I know some of you might tell me to go look at a walkthrough. but i don't want all the details of what to do in the game. just where the important or got to have gear weapons, armors, relics, and espers are.

right now i just finished the part where you get your first magicite in zozo.

i would also like some opinoins on how to level my characters with espers. i mean about the plus to stats that you get every level up with espers equipped.

i want to make terra a pure mage, and celes a hybrid mage/warrior. is this the best route to go?

i would also like to know things that must be stolen by locke to aqquire like the genji glove from the dragons in floating island...
oh and also the best times and locations/how to get optional characters.

any and all information is very usefull, thank you

optional characters are only available in the second half of the game, after the floating continent. BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE FLOATING CONTINENT there is an option to wait. You have to do this if you want shadow in the second half of the game.

As for stats, stamina is useless and if you plan on going to lvl99 then you'll reach approximately 9999 without hp boosting anyway

Also Sabin's Blitzes use the magic stat to calculate damage, not vigor/strength

Which version are you playing? In one instance this makes a difference.

Anyway, you'll want the Ultima/Atma weapon which you will get in the World of Balance. You already know about the Genji Gloves with dragons, Econimizers can be stolen or won from the Brachiosaurs in the Dragon Forest late in the game and these can be bet at the Coliseum to obtain the Gem Box/Soul of Thamasa relic.

When you try to obtain Mog, there is a choice between him and a Relic that reduces MP consumption by 50%, if you are not playing the GBA version, then if you don't choose Mog, you'll lose out on one of his best Dances cause you can't get access to areas that grant it the next time you can recruit him.

In Mobliz, the injured soldier asks you to send letters for him. If you send the item he requested, he'll eventually reward you with a Tintinbar relic that restores HP as you walk.

If you are playing the SNES/PS1/Super Famicom ROM of VI, there is an island in the right corner of the map that looks like a triangle, in the first half of the game, you can fight a Behemoth monster called Intangir. He is really hard but in any version that isn't the GBA version, you can use Doom/Death to instantly kill him, though you will have to survive his Meteor counterattack. He nets you a good chunk of AP for teaching magic.

Also, don't sell the elemental swords, they can randomly cast spells and in the hands of characters like Terra and Celes who have naturally good stats in both strength and magic, these weapons can be devastating. There's even one that cast Break.

Most Espers are gained through either the story or from bosses. The only ones to watch out for, cause they are hard to miss, are the ones in the auction house, one that is being sold by a thief in a town, Odin and Raiden which involve using Figaro Castles submarine mode in a later part of the game to access. Crusader is pretty hard if you don' find and kill all the dragons. Also, if your game supports the Banish/Doom bug, never use it with Break or X-Zone instead. This causes the boss to not relinquish any items they may drop. Wrexsoul won't drop a Pod Bracelet if you use X-Zone on him, and Deathgaze/Doomgaze will not drop the Bahamut Magicite.

As for stat growth, as blackmage_nuke said, your characters will naturally go almost to max HP and MP so you can ignore those stat raising espers unless you don't plan on going to the highest levels but still want max stats. Stamina changes the effectiveness of poison and regen, as well as how well you resist instant death magic that isn't Blue Magic. There are relics for these things, and the game isn't very liberal in its usage of the spell so you can scratch that one off too.

Speed is great to level up but if you're not playing the GBA version, there is only one esper that grants this stat bonus (Odin) and he can be lost, cause this esper can get upgraded into a new form (Raiden) which grants a very rare spell but changes the speed stat growth to an MP one. If you're in the GBA version, you can pick up Cauctar which grants a better bonus than Odin does and doesn't have some silly upgrade thing.

Magic and Strength are your best bets, though several of the ultimate weapons and abilities will allow you to perform max damage without the aid of either stat being ridiculously high. The Ultima Weapon does damage based on your level and whether or not you have full HP or not, it already has the highest att. pwr. of all the weapons.

Sabin's Blitzes mostly use the Magic stat, Edgar's Tools use both, and Cyan's uses Strength mostly. Setzer uses the Magic for slots, Relm and Strago are strict mage characters. Mog is great melee character but his dances use magic stats.

I generally like to keep characters in their fields, so I tend to keep Terra and Celes in Red mage mode with equal raising of both magic and strength, though I tend to let each be slightly higher in one stat over the other. Beyond that, I let melee characters stay melee and mage characters stay magic. I try to add speed into both groups as well.

Also, past level 50, I believe it is, your characters stop gaining the normal stats, and only gain HP/MP stats, so at this point, the esper system is more important, cause its the only way characters can permanently gain Str, Mag, Stm, and Spd.

Overall, I feel the esper system is nice for keeping characters within roles in the game, but I feel your equipment and relics are more important in the long run.

Levelling up never raises your core stats, at any level. Only HP/MP increases with level ups. What a character's starting stats are is what they will still have at level 99 if you don't use espers. That's not to say your characters don't grow stronger, however. All attacks in the game, whether they be physical or magical, yours or the enemy's, use Level as a direct variable in damage output. The strength and magic stats just act as multipliers along with the Level stat to figure out damage dealt.

In short, you never need to use esper bonuses to increase your character's damage output as they level, and the game can be beaten just fine without ever getting any esper bonus stats. They just make your characters even stronger, and let you customize their growth.

EDIT: Hah, didn't realize you were Wolf Kanno. I'm not stalking you with FFVI corrections, honest!

using the snes version.

right now i just got the espers from zozo, so i would like to know the things that can be found near this part of the game. i don't want to miss anything good.

like what town is the theif at that sells an esper for 3000 gp? when can you get that?
also heard of some nice rare items can be found before floating island. what are those and what do i need to do, what shops are they at etc.

this game has so many awesome items, i don't want to miss out on the good ones.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

also where and how do i obtain both ultima and atma weapon in world of balance? what would be the suggested character level to pull that off?

Lol, its all cool, just got a name change for an event is all. Frankly, I can't believe I never noticed your party's stats never went up without espers. It certainly adds a bit more weight to their importance. Next time I'm bored, I should read more algorithm faqs it seems. :D

On topic:

The esper that is sold by a thief is in Tzen, he's kind of hidden in the trees in the northeast corner of the town. It doesn't become available until after you complete the Magitek Factory. The Auction House will open up as well by this point.

You will find the Atma Weapon in the Sealed Cave which a bit of a ways off in the game from where you are at. Its located on the Southern Continent close to the Imperial Capital of Vector. You won't have access to it until you have to go there for story purposes.

Its kind of easy to miss cause the dungeon involves a minor switch puzzle that opens up new paths for the character. Atma Weapon is located in a chest in a secret room opened up by hitting certain switches, you have to fight a Ninja boss, to get to it.

Atma Weapon is a unique weapon. It works very close to how Cloud's Ultima Weapon works in VII if that will help. Basically, the weapon has an attack power of 255 and it has the ability to ignore an enemies defense. It can't be used with Runic or other sword abilities. The damage for the weapon is determined very close to how the weapon is described to you by one of the NPCs in the game. Its power is a reflection of the wielders strength. It does damage based on the users level and how much HP they have compared to their maximum HP. So basically, at full HP, your character will do maximum damage for his level. If they take damage in a fight, the damage the weapon does is reduced, so keep the character healthy.

