... may very well be their most ridiculous list yet.

Top 100 Modern Video Games - IGN (http://uk.ign.com/top/modern-games)

Discuss. Or not.

Yep, dumb list. NOt much to discuss.

How is Killzone 2 only at #87? How are Bioshock & Mass Effect 2 beater than Red Dead Redemption? And these only scratch the surface of my problems with this list!

I'm convinced that these lists IGN like to make up are just major trolling.

The number one problem with that list it they couldn't be bothered to put more than one entry on a page and it takes forever to skim through it.

Man, remember back in the day (1999-ish) when IGN used to be a supercool place to hang out?

These days, yeah. Just trolling.

Also, I agree with VeloZer0's assessment; one entry per page is just silly.

I just realized we are perhaps being overly harsh and whatnot

But

I am a snooty, jaded videogamer and I make no apologies for acting like an elitist snob~

I fucking doubt it.

The whole point of lists like these is to draw discussion and criticism of the list. Looks like it worked.

I think I speak for all of us in this thread when I say your logic and reasoning is not welcome here.

Games from 2005 are considered modern? Has the industry really stagnated that much for the last six years?

:/

VeloZer0

2005 makes sense as it was when one of the current generation consoles was released.

I can't comment on most of these since I only own about 7 modern games. I personally feel that Little Big Planet 2 should be higher up I haven't played it, but LBP was such a drug for me that the improvements in the sequel must be a super drug.

MGS4 got a 10 from IGN and didn't make the top 100. That just shows how scrabbled together this list must have been that they omitted a game they absolutely must have included to maintain the sites credibility.

Plus I'm sick of hearing how much everyone likes Mass Effect 2. This is what, IGN's 4th video raving about that game? We get it.

MGS4 not being on the list pretty much renders it null & void :colbert:

Demons souls being #100 makes this list null and void.... But i would agree with most games they had on the list, just the placements seemed ridiculously random

I didn't bother to see what else was on the list, but I think Mass Effect 2 was pretty good. I think it would have been better to list the first Mass Effect though, if they had to pick one of the two. Not so much because I think it was better, but because of the introduction of Shepard. The best customizable protagonist out there IMHO.

of course, it's great for teh hits!!!

but like other have pointed out, there's some kid on the front of the comments freaking out that MGS4 is not on it and I'm astonished that it isn't me! Also, inFAMOUS 2 is #40 and that game came out like... days ago. And Portal 2 has been out for what? Less than 2 full months? Talk about a lack of context!!!

I think the most surprising thing is that this list exists at all. With the way IGN handles most of their top 100 lists, you'd think "Modern Games" ARE the top 100 games of all time anyway.

Mass Effect 2 is number 1 eh? I guess I should play it someday. Do you need to play the first ME to know what's going on? I don't think that's avaliable for PS3.

Looking at the list they got some of these right, some wrong, as with any list. But I do agree it looks pretty quickly put togehter if they didn't include MGS4 yet they gave it a 10 rating. MGS4 is probably my favorite PS3 game too.

ME2 on PS3 has some sort of motion comic that hits the high points of ME1. You DO miss out on the emotional impact of a lot of the plot points that way, but if you don't care, it will suffice.

A lot of the cast from ME1 play largely background roles in ME2 with only two exceptions, so you mostly don't have to worry about dropping in and having no idea why someone has a certain attitude. It's a clean slate with most of the player characters. It wouldn't be my #1 of recent time, but it'd be damn close. I'd say go for it.

They really should just release ME1 for PS3. :(

Its a pretty poor list, I'm surprised how many puzzle games and obscure DLC titles are on this list. Most of the the actual console titles seem to be recent and I'm surprised they omitted some titles. I don't even think highly of MGS4 and even I felt it should have been on the list. These lists just exist to create debate anyway.

Mass Effect 2 was good Mass Effect 3 will probably great CLINT MANSELL UNF. It definitely deserves top 10, but number 1? Huh? Girl, please. I think all the games listed in the top twenty deserve to be in the top twenty just not in the order they're in. It's not like these are meant to be over-all it's just recent games or what they call modern in terms of popularity, so no need to get knickers knotting or knotting knickers, whatever you know I mean. I stopped at #26 though cba.

how is rachet and clank not on there? or jak 2? or crisis core?

Wolf Kanno
07-10-2011, 03:34 AM
Cause only one Ratchet and Clank game was released for the modern system (not counting spin-offs of course) Jak 2 is PS2 and that's an "old system" so it doesn't count, and Crisis Core sucks. ;)

Still... Tetris DS? Really IGN?

3 actually
4 if you count size matters
5 if you count the spinoff
