Okay so I just lying back and when I tried to get up my neck got buggered. I'm finding it hard to keep my neck off my right shoulder now because when I bring it up it's incredibly painful. Usually this allows me to stay in bed for hours without feeling guilty, but I kind of start my new job tomorrow and I'm not calling in sick. What does one do?

I'd post in the 'help' section but nobody goes there. So to make it a GC thread, talk about illness, offer advice and so forth.

When my neck hurts it usually helps to bend it in the angle which hurts the most, stretching the guilty muscles out and holding that position for a while.

Either that or I take a knife to my spinal cord.

Stretching, antiphlogistine and something hot usually does the job

The world looks wonderful from the horizontal perspective. Everybody is sideways!

Thanks guys. Will work on not being a pussy and exercising it mixed with a high dose of lying down.

If it's just plain killing you tomorrow, and you can't call out at the new job, see if you have a friend/family member with some muscle relaxers. That'll get you through the day at least.

as for the topic itself:

I am covered with scars. especially around my legs. I've jump into bike gears, tried to attack a tree at 20-30 kmph, used my knees to break my falls, been bitten by a dog, fractured my hand, intentionally burned myself numerous times (because it's fun and because I got bit by bugs), and I don't even know what else

There's a game - you put a lit cigarette against your arm and have somebody else brace the cigarette against their arm. Then as the cigarette burns down, the first person to move loses.

Who lost? I don't know - our friends freaked out and pushed us after a few minutes. Both my brother and myself had a circular burn mark on our forearms for years.

hi I'm pg.

If you have a heating pad I think that would help relax the muscles. You could try a hot bath too to relax you. When I've had pain in my neck though, I've always had to just wait it out :(

Send someone who looks like you to work in your place tomorrow. Then go the next day and no one will notice because no one cares about the new guy anyway.

Well it was a bit better when I woke up but it was still killing so I dosed up on Ibuprofen. Got through the day alright but holy fuck does my neck feel tense right now. I've done my neck in before but this is the fucking king.

And Pg, fly over now. Just bring an umbrella.

Heating pads work wonders on muscle aches and stiffness.