It can be equipped only by Terra, Locke, Celes, and Edgar without the aid of the relic Merit Award (which allows a character to equip any weapon), it also has an odd habit of needing to be manually equipped cause Optimize seems to ignore the weapon despite having the highest Attack Power in the game. The weapons true strength comes from its ability to ignore the damage penalties given by the relic Offering/Master Scroll. This relic allows a character to attack four times in a row, but the damage is halved, and each attack does less damage than the first. Atma/Ultima Weapon ignores this, which means it can do four hits for 9999hp when the character is around level 40+.

The cool thing about the blade, is its one of the few weapons that has a noticeable animation. Its appearance it like a lightsabre with an ornate golden hilt, and the blade length shows the users power. Ay first the weapon will have a blade length like a knife, but eventually the blade can grow to be roughly twice the length of the characters height.

From only skimming the posts I would agree with most of it. What we need to know from you is what you want out of the game.

You don't need to do everything like we have to enjoy or beat the game. You can easily beat it without magic and many of the good armors depending how you level.

Things you 'must' do that might be repeated by me. Get all the special characters at low level as possible. My personal was 13. Mog still joined at 15 so watch out.

That way you can equip Zoneseek and Tritoch early to get that high MagPwr. Or equip Odin early to get high speed. Speed and Magic are the only ones that technically need to be raised. I've never lost in a decade by neglecting the other two.

In this game you'll get over 9600 HP at level 99. And over 950 MP. Raising those in my version wasn't that important. I don't know how the HP/MP work in all versions.

Besides situations that only happen once in the game. Getting to the World of Ruin early is probably the most important aspect I can think of. After all this time. ;)

what i want out of the game right now, is to get the items ive neglected to get before. meaning all the shiny shiny secret ones. and the espers ive not had before on previous playthroughs. to me its fun to get new weapons ive not had before.

To be brutally honest it's not that important. Most of the great stuff like 90% of it is found in the World of Ruin. The first time through I missed many items and espers. I had to figure out Water Rongo on my own.

The items I will point to the FAQ for that since I don't know them all off the top of my head. I know some but... As for Espers, when you read the FAQ it's impossible to lose them in the World of Ruin.

There are a couple exceptions. If you upgrade Odin, and if you use X-Zone on Doomgaze. You won't be able to raise speed and you could lose Bahamut. Also, you'll get two choices about Ragnarok so choose wisely.

Raising the Speed stat is mostly useless, so I wouldn't recommend wasting too many, if any, levels on it. Even a huge Speed stat only increases the rate at which your bar rises by a tiny amount. Also, no matter how high you raise your speed, you'll never be getting multiple turns before the enemy gets one, so it's pretty much a pointless stat. I'd just raise some of the really slow characters like Cyan up to something in the 30's or 40, and be done with Speed.

Strength and Magic are the only two stats you want to focus the majority of your level ups on. Magic is more important than Strength, since many special moves use the Magic stat, and end-game spells are ridiculously powerful. Strength is certaintly never a waste to raise, though. There are still plenty of physical special attacks, and being able to do massive damage simply by using the Attack command is never bad.

Stamina...just forget it exists. And HP/MP you can spend a few levels somewhere in the 50's raising them to ensure you hit that magical 9999/999 max, but beyond that there's no reason to spend time trying to raise them.

But if you're more concerned about getting total item and esper completion, then don't even spend a second thought on stat raising with esper bonuses. It is absolutely not required to beat the game, and the game can be beaten easily without ever gaining any bonuses. The sole purpose of stat-raising is to raise your stats and say you did. That's it. If you're not the type of person who cares about stat-maxing in their games, don't bother with it here.

i know you don't need all the weapons to beat the game, but the point of a game is to have fun. and i like to collect all the useful and uber weapons and items as part of my fun for rpg's. i like collecting things and side quest's for weapons etc. thats how it has been for a long time.

i guess i can do some more googling about stuff. but i find it easier to ask people with experiance in the matter. but i can do both. thanks to all of you who have answered my questions, and i may have more questions in this thread.

i know about buying mass skeans for shadow, one of his most devasating throw option till you can throw atma weapon at kefka LOL

It's a personal preference what you procure and equip to your characters. We've already told you in a sense with Walk-throughs.

My personal favorites if that's what you're asking is displayed in my sig. It's not easy to know what should be equipped depending on how you beat the game.

The Ribbon does everything many others do. Discard amulets, star pendants, and such.
The Economizer makes the Gold Hairpin obsolete.
The helmets are tricky because you are limited on Genji Helmets. 5. The Green Beret and Red Cap is good early on. You might be equipping the circlet/crystal helmet mostly.
The Armors are more straightforward. Each character kinda gets a special armor. What would be left is Crystal Armor.
All the weapons are special. You will end up not using a bought weapon at level 99 in mine.
There's an argument that Thunder Shield beats Genji Shield in terms of resisting elements. Besides Paladin Shield and one other I'm not thinking of right now, those are the only shields you need.

Hope this helps.

just got done with the magitek labs, realized after looking at a walkthrough i missed the dragoon boots, zepyr cape, blizzard, and break blade..

i might have to restart the game to get these now :(

i followed a walkthrough on youtube expecting them to go through all the items in the dungeon, well i guess i was wrong after looking at a walkthrouhg txt on gamefaqs..

any way i can get those items listed back? or are they not that usefull, break blade sounds like a powerful item, and i heard dragoon boots somehow make mog stronger, the gold armors shields and helmets im not worried about. but the boots , cape, and blizzard i may be screwed on.

was also wondering of there were any youtube walkthroughs that don't miss any usefull items, and show who to steal from etc. kind of like a walkthrough that shows where to get all the items that can be missable.

ive read the missable item faq, but its a headache to keep checking over and over. video walkthroughs are better at showing how to get to secret rooms ala magitek factory.

You can steal Thunder Shields from Stereodites in Kefka's Tower and bet them in the Coliseum for Genji Shields, so feel free to experiment with both and see if one works better for you. (i.e. you technically have an unlimited supply of both)

i need help for an ideal group setup and tactics for staying on the floating island long enough to steal 3 more genji gloves from the dragons, i have lock equipped with theifs glove and genji glove so he can do two captures in a row.(i know sounds like an eternity right?) its going to be a survivability thing, even if i have to keep my healers in mp by buying mass amounts of tinctures( spelling?)

espritduo

You can exit the Floating Continent and go back to the airship once you get far enough into it. so there's no reason to worry about stocking up on items. There's a point where you see the airship floating below you and you're given the option to return if you want. Don't worry about losing Shadow on return trips, since he'll be waiting for you back at the beginning again every time you come back.

Also, all the items you missed on the M-Tek Research facility can either be bought or stolen later in the game, so you don't have to worry if you missed them.

The Genji Glove is also perfectly obtainable in unlimited quantities via Morph later in the game, so you shouldn't waste too much time trying to steal them from Dragons. Besides, you get enough Genji Gloves normally throughout the game to equip everyone in your current party if you want.

