Hey, the Golden Corral IS awesome. I went there for the first time a couple of months back; I had to go to a trade show for work and afterwards we decided to stop there. It was amazing. Everything I wanted for about ten bucks. I had two full platefuls of food and then I had a huge heaping bowl of ice cream with all the toppings. It was glorious.

You know what else is awesome? Chinese food buffets. I went to one recently and they had these sesame seed ball things and they were amazing.

So yes. Let's discuss buffets! :monster:

A place called Super Crazy Buffet just opened up in my area and I want to try it. Supposedly it's mostly different kinds of asian foods and tons of super fresh fruit.

Everybody who posts in this thread touting chinese buffet has my sympathy. You all need to come and visit me for dinner and you will never, ever eat Chinese buffets or even eat out at a Chinese restaurant ever again.

Go to Sashimi buffet!

But the local restaurant has the nicest crispy duck I can imagine. :(

You know, I hate Golden Corral too.

I've only been to one buffet I've actually liked, really. I typically dislike them because they're often lower quality-food, unhealthy, and make you wanna eat yourself to death.

However, there's a Japanese buffet about thirty minutes from where I live and it's amazing. Plus, it's a lot better and healthier than most food you see, period.

I've never been to Golden Corral...I don't think I ever want to haha. I imagine it's something along the lines of Old Country Buffet?

I've been to Chinese buffets before...meh. I feel like I never really like the sushi they have there, nor most of their dishes. Like a good asian, I go for the crab legs, oysters, clams, and fish. :D

The only buffets I've liked in the past was this amazing family owned Indian buffet where the owner was incredibly nice to us and they brought around all different kinds of naan. Also, I will go to Japanese sushi buffets from time to time where you mark what you want on a sheet and they make it for you (instead of walking around a buffet line where the sushi has been out for god knows how long).

Yeah, no, eating at a buffet is like eating out of a trough. I would rather avoid that.

I am partial to all-you-can-eat buffets, mostly because I can eat a lot.

Guys, I have a confession. I attended a wedding dinner at the Golden Corral.

Follow-up shocker: It was my mother's.

Buffets are really hit-and-miss in my experience. The food is often really poor quality.

Also the typical catering buffet you get at weddings or whatever are the WORST. Triangle sandwiches all dry and stale and if you're really lucky a chocolate fountain where the chocolate is like 99% oil or whatever.

The only issue I have with buffets are children. I saw a child with ice cream covered hands, and tubs of ice cream with claw marks :stare:

goddamn it, I hate kids at restaurants, period. Buffets are worse because it's a free for all and they're always running. Running with food in their hands.

Buffets are good, but I usually hate them because I always end up grabbing more food than I could handle and I end up wasting good food. I hate wasting food. :(

The other restaurants are pretty damn good too.

I've never heard of Golden Corral. Is it like Hometown Buffet? We went to one of those after my uncle's funeral, and I found much of it to be perfectly edible.

My favorite buffet would probably be the one at the Luxor in Las Vegas. There's a Todai's down the street from me, and that's really good, but it's way too expensive.

Manda's further away than you~ PG is Canadian so we all know the chances I'd ever voluntarily visit HIM!

Also I'd happily have lower quality premade sushi, I just want sushi at something approaching a reasonable price. You have NO IDEA how expensive it is here.

I get all-you-can eat for $23, though it'd be cheaper if I ever went for lunch instead of dinner. Ala carte, it's usually like $3-$5 for two nigiri, or around $10 for maki.

Our local/regional buffet is Western Sizzlin'. You can't get the steaks at the buffet like at Golden Corral, but it's ... okay I guess

Shlup, when I return to California, you are taking me places. I beg it of you. A made-to-order sushi buffet sounds like something that would cost £50 over here if it would even be profitable. I'm not sure if Brits love sushi too much (ie are willing to pay through the roof) or not enough (ie just don't pay enough to make the restaurants charge low). But it's not cool, man. :(

I adore a good buffet. Chinese, Thai, even "normal" food. In fact, the best buffet I've been to was one in NZ called Valentines (http://www.valentines.co.nz/our-buffet), which had all sorts of everything. I am totally going back there when I return to New Zealand someday because omg yum.

I think we have a few places in Chicago that's $16 (lunch) and $19 (dinner) for all-you-can-eat sushi where you mark on a sheet what you want and it isn't just sitting out. And it's BYOB, which is nice.

I could eat sushi every day.

I've never been to a Hometown Buffet, but Golden Corral has all of the usual foods. Fruit, pudding, salads, soups, fried or grilled shrimp/chicken/fish, hamburgers, spaghetti, pancakes, yogurt, etc.

We don't take my cousin anymore though. She will fill her plate with a certain food, eat a bite, find out she doesn't like it, and then grab another plate and fill it with that same food and not eat it. She's a food hoarder. Normal people will eat and eat and eat, or stop eating because they find out they weren't all that hungry after all, but I don't know, I guess food is just decoration to her. After I moved out of the house she got my old room all moldy :stare:

Rant/story activate. There was a sushi buffet/mark what you want type place where I used to live. Around 19$ for dinner. Good stuff, but with a catch. If you ordered a roll and didn't finish it, it was 1.00 extra on your bill. Waste not, want not. So if you order 5 rolls and couldn't finish two of the rolls, you owed two more dollars.

I started off with 4 rolls, they were delicious, and decided I had room for one more roll. I wasn't paying attention and reused my old order sheet. The sushi chef didn't notice either, and made 5 rolls instead of just one. My fault, but smurf me that was a lot of sushi. I was poor, so I didn't want to pay another extra 4-5 dollars. I wound up eating somewhere around 45-55 pieces of sushi. It might not sound like much to some of you, but I was miserable for hours. Wasted on sushi. /rant.

Haha...my friends and I are guilty of always ordering too much sushi at all-you-can-eats. And like you, we'll stuff ourselves just so we don't have to pay the extra $1/piece. My friend tries to get creative and hide the rice in the wasabi... :kaolaugh: One time my friend marked two "I"s for nigiri pieces...he meant 2 as in 2 tally marks, but they gave him 11 pieces of just that one kind of nigiri.

I'm always in pain after sushi buffets...but now I've found this great place that is actually a fish market for restaurants, but they do take-out sushi as their side business. The rolls are pretty cheap and a lot of their nigiri pieces are $1 each! And their quality is so much better than sushi buffets...they give you pretty big pieces of fish instead of small slivers.

The only buffet I've ever been to is Emerald's Chinese Buffet, the food's ok, but getting around the place is a pain in the arse. Especially when the place is packed. The tables are far to close to one another. But the service is great and like i said the food's Ok :p
