead.

- In Owzer's House (in Jidoor), there's a room with floating chests. The painting in the center of the room becomes a monster if you check it. This monster ("Still Life") has a Fake Mustache. If you missed it, it does appear on the Veldt, so you can technically have 99 Fake Mustaches if you really really want them.

Samurai Soul has Cyan's second strongest weapon as a rare steal but he's encountered in a single chest in the Ancient Castle. Course beating the Red Dragon might be easier...

Hidon has a Thornlet as a rare item

Holy Dragon has the Holy Lance as Rare steal, he can be encountered unlimited times on the Veldt.

Just about every monster in Kefka's Tower has a decent item but you can probably find most of them before getting to this point. The bosses on the other hand, have mostly really awesome stuff. The Three Statues each have a pretty awesome steal. Doom has Safety Bit, Goddess has Minerva Bustier, and Poltergeist has Red Jacket.

Are you sure? Every source I've checked says its possible to steal the Minerva Bustier from them. Maybe it's a rare item.

I saw that on GameFAQs too.

The source I checked was the game itself...I ran an emulator on 30x speed, with Gogo and Locke at Level 99, repeatedly opening the chest and having them steal each turn. I tried it for a half an hour, actually...still only Dried Meat.

I have stole the Minerva Bustier from the three tonberries in the Narshe cave where you get the yeti. It takes some time but it is possible in the psx version. Afterwards you can also find them on the veldt although I don't think you get a rage for them which is odd.

Locke is a sucky ass Thief. Even with Sneak Ring on it still takes a while to steal anything from an enemy.

He's better than Edge will ever be. Actually, if you gear Locke for speed he's a pretty good thief. Besides, VII is the last FF where Steal is not a guaranteed ability (until XI and XII that is) so its not like VIII, IX, and X where steal is guaranteed to work most of the time on the first use, or IX where Zidane literally has a 100% chance of always getting the common item and its the rare item he has to spend several rounds to acquire cause it success chance is the same as old school FFs. :p

Somehow I knew half of those things. but I am still amazed from others than kefkas tower bosses. I was planning on raiding 8 of those "holy weapons" like ragnarok and the lightbringer thing. And only problem in locke is that he couldn't hit those tonberries so I didn't get minerva bustier. Oh well there is coliseum...

so lots to items to steal, after I uncurse that shield I will go get the master scroll and then spam thief knives into weapon slots. Btw anyone remember where to get the sniper eye?

I haven't played the newer versions. Now that we have more insight 99 of every item wouldn't make the game that less fun and challenging.

It's up to you to make it what you want however you can.

While playing this game I have tried to steal the Memento Ring while fighting with the Wrexsoul in the cyan’s dream. From master pug I had also stolen the Megalixir. On the solitary island you can also steal Elixirs but for this you have to be quick as the peepers enemy would cut you down as I got to stole after trying it for couple of times.