And you can't fight the Intangi in the WoR(except on the Veldt, if you encountered him in the WoB), so you have to beat him now. He's not really a "powerful" enemy, so much as a gimmick enemy. Know how he moves, and you can take him out with little trouble. He used to be easy as pie in the older versions where you could kill him while invisible with spells like Doom and such, but in the Advance version you have to slog all the way through his 32,000 HP the hard way.

well I'm at the point where you have the banquet with ghestall. I tried getting 24 people talked to, but got 21 and had about a minute and a half left, with no clue where to go for the last few people.

anyone know of a youtube video that shows the fastest way to talk to all 24 people?

i have a walkthrough that covers the questions, so that part is easy. its just getting those 24 people.

OMG :( i keep getting 21 people, I'm missing a 3 soldiers somewhere...

Flying Mullet
07-22-2011, 12:34 PM
Start by talking to the personal guards in the banquet hall (can't remember if they count), then talk to the guards outside the banquet hall. Next I head down, outside the front of the palace to talk to the guards outside. Don't talk to Guardian (If you can), you'll get in a fight you can't win and will waste time running away. Once back inside, I usually work my way around in a clock-wise manner, going into the room on the lower left. This is a treasure room and I can't remember if there is a guard inside. The room upstairs is next and don't forget to talk to the guard in the bathroom. Next I go outside upstairs, talking to the guards out there, including the guard up in the control room at the very top of the palace. Then head back inside on the right, going into the upper room on the right to talk to the guards/people there. There is an exit to a bathroom in the lower-left side of the back room with someone in it as well.

That should be 24 people. Don't bother talking to Kefka in jail, he's a waste of time with no count towards people. You can check him out once you hit your 24 people.

Hopefully this helps.

i have no ribbons what so ever, and need to know what things to look out for now.

btw love the lets play final fantasy IV from dario, his vocal mannerisms and style are great. ive seen some other lets play for this game and the others could get on my nerves. i had shadow survive the floating continent.

my main concern is ribbons now.

You really won't be able to acquire Ribbons easily until you recruit Locke back, but he's actually one of the trickier characters to get back, cause you need to make two teams to traverse the dungeon he is in. While you don't necessarily need complete four man teams, it helps.

Afterwards, you get a Ribbon from Locke and you can return to the same dungeon you found him in with your party to get more Ribbons by stealing them from the bird enemies. Though, if you recruit Gogo, you can give him the steal command and have him try his luck when you go get Locke.

For now, getting the airship should be your priority, when you get to the dungeon its in, make sure to solve the grave puzzle, cause it nets you an Exp. Egg which doubles XP for that character in battle.

espritduo
07-29-2011, 07:09 AM
You should have a Ribbon already from Locke's scenario waaaaay back during the WoB. It's in the hidden room in the underground passageway, where Locke rescues Celes. It's still there in the WoR, so stop what you're doing, go back to South Figaro and get that Ribbon. There's also another hidden room off of the hallway where Locke first sees Celes that has a Hyper Wrist and Running Shoes, if you haven't already gotten them.

But really, Ribbons aren't important. You don't need four Ribbons equipped on everyone at all times, and there are plenty of better relics to use. I would focus on getting the really good relics, and not worry about Ribbons so much.

And the bird enemy in Phoenix Cave(Aquila) does not have Ribbons to steal. It has an Economizer to steal as a rare steal, but the enemy itself is rare as well, and you're better off getting both Ribbons(steal) and Economizers(win) off of Brachiosaurs in the Dragon Forest. You'll be spending plenty of time levelling there anyways, so you'll have all the Ribbons you can stomach.

i watch through so i don't miss anything important.

i also try and take breaks of several days after a good play session so i don't get what i call burnout syndrome. i seem to get it and when i have it, i can't play any kind of game what so ever i just walk in circles and turn the game off.

i wish i did not have to deal with this burn out deal. but i'm getting in the mood to play again soon.
at the veldt cave right now, and someone in the comments of that video session by dario said he missed a very good weapon in the veldt cave that was in a hidden room. might have been sabins best?

not sure where to go on that, cause the hidden rooms in this game are tricky to find if you don't know where and when to look..

on another note, when i finaly get mog back

what is the way to play him, where you get the most damage? i have countless dragoon boots from stealing from a certain monster. truth is when i have locke in my party everything that moves gets stolen from if i can pull it off.

back to mog, i heard the bangle you get from the banquet was his second best relic? but i messed it up and did not get the relic for him. even though it seems i got 24 soldiers, but must have answered one of the questions wrong. but he withdrew troops from figaro, doma, and let me into the store room for the imperial base.

so what would i want to gather for mog, or be able to gather for him in the WoR to make him worth the party slot.

my favorite party members are shadow>locke>mog>terra . so if i can keep that group since they are my favorite characters. my days left playing this game would be bliss.

are you still able to buy skeans (fire, water, lightning) and shurikens for shadow in WoR?

keep watching this thread folks you might learn something too :) as i tend to ask a barrel full of questions every post. what i learn can also give other new or old players of this game
alike new knowledge.

also..?? forum change?

Mog only has one relic for him specifically which is called the Moogle Charm (Molulu Charm in GBA) which removes all random encounters, its located right behind where he was standing when you recruited him. Other than that, the best set up for Mog can go two ways. If you want to take advantage of his Dance skills, then slap an esper that gives MAG bonuses. He's actually a pretty good mage in the game so there is that route. If you want melee, the best bet is to give him the Aura Spear (In the Final Dungeon if memory serves me correct) and give him the Dragoonboots and Dragon Horn relics. Spears do 2x damage with the Jump command just like regular Dragoons in the earlier titles. The Dragon Horn allows the Jump command to do multiple strikes, its almost like the Offering Relic (Master Scroll GBA) except it works exclusively for the Jump command. With this set up, its pretty easy to get Mog to do several jump hits for 9999hp damage.

Also, as you may have noticed, neither strategy works against the other so its possible to go both routes. The damage from different modifiers with the spear/jump command makes it easy to never need to raise STR, so just leveling with MAG will still net you maximum damage.

Skeans can still be bought in the WoR, I think Thamasa sells them as well as a few other towns. Also... while you have a nice choice for a final party, don't forget to level everyone else, the final dungeon is like the Phoenix Cave except with three teams. ;)

so i just got done with the cave of the veldt. as shadow i mainly spam shurikens, unless I'm in a tough battle i use skeans if i find a element that hits hard. I notice that ninja stars sell for about 500 and they say they are used with the thrown command. I'm guessing those do more damage than the shurikens.

Right now i want to find an all around good place to level up so i can stock up on ninja stars and other usefull items.
right now my party's level ranges from 31-34. what would be a good place for that level range that (i don't mind tough as long as i don't wipe every battle) is good for gp and magic points if applicable. yes i have the exp egg. decided to slap it on sabin along with earrings since his blitz use magic hit for damage.

sad thing is i forgot water rondo, but i planned on using the spear, dragoon boots and dragon horn getup on mog though.

and another thanks to anyone who helps contribute to this thread. keeps the place alive :D

Some things you might have missed is enemies that only appear in 1 shot places. There is a bomb on the ghost train, Ingari (Sp?) on triangle island, as well as some others listed in the world of ruin. The gameboy version is best to find all enemies cause there is a bestiary in the menu. Fighting every enemy is good only if you want to take the ultimate challenge of the game. Rages.

