YouTube - ‪Sammy J - "Delete"‬‏ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWzuBMzlhlo&feature=relmfu)

So, when you kick the bucket, what would you like done with the most importan thing in your life - your documents/data/files? Is there someone in particular you'd like to go through them, maybe? Would you want them all deleted? Would you want them kept somewhere? Perhaps on some site that lists "files of the dead" or something? A memorial website? Do you even care?

This is actually just an excuse to share the video because I found it amusing. But it did make me think about how I'd be remembered when everything is indeed stored on a hard drive these days. I have a photo album though and we do have a chunk of "physical" photos, so it's all good at that end, really. So uhm. Yeah.

...did you actually find a "files of the dead" website? That's weird. To me that would be like going through someone's (phyiscal) mail and file cabinets and papers. Most of it is probably junk that no one else will care about.

I could see leaving in my will for my sister to go through my computer, though (and to probably notify my online friends of anything that's happened). Maybe print out pictures for my family or something. Mostly, I'd probably want it all deleted - there's no reason for anyone else to have the stuff on my computer.

I haven't looked for one yet, but I know there are sites out there that have some kind of system where they release information after a certain amount of years or after it's verified you're dead or... something. I only remember hearing about it when I was much, much younger though, probably around the time I first found EoFF. I can't remember what it's called for the life of me, or exactly how it worked...

I'm not planning on dying. If I do, I'll be dead, so I really won't give anything that remotely resembles a fuck about what happens.

The vast majority of my files (by megabytes) consist of a music and video collection. I'm sure someone could use it, delete everything else.

I have no qualms with being "deleted". My life is full of it anyway.

I don't want people to fuss about with a funeral or cremation for me really. I'll be dead and gone so I wouldn't care either way what the living do with my corpse. As for my files, documents etc, same goes there. Keep or delete them as they wish. Anything of value I'd like to go to nice family members who need the money or want for sentimental value.

On the other hand, I kinda like the idea of my remains being turned into an Aura Diamond and keps as a family heirloom. Perhaps every member of the family it's passed down to could have their remains turned into a diamond and added to it over the generations. Get a bit of family mythology going on there :)

By the time we die, will we still be using the same old optical data drives that we're using today? If technology designers are to be believed then unless we die prematurely then probably not.

If however I died prematurely due to an accident or something I'd hope Psychotic would do the honours of not formatting my computer because frankly thats not viking enough for me. I want him to get a jerry can of gasoline and a lighter and just take my laptop outside and my 360 too. Douse the fuckers in gasoline and let them burn as a viking offering to me :D

I will leave my vast fortune to someone on the condition that they spend a week in a haunted house watching all my horrific porn.

My hard drives are encrypted and I have no intention of sharing the passwords, so my mother never needs to find out about my donkey porn interest.

I'll have an unencrypted external drive for family pix and w/e tho.

I'm not planning on dying. If I do, I'll be dead, so I really won't give anything that remotely resembles a smurf about what happens.

Yup.

Yeah, this.

Honestly I don't think I'd care if anyone went through my files, anyway. The worst they're going to find are spergy and overly detailed notes for books I've written, slightly racy chatlogs, and and more images from 4chan than one can count.
