60GB PS3 are backwards compatible. All other sizes are unable to play PS2 games.

However, 60GB is nowhere near enough space for the PS3 and not worth getting. I suggest buying a PS2: you can get them for about £20, sometimes less, nowadays.

You could just manually upgrade the 60GB HDD, for more space. 1TB 7200RPM HDD's are really cheap now.

then you are a lucky owner of the few backwards compatible PS3s out there. Pray it doesn't break and you get it replaced with one that isn't.

Apparently the new PSP (Playstation Vita, I think?) will play PS2 games the way the PSP plays PS1 games. You probably don't want to rush to get one at launch or anything, but it's something to look into when the PS2 inevitably fails.

I wonder if they at that point try to give us proper software emulation on PS3. I doubt it though.