Some important items you can get require you to complete ever side quest available. There is a man sleeping in a bed where you have to send letters and check on him to get a really good relic.

A lot of the earlier chests in the game will hold different items if you skip them the first time and come back later in the storyline. Mostly noted the ones up until South Figaro. This is how you can get a ribbon in the World of Balance early on.

Strago has a lore ability where someone who is not using him regularly would miss. The best can be found from bosses in the final dungeon.

If you like treasure hunting them you should get the Ragnorak esper rather then the sword, but the sword is the best one in the game next to Atma Weapon. With the esper though you will be able to turn enemies into items in battle.

A good leveling up area would be a little north of the Veldt and east where a forest in the shape of a t-rex head is. On lower levels you should equip the Exp egg on and walk around the forest with three characters stoned. Have the proper esper equip and watch your stats fly. When you get to mid levels you should try out the forest itself as that is the best leveling up spot in the game.

All enemies in the game can be found on the veldt bar some bosses. This will allow a great day with Locke and the ragnorak esper. It is also a place where you can learn spells with no level gains. This makes sure you save your levels for stat boost and have the greatest spells learned fast. The other great places to gain AP is the tower where you find Stargo, or the desert where you can fight cataurs.

Sorry I can't add all the information, it's been a while since I played and have been focused on other games.

i know i got the beast on triangle island WoB intangir. i just used dispell to get his vanish taken away and was ablt to wallop , still died. so i did doom on him while he was hidden (on vanish) which insta killed him.

should he be on the WoR Veldt now? what kinds of deaths deny rewards like veldt appearance or items like x-zone does on snes? uses the snes ffIII version btw again.

should i worry about equiping the break sword or soul sabre? would i miss out rewards like said above if they kill?.

every time i try and use optimum on terra it allways (with genji glove) equips both man eater and break sword lol.

i love putting my genji gloves on both terra and celes.

and when i get a third i might have locke use it.

another good question is what is the best setup for locke when i aim to steal something rare?

would it be genji glove with the theifs cuff to have two steal chances? and extra damage?

or should it be some other relic along with the sneak ring?

or should i just use capture with sneak ring and theifs cuff for a single steal chance?

thank you sora, i love the way you list your answers, really easy to understand and remember!

and again, expect more questions lol. it keeps the forum alive a bit.

and yet again thanks to anyone who contributes!!! :D

ok i read on another guide that the aura lance and pearl lance are mogs ideal weapons, pearl said as best.
i've also done searching (again I'm using the snes version) and can not find where the pearl lance is. whats the peal lances name on the snes version and where is it? i found that aura lance is only gotten from one of the bosses in kefkas tower, so that means only final boss fun with it.

i hope i can get the pearl lance before kefkas tower

////////////////////////////////
wracking my brainpan on this one, found out you can bet one of the steals you can get from katana soul in the coliseum to get teh pearl(holy lance)

been searching and all the youtube videos i find of the boss show its a monster in the box, none have voice commentary i can find that says where the boss is.

(why i love some of the {lets play} voice commentary).

i know the katana soul drops the offering aswell. so maybe that might narrow it down D: i just pray its not a one way trip aka kefkas tower, or something i might have missed :((

The process of figuring out which weapon is best for that character can become your own choice. If you want to go with the strongest you can do custom but if you don't like those weapons you can switch them out with lower powered weapons. As long as the weapons cause decent damage you are good. Beware of using instant death weapons on undead. It will only make the monster disappear and reappear. This can get annoying, such as doom darts in a certain tomb...

Once you get a weapon I think it is called the thief knife, you can have two characters steal. So having two of those knifes on Terra, and Locke with any of the set ups you listed, you will be able to steal four times the normal rate if you had terra and locke with the genji gloves. I made time on my last playthrough getting a genji glove for every possible character in the game from those dragons in the floating island. They were my favorite. :D

As for the best set up for Locke, during your game you could have Thief cuffs and Genji gloves which would probably insure you a steal during a battle if you boost his speed and give him a turn.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think the pearl lance is on the tower where you get strago. It should be behind one of the chests. I think maybe the second door you see going up it.

If it is the Katana soul who drops it and he drops the offering, then I am pretty sure he is a one shot guy. The Gem box and Offering are one time only relics in the SNES and PS1 versions.

If someone sees something wrong please continue to correct and help this person out. I have said it once and I'll say it again, it's been a real long time since I played the game.

offering is won by killing katana soul without running (monster in a box) so that's good to know
says also GEM BOX is at the top of the fanatics tower that strago is in, but mentions no boss, or steal or specifics. one shot on snes? if its not a boss? someone explain please :O

i would also like some more clarification on some things for someone who has a fresher memory or hard fact about the snes version questions asked by me. especialy about the pearl lance on fanatics tower since the link i posted says nothing about it in the "quote un quote miss-able items list" so is that not a one shot?

There is a boss fight, but its actually located on a chest on the top floor that is guarded by the boss. He's not terribly difficult but make sure you have Life 3 cast on your party at all times.

The Pearl Lance (Holy Lance in GBA) is the prize for beating the Pearl Dragon (Holy Dragon) who is located in one of the rooms on the tower. While you can encounter him again on the Veldt (one of a few bosses that show up on the Veldt) he only gives you the item when you beat him in the Fanatics Tower encounter. It is possible to acquire another one by betting Cyan's Strato sword in the Colesium, he can acquire two of them by beating the Red Dragon in the Phoenix Cave or having someone steal it off the Samurai Soul in the Ancient Castle.

You don't need stoned characters, all you need to do is make a party of one from the airship and have the character cast vanish on themselves. The enemies won't be able to touch you, except for the Crawlers who do have a magic move that will knock you out of Vanish state and hurt you pretty bad. As long as you only walk on the green grassy parts of the map you won't encounter them.

If you are looking for magic mastering, fight Cauctars and Hoovers in the desert near Maranda.

fanatics tower? what is a good level range for this? and is this one of the multi team dungeons?

Level is not as important as much as what magic you have. The Fanatics Tower only allows for magic to be used, so you'll definetly want the level 3 versions of the elemental spells and moves like Meteor or better yet, Ultima. Also, Rasp and Osmose will carry you through the dungeon very easily cause the enemies will actually die if you drain all their mp, so you may not even need to the fancy spells. Though Life 3 is imperative if you want to get the Gem Box. Having Zone Seeker and Carbuncle as summons will also greatly help.

The reason for the three stoned party members is for two reasons.

1. They take damage for you instead most of the time, so you will be able to go longer without needing to heal.

2. Sleeping bags are cheaper then tents and that is all you will need while leveling up 1 member at a time.

Actually there is other reasons,

3. Your one and only fighter will reap the rewards and get 4x the Exp the usual cause the others are stoned.

4. Having one exp egg means you will only need to equip that and with one member you will get 8x the usual exp cause it is not split.

