Ehhh there's too many factors at play and too much variance to pick out a list xD The only song I've thought about in terms of an all-time favourite would be New Slang by The Shins, but it's not like I love it more than all other songs at any given time. But that's my non-committal answer I guess!

I started to do this and then as soon as I literally had listed off every song on an album I realised how pointless it would be.

Ive always wanted to be famous one day musically and have an article with my top 100 favorite songs.

somewhere in there would consist of:
the vines - ride
revis - caught in the rain
arctic monkeys - riot van
lots of radiohead, like - subterranean homesick alien, karma police, pyramid song, all I need, videotape, national anthem
queens of the stone age - no one knows, in my head

This is another of those topics that's just so hard for me. I mean to really be fair we'd have to narrow down like top 5 songs of top 5 bands in top 5 genres and then I'd still probably just want to add a few. One song that never, ever gets old for me is "Layla" by Derek and the Dominoes. It just makes your heart swell up to your throat and you want to love someone that much too. Maybe I'll work on this.

I love so many songs and so many different genres of music that I made a decision:

Favorite Song:
Thru the Eyes of a Ruby, by The Smashing Pumpkins

Second Favorite Song:
In Your Wildest Dreams, by The Moody Blues

I don't care if a better song comes out that I think is way cooler, that I could listen to forever.
Those are my two favorite songs. The decision is final. Now I never have to worry about it ever again.

Three More for Me:

The Suburbs - Arcade Fire
(One of my favorite bands and the song is so darn catchy).

I'll Be Waiting - Adele
(What a voice! I still think this song should be more popular).

Casimir Pulaski Day - Sufjan Stevens
(It takes a lot for me to say that a piece of music changed my life, but this is it. It is heart-breakingly beautiful, contains wonderful harmonies and layered horns, and is somehow both tragic and uplifting. It also tells a story that hits home, having lost someone close to me in a fashion described in the lyrics. Give it a listen, you might cry by the end of it but you won't be sorry).

Take care all.

See what you did there, Laddy? What you did there is you took an entire genre of music, and subsequently made a large generalisation. Bad Laddy. That's not how it works!

John Lennon probably died because some poor man who had just been fired turned on the radio, and heard some bellend telling him how he should 'imagine no possessions' and about 'Sharing all the world', at which point he stole a gun and kindly granted him his wish, meaning Lennon wouldn't have to jump around countries for tax purposes anymore.

I could never pick a favourite song. I couldn't even pick a favourite album or artist. Top 10, maybe, but certainly nothing fewer.

However I can tell you that I love a little bit of the Manic Street Preachers and Your Love Alone Is Not Enough (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_OnFHJou4o&feature=colike) is probably my favourite.

I used to hate this song because it depressed me but I kind of like it now: Cat Stevens - (Remember the Days of the) Old School Yard (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFwDEqLQ0bA)

And this last one has a story to go along with it. In preschool we had a "show and tell" where we had to sing our favourite song. So a bunch of 4 year olds sang their favourite nursery rhymes. Then long haired and adorable four-year-old Dak gets up and sings this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH46SmVv8SU). Much of the point is... lost on me, we'll say, but doesn't make it any less of a powerful song.

And here, as a bonus prize, another song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if-UzXIQ5vw) I remember from my childhood.

I love Modest Mouse more than I love some people, so my favorite song in the smurfing world is Dashboard. If I had to make a favorite list for them, it would go something like:

1. Dashboard
2. Ocean Breathes Salty
3. Tiny Cities Made of Ashes
4. Invisible
5. Night on the Sun

Other favorite songs that aren't Modest Mouse are:

Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel
Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, AND Someone Saved my Life Tonight by Elton John (Elton is my main squeeze.)
If I Ever Leave This World Alive, Another Bag of Bricks, Death Valley Queen, and Black Friday Rule by Flogging Molly
The Rocky Road to Dublin by The High Kings
Inochi no Namae by Joe Hisaishi (from the Spirited Away original score, also known as the song that plays through the entire film)
Astonomy Domine, Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2, Sheep, High Hopes, and Learning to Fly by Pink Floyd
Losing My Religion by R.E.M.
Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine
Knife Going In by Tegan and Sara
Weatherbeaten by The Republic Tigers
Telescope by The Telepathic Butterflies
Power Doesn't Run on Nothing by The Thermals
Icky Thump by The White Stripes

There are more, this is just my favorite songs on my current playlist.

I will honestly admit that one of my favourite songs is Journey, Don't Stop Belivin' I was gutted when Glee did their cover version, it killed me a little on the inside.

I felt the same when I heard the auto-tuned to hell version of Only the Good Die Young.