5. You will have all the espers and equipment at top tier while you slash all the enemies. This will allow great use with little to no hassle of changing espers between all the members.

How much do you want to look up before playing the game? Back when I first played I kinda didn't have that luxury. If you manage to find the Moogle Charm on your own like I did it makes Fanatic's Tower and Phoenix Cave that much easier. You'll need to get Mog for it too. It will help get some treasures without fighting.

actually i have played final fantasy 3 many times before, always getting to the WoR and either getting overwhelmed by the fact i have no clue what order to do things, or where to go. or i just keep getting slaughtered in WoR dungeons and getting frustrated giving up, and wiping the save because i realize i don't have some items , magic, rages etc that i (key phrase here) want to get.

so i started acting questions in here about things i wanted to know, or things that bugged me till i found the answer to.

^I'm sorry but that's more effort than just making a character invisible and soloing the battlefield with the same equipment set-up. With Vanish status, enemies in the area can't really hit you with anything so you don't have to worry about getting attacked, as long as you avoid the Crawler enemy but overall you get the same result as the three stoned party set-up. You don't even need to know Vanish, you can just use the Phantom summon and get the effect. Less grinding already. :D

Casting break on 3 members is far less time consuming then casting vanish or summoning Phantom. Sure you may have trouble at first but once the deed is done it is very easy. When you bring out four members from the airship make sure they are the ones you want to level up. Then do the break trick and level one member up to level 99. Next battle, unequip everything and cure one member then cast break on the level 99. Kill, and equip. It beats casting summons or spells to level 99 and then going to the ship, grabbing a new person, then repeat. In the end it is up to the player.

The vanish status actually stays in effect until you visit an inn or have the character hit with magic (including healing spells and even in the menu) so you only need to do it once, and with using Phantom, you don't need to worry about teaching anyone the Vanish spell.

Its far less time consuming imo.

well i did some more things, got shadow back in my grasp after visiting the coliseum. for fun i bet a potion, and i get chupon every time and he allways sneezes LOL. going to mt zozo next.
going to use a strange party though for me anyways. shadow, sabin, setzer, gau.

i don't use gau and setzer much in Wor, but they need exp and levels. gau mainly because i did not do much time in the WoR veldt to gain rages. I know for a fact ive fought and beaten intangir in WoB.

so all my party members are in lower 30's for level.

rage questions. for my level ranges what monsters should i try and hunt down so they appear in the veldt. and where exactly would they be?

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

ok so only magic works in fanatics tower? well some of sabins blitz do magic damage, so would bum rush, air blade or fire dance work in fanatics tower?

also i think i would use terra, celes, relm, and not sure who else i think would work well in fanatics tower?

what party members besides the three i listed that can have high magic stats would work in fanatics tower?

Mog is pretty good, as well as Strago. Gogo isn't a bad choice either, since his spell list is what ever is available in the party.

Beating Chupon is one of the more amusing challenges in the game, although fighting Siegfried is a bigger challenge cause he can outright murder you if you are not prepared.

There's all kinds of opinions out there like it really isn't the same game once you have the airship in the WoR. If you are a first-time player it depends how much you want to research ahead of time.

If you want excitement and mystery don't look ahead. The game gets easier if you level. It also depends on main factors like the order you do the adventure and what characters you use. Are you prepared?

If you live the mystery you become more cautious and open-minded to discover the unknown imo. If you've looked ahead then you're simply gathering bits of pixels on some emulator and/or electronic device of some kind.

Have fun with whatever you choose I think I'm running out of advice here.

You can only use the Magic command in the Fanatic's Tower. Anything that isn't an actual magic spell under the Magic command is completely disabled, whether it is magic-based damage or not. So no Blitzes, no Dances, no Lores, no nothing except straight Magic spells. Also, if you want to use Gogo in the Fanatic's Tower, make sure you give him the Fight command. The weird thing about the way the tower works is that it converts your Fight command into the Magic command, and removes all other commands. This means that even if you give Gogo the Magic command, it will still be removed along with all other abilities besides Fight.

Also, you can get infinite Pearl Lances from the Holy/White Dragon by stealing them. It's a rare steal, but you always fight the dragon at the end of the Veldt cycle, so it's not hard to encounter again and again.

And forget about using Tumbleweeds to level. That's a waste of time in the long run. Use Cactuars and Hoovers(kill them instantly with Death) while you're still learning magic, and once you've learned your magic and levelled up to around 40 or 50, move onto the Dragon Forest and fight Tyranosaurs until you hit level 99. Tumbleweeds are small fry, and are nowhere near the best enemies for experience farming, even in groups of four. And if you want to go the one-person party route, you can just brute force your way through battles. No need for all the fancy Stoning and Vanishing. You should have more than enough gil to buy thousands of Tents after training on Cactuars and Hoovers, so there's no reason to concern yourself with maintaining your HP and MP while grinding. And just spamming Ultima or Offering+Genji Glove will destroy any random battle without any need to concern yourself with fancy and unneccesary survival strategies.

Wolf Kanno
08-04-2011, 10:23 AM
I disagree about power-leveling. The solo/exp. egg set up against the Tumbleweeds nets you a good chunk of XP, but even better, they go down faster than the Tyrannosaur. Why waste time casting Ultima and using Genji Glove/Offering combo against Tyrannosaurs which will take a few minutes to do so when a simply Level 3 spell/ Tool/Dance/Blitz/Fire Skean/ Swordtech can decimate the group in a single round and have you finishing another round by the time you would have beaten a group of Tyrannosaurs? In an hour, I've been able to make the whole party jump by at least 10 levels with this strategy, whereas fighting Tyrannosaurs is a team effort and trying to solo them is more work than its worth, not to mention you don't have to worry about accidentally running into a Brachiosaur and watching him Ultima your party in a single round. Let's not forget that Tyrannosuar's utilize heavy damage attacks like Bite, and only appear in groups of two as a Pincer Attack meaning they get offensive advantage, meaning Bite has a much greater chance to K.O. a party member. It just requires more work than its worth.

The Tumbleweeds, are safer and far less time consuming. Yes, the Brachiasaur drops and carries good loot, but if the goals are levels, its better to not tangle with the one thing in the game who actually can one-shot even a high level party, especially since level grinding tends to make players sloppy and forget to save.

Besides 2 Tyrannosaurs net 17,600 XP which nets each party member 4,400xp or 8,800xp with Exp.Egg

4 Tumbleweeds nets you 10,216XP which is translated to 20,432XP for a single character in the solo/Vanish/Exp. Egg set-up.

Considering you need between 30,000 - 50,000 XP per level, to gain a level after Level 60, you're looking at gaining a level almost every two fights, and a guaranteed level for a character before getting to level 60. As oppose to a T-Rex team where even having everyone equipped with Exp.Eggs means they will still have to fight 3 or 4 battles to get a level. The only time consuming part with Tumbleweeds is that you need to do it individually, but Tumbleweeds have literally half the health of the Tyrannosaur and are weak to fire elemental meaning even low level characters can wipe them quickly in a single turn, even faster if the controller is set to memory. If the player only wants to beat the game, getting to the 40-50ish range is a breeze, and would probably take an hour at most.

just got done with the magitek labs, realized after looking at a walkthrough i missed the dragoon boots, zepyr cape, blizzard, and break blade..

i might have to restart the game to get these now :(

i followed a walkthrough on youtube expecting them to go through all the items in the dungeon, well i guess i was wrong after looking at a walkthrouhg txt on gamefaqs..

any way i can get those items listed back? or are they not that usefull, break blade sounds like a powerful item, and i heard dragoon boots somehow make mog stronger, the gold armors shields and helmets im not worried about. but the boots , cape, and blizzard i may be screwed on.

was also wondering of there were any youtube walkthroughs that don't miss any usefull items, and show who to steal from etc. kind of like a walkthrough that shows where to get all the items that can be missable.

ive read the missable item faq, but its a headache to keep checking over and over. video walkthroughs are better at showing how to get to secret rooms ala magitek factory.

Break blade is like totally mediocre. You'll get tons of better weapons. Blizzard is what, a sword? you can buy them from an NPC in the WoR. Dragon boots is the thing that makes you either always jump, or change fight into jump, (i forgot which). I've never relied on any of those items and I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually used Jump over my several dozen playthroughs.

Offering is what matters when it comes to winning.

And are you seriously wondering if levels matter? How would they not matter?

Wolf Kanno
08-05-2011, 06:53 PM
Well actually, I'd say gear matters more but levels/stat upgrades certainly make it easier. For the most part ignore any matchup with Chupon, you're really not meant to win those, his battle script has him using Sneeze about 75% of the time so unless you can kill in one round and get initiative on his high speed, you're most likely going to lose the item you bet. The Coliseum is mostly for betting armor and weapons for better gear. Items like the Cat-ear-Hood and Illumnia are only obtainable from here, so its basically a place to gather some rare gear or obtain items that you either missed or don't want to use the Ragnarok summon to obtain.

Mr. Chupon and Siegfried are considered by most fans as really tough optional challenges, especially since the nature of the Colosseum makes luck a big factor.

funny thing is on my first fight with chadarnook, he charmed cyan and cyan pulled off his cleave and killed the entire party in one hit. i just had to laugh, totaly did not see that coming lol.

ive also read about other treasures in owzers mansion, some that were neglected on my part. so i ask this, if i beat chadarnook, do i lose the option to get every single treasure in the house? or should i go back and check the ghestal painting twice for what ever that opens and fight all the other paintings in the main room of paintings.

also from what i understand relm has the possibility of being the strongest spell caster for damage spells and highest healing for heal spells cause of her magic stats.

is the above what i think about relm true? and also what armors and relics etc should i try and get for her so she does not get creamed even in teh back row, cause i know she has lower hp and weak defence and evade. (i could be wrong :O)

got everything i saw on an item list for the owzers mansion except maybe for the relic ring? i know i got the moogle suit.

should i try and get the relic ring? or is it not that important?

is there a way to protect agianst chadanooks charm type spell that makes party members kill each other? or is it a special attack with no relic to stop it?

chadanook does.

Wolf Kanno

Relm's setup is pretty simple actually cause most of her equipment is mage oriented to begin with. She does have some exclusive gear but mostly just pay attention to her MAG stat and if you are worried about her being K.O. then just keep someone with the Cover relic in your party.

For the most part, just keeping her in the back row should work out. She does have one special relic to look out for called the Fake Mustache which changes her Sketch skill into Control, which works like the Tamer class in FFV. Its great for teaching Strago Lores.

There is no protection from Charm I'm afraid, its a special status affliction so it can't be protected against, even by a ribbon. If you have Life 3, you should cast it on whoever is afflicted and then just kill them. For the most part, don't fight the Woman part of Chadernook, just defend or buff your party. You can only win by killing the Demon form.

It shouldn't affect it unless you use X-Zone or Break instead of Doom to kill them. A better strategy is to use Relm with the Fake Mustache Relic to Control the Brachiosaur and just use magic on it so it stays in Control status.

The Celestriad/Economizer is a rare drop but you can steal Ribbons from it. Also, the Aquila enemy in the Phoenix Cave has the Economizer as a rare steal item, if you want to go that route.

going to do narsh after some more leveling. going to get mog and umaru. after that i might end up doing the pheonix caves.

my new question is, how tough are the aquilla monsters you can rarely steal the econmizers from? also, if i end up clearing out pheonix cave and beat all bosses. could i come back to pheonix cave later on and try to steal the economizer from the aqquillas again? or would clearing it out with all the bosses make it where i can't explore it again and fight more monsters after the fact?

Outside of the collapsing house, and maybe Daryl's Grave I don't believe there are any one shot dungeons in the WoR.

The Aquila's are not terribly tough, at least compared to the Brachiosaur. If you can handle the Tyrannosaurs or Hoovers, then the Aquila shouldn't pose much of an issue.

Don't try to steal Economizers from Aquila in the Phoenix Cave. The enemy is a rare encounter, and the steal is a rare streal, and it will take far longer than it's worth. If you want an Economizer from Aquila, get it from the Coliseum. You can cycle back and forth between betting the Pearl Lance and the Strato to get guaranteed battles against Aquila without losing any items. Use Gogo with nothing but Capture, and he'll keep trying to steal every turn until he kills the enemy. Keep trying the battle until Gogo steals the Economizer.

I still recommend Brachiosaurs, though. Much easier, much quicker, and much more rewarding in other ways.

As far as Relm goes, she's as good as anyone else, HP/Defense wise. Defense is entirely dependent on equipment, and her equipment is actually really good(Behemoth Suit and Cat Hood make her a beast, and the Behemoth Suit is easy to get), and HP is pretty much the same for all characters. The only thing that sucks about Relm is that she has a crappy special ability, and thus is really only good for magic. But you can boost anyone's magic with Espers, and you don't need to boost stats at all to beat the game easily, so there's no point in using Relm(or any character) if you don't want to.

If the player only wants to beat the game, getting to the 40-50ish range is a breeze, and would probably take an hour at most.

If the player's only goal is beating the game, grinding at all is unnecessary. Level 40 is more than enough to finish the game without too much difficulty, and as long as you do all the sidequests, you should be there already by the time you tackle Kefka's Tower.

And you shouldn't be going anywhere near the Dragon Forest if you're under 50. Your first grinding spot should be the desert south of Miranda, where you fight Hoovers and Cactrots. These are easily killed enemies at any level, give you 10,000 gil per fight, and either 5 or 10 magic points, and the Hoovers give you a nice chunk of exp that will level you up sufficiently while you grind for magic.

Once you've gotten your magic learned and enough cash to buy whatever you need and some decent levels under your belt, only then should you try going into the Dragon Forest. And despite being easier, the Tumbleweeds just don't have the exp to be worth killing in the long run. And that one battle against 4 Tumbleweeds is the only battle in that area that is really exp. intensive. All the other encounters there are pointless. In the Dragon Forest, every battle is an exp. cow, and like I said, with the proper set-up and good levels, you can kill anything in there with only a tiny bit more effort than the Tumbleweeds, but with a massive increase in exp. You can doublecast Ultima to wipe out the T-rex's before the really do any damage, and Genji Glove+Offering is even more lethal. Really, the Dragon Forest is pretty much the go-to place for end-game experience in FFVI. It's what it's known for, and is where practically everyone ends up going sooner or later, if they intend on getting to level 99.

However, f you're only goal is somewhere in the 50's, the Tumbleweeds will work, but so will just about anywhere else, doing just about anything else. If you're a concientious battler and never run from fights, and try to get everything from every enemy and dungeon, you will be at level 50 by the end of the game without any end-game grinding.

i looked at a coliseum guide and found the line for exp egg. one of the lines starts with betting imp armour, well i have 5 of those :D . so i beat the first fight betting the imp armour after a few resets. now i got the turtle shield.

so betting tortiouse shield puts you against stereodite, a beefed up looking version of phunbaba. now my character levels are around 40 now. i got red cap and red jacket, tiger claws and two earrings on sabin. failed many times after many resets to win the fight betting the tortiouse shield. he keeps using blaster on the first move and insta killing everyone i put against him. barring that sabin blocked it a few times and had a good run, but eventualy lost by casting the spell warp LOL.

so i might try the coliseum later with higher levels. i just hate that blaster allways reduces hp to 0 when it hits.

You forget the Tumbleweed strategy is a solo strategy, so even those non-Tumbleweed encounters are netting 7600+ XP which is only a little less than what a T-Rex drops normally. Also, the Tumbleweeds are not uncommon encounters, usually only taking four to five encounters before running into a set, and with the proper set-up in place, you're solo character is netting 7,600 to 10,000 XP at all times, as opposed to a group of four fighting T-rexs with the Exp.Egg only getting them 4400 XP per fight. Mathematically you're getting roughly twice the XP per fight ofr one character aloowing them to level incredibly fast. While their are certainly set-ups to kill the T-Rexs quickly, they also mean you can't use the Exp. Egg to maximize this, and frankly it takes awhile until you're strong enough to solo the forest. You have to use a team and its frankly faster to level up with solo strategies.

As for the Hoovers, they are not exactly pushovers themselves. While the Vanish/Doom trick certainly works, you're still getting pelted with his strong Sandstorm attacks and nasty Crush attack, he's not exactly slow either. Not to mention Cactuars are only good for AP and money. The problem is that if your starting on lower levels, these battles all require a team, whereas the T-Strategy can technically be done as soon as the Airship is obtained, since only Vanish and level 2 magic is more than enough to tackle the encounters. You can easily get half the cast from lv.30 to lv. 50 in the time it would take to get a team of four to those level just fighting Hoovers and T-Rexs. It makes even getting to LV. 99 take a sleepy afternoon for most of the cast.

i have a few concerns with setzer and strago. right now with the relics and equips i have. setzer for the most part and strago seem pretty weak compared to most of the other characters. sans umaro, i don't think he would every be useful.

ive read of a setup for setzer that could make him a beast, but it says you need genji glove and two (WTF?) fixed dice? i know you get fixed dice in kefkas tower.

besides the dual fixed dice setup, what could i do or equip on setzer and strago to make them less useless?

i don't plan on getting stragos lore from doomgaze cause you need a level 5 monster for the lore to do its work.

thank you. and straight flush only does 500-700 damage now?

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

also for some reason i never see shadows dog do anything in WoR? how often is he supposed to defend or counter attack? in fact i don't think ive seen him since WoB.

ive also read this when looking up a lore guide for strago

+++++++++++++
+ Rippler +
+++++++++++++

WARNING: DON'T HAVE SHADOW IN YOUR PARTY WHEN LEARNING THIS! Due to a bug in
the game, Rippler can steal Interceptor status. Unless the enemy is kind
enough to swap it back, or you have somebody in the party who can do so, you'll
lose him permanently when the battle ends! (Thankfully, FF3h -- available at
Lord J's web site (http://www.angelfire.com/pq/jumparound) -- makes it easy for ROM players to
restore the dog. Better yet, get Terii Senshi's patch from
RPG Legion (http://www.rpglegion.com) so Rippler only swaps what it's supposed to.)

Setzer's Slots use the MAG stat, so equip the Maduin or Tritoch Espers on him and he'll get beefier. Basically, you need to make these two into mages to make them work for you until you can get the Fixed Dice for Setzer. Strago's worth comes mostly from his Lores. Rippler isn't terribly useful but spells like Tsunami and Aero are great and much more dependably Water and Wind elemental damage than you have access to. Course, you can always do what most players do, and simply do the Hidon quest in Thamasa, teach Strago, Grand Train and leave it as his default spell...

The best way I find to teach Strago Lores, is to make a party with him, Gau, and Relm (equipped with the Fake Mustache relic) and train Gau on the Veldt. An easier way, involves fighting the Dark Force enemies in Kefka's Tower cause they know all but two of the Lores in the game.

I can't say much about the Rippler bug I'm afraid. Sadly, VI is one of the buggiest games in the series.

The curse shield is most definitely in the SNES version.

so i read the easiest way to uncurse the shield is to wear a ribbon and safety bit with force armor.

what is the easiest route to get the safety bit and force armor? i have the moogle charm btw incase that would make it easier to get the safety bit and force armor(if they are in a chest, or i could walk strait to a triggered boss fight)

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
bit of a dilemma here, if i choose ragnarok sword, i can get illumina, but if i choose the esper i can morph monsters into items D:

im pretty sure ripple is the reason i never see shadows dog anymore, intercepter is gone it seems for that reason.
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
now that i have researched rippler, and looked up all three enemies that use it on the final fantasy wikia, i have not even fought with any of these monsters, let alone with shadow.

i still have no clue why intercepter is not doing anything

Wolf Kanno

The Force Armor isn't necessary, hell the Safety Bit won't be necessary either if your can wipe out enemies quickly enough. You can also use the Memento Ring which both Shadow and Relm can equip. It has the same ability as the Safety Bit, and you should have at least one of them (There are three total in the game).

As for the Ragnarok question, that is for you to decide. The Esper teaches Ultima a.k.a. the "I win button" of FFVI and also has the Morph ability which will help in acquiring some items in the game without messing with the Coliseum. On the other hand, Ragnarok is a freaking awesome sword and Illumina is even better. With both swords raising several stats, always critical hit, and cast Flare and Holy randomly when they attack, meaning these weapons can do the highest amount of damage possible without using Relics. Granted, they can't ignore the Offering's damage modifier like the Atma Weapon but that's hardly a major deterrent.

Its a tough choice either way.

most characters are mid to late 40's now except a few. (i know i could beat the game now, but i love sidequests and acquiring hard to get items and stuff)

right now relm is a beast with level 3 elemental spells and pearl. Mog is great with physical attacks.

I think i might grow shadow the mage route cause he can learn level 3 elementals and also ramp up his skean damage with espers +2 to mp.

sabin is allready doing the damage cap on most monsters with bum rush cause i built up his magic attack with epsers.
for strago i got aero, big guard, revenge, pearl wind, step mine (i have massive amounts of steps according to the menu but it only does less than 2k damage)

that cactrot/hoover area has really beefed up my spell gaining time without too much leveling.

my problems right now are with terra and celes. yeah they make great mages for now. but if i equip genji glove with maneater and falchain(spelling) they seem to do piddly damage...

do i need to build up terra or celes's strength through espers for them to do more physical damage? or am i missing something?

i know optimum equips don't always get what you want out of a character, so how should i equip terra and celes to be better physical damage doers ?

also, in kefkas tower, how often do pugs(tonberries) spawn? and what monster formation do they spawn as? also what area of kefkas tower do they spawn? as i know they can drop minerva.

or should i just bet my czarina gown(crown?) for a minerva? i fought four pugs in a monster in a box and did not get any minervas..

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
i also plan on playing the GBA version of final fantasy 6 after i beat the snes version. I heard some things were added and bigs like the rippler bug taking away shadows dog, and the evade stat doing nothing have been fixed.

so what differences between snes ffIII and gba FF6 should i know about?

Wolf Kanno
08-11-2011, 04:05 PM
Terra and Celes are physical powerhouses mostly because of their weapon pool. The Atma Weapon can do some serious damage based on character levels, and weapons like Excalibur, Ragnarok, and Illumina are frighteningly strong, and give decent stats boosts across the board. They also get access to weapons that give auto-critical attacks at the cost of draining some MP, but with their high MP pools and osmose spell, you can keep up the damage, as well as just using the elemental weapons with their chance to cast spells with each blow. If you feel they are not doing as well as you like, you can raise their Strength, especially since both have pretty high Magic to begin with so it won't suffer if you try to raise other stats. Or you can simply make them go the Mage route. Terra's Morph doubles her strength, magic, and some of her defensive capabilities, so you can also exploit that for bigger battles.

As for the differences between the GBA and SNES. The GBA version has a much better translation and localization, with an improved character limit that allows the characters to not be hindered with dialogue. As well as minor upgrades like character portraits being displayed when they talk. Unfortunately, the GBA doesn't have as good of a sound card, and has some screen issues due to the system's design, this causes the graphics to be much brighter (and in some picky fans opinions, "look washed out") and the music sounds really off, if you are accustomed to the original games score. Some people can get use to these changes but it makes some picky fans blood boil. Some of the classic cheesy dialogue has been changed or removed as well. This is mostly nitpicky crap among VI fans. In terms of changes to gameplay, several bugs have been fixed, but the game is still buggy. Major bugs like the evade bug, Wind God Gau/Gogo, Rippler bug, Opera Bug, Vanish/Doom bug, and most important, the Relm Sketch bug have been fixed. Psycho Cyan's original bug has been fixed as well but there is still a way to activate it but its a little more complicated to do so. Due to some new additions to the game, several choices have been made moot, so its now possible to acquire Mog's Water Rhondo dance in the WoR and its possible to acquire an infinite number of Ragnarok and Atma weapons thanks to being able to save after finishing the game.

The game adds four new espers to the game: Leviathan, Jumbo Cauctaur, Gilgamesh, and Diablo. This also adds in a few extra spells and they all give some pretty great stat growth. Even better, is that most of them are added in rather flawlessly I might add. If you had never played the original game, you would not have been aware these weren't in there to begin with, and they are also mostly pretty balanced in terms of what they offer gameplay wise, unlike some of the new content added into the GBA versions of IV and V.

The game also restores an optional boss and dungeon that were cut from the original game due to time constraints and resource issues. The Dragon's Den is a pretty cool optional dungeons that pits you up against super versions of the 8 dragons and the Kaiser Dragon optional boss. This dungeon also nets you a new "ultimate weapon/relic" for each character in the game, though old standbys are still better in some cases. There is also a Soul Shrine sidequest, that pits your party against a 100 enemy encounters in a row, as well as adding in Omega Weapon for the hell of it. The game also has a Bestiary you can access anytime from the Config menu and a Jukebox you can access from the main menu. I feel everyone should play both versions if they ever get the chance.

Nothing was changed in terms of treasure or item placement. Its virtually the same as the SNES except with a more accurate translation (though some things like character names are the same) the only confusing thing you may run into are the name changes cause Fire 2 is now Fira, Pearl is now Holy, Offering Relic is now the Master Scroll, Swrdtech is now Bushido, and Terrato is now Midgard Zolom to name a few of the name changes, but overall its the same game except for the extra content. ;)

ive seen a youtube video of the battle window with health shown like this 450/500 showing the total hp and current at the same time. ive looked in the config and can't figure out how to get my hp to show like that during a battle. anyone that has played the GBA version know how to set it like this?

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
found out, have to disable atb gauge to get that..

also found a ribbon in WoB when you pick lockes scenerio wher you find celes. its in the smallish dungeon where you find the iron armor and such. you find a secret passage that leads to a set of stairs that go down into a cell looking room. after you loot the chest with the x-potion you go down and right and check the area for a ribbon in the WoB!

was this in the snes version too? well i found it in the Advance version. also loving the bestiary so i can see what can be stolen from fought enemies.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

i also noticed that the thief knife never seems to steal when i have locke equipped with the genji glove.

so i have to have in in the left or right hand to work? right now Im using both the theif knife and the first throwing weapon that works in the back row for locke right now. and it only seems to try and steal when i give the command to steal?

It's really random when the weapon works, its also possible that using the Thief Knife with the Genji Glove lowers the odds of the steal affect kicking in, but there is no record of that being a sure thing. Chances are, you're just having bad luck.

i don't take any offense by your words. I'm 28 years old, I'm sort of reliving my childhood playing these games again. I have played them many times before without any guides or help. I could complete them without any help, I guess you could call me a power gamer. I like to know all the ins and outs of games at some point. Ive beaten earthbound atleast 5 times and played it many more. I rented final fantasy III as i knew it when i was young in the 90's. Ive allways got to the WoR and kefkas tower at some point, i just like to soak up info about games like a sponge.

my way of enjoying a game may seem immature to you, or might seem to go against your gaming habits. but rpgs are about the story and the way characters connect in my opinion. i don't skip story much often. I'm not gathering pixels as you think. ive seen the stories of many snes and other rpgs in my past, i just like to pickup off the games on what i missed out on. mostly the secret items that i may have missed in my past playthroughs.

about the only few final fantasies i have not played have been before the us III then known as the VI.
When i had my first job i bought final fantasy VII before i even bought the psx console. I love these games and they are as much a part of me as any loved story.

yes this is a bit of a ramble, and I'm sorry if you dissagree on my playstyle. but i thought i owed you a bit of so called "backstory" since you and the others have been filling me in on the things i might have missed without seeking help.

As long as you can connect to the net and read it you should have no difficulty finding everything in a game this old. On the other hand you might want our opinions and insights on the game.

The game is nearly perfect for what it is. There's no plethora of items and characters. The plots and backstories all tie in. I've done only hundreds of play throughs. Less than ten are lower than 19.

It's my opinion you don't need to make it hard this way. Youtube has videos on low-level runs and certain item runs. Other than that, you can take as long as you want. Besides your own mortality there's no forced time limit on you as far as we're aware of. ;)
