August's Photo Competition Theme.

Hey hey, it's time for the next photography competition. Last month's winner was Shlupquack, and she has picked the theme.....

Colors!

You have until the 10th of the month to submit to me a photo by PM using this month's theme. I'd love to see all four original participants play again as well as many of you who said you'd like to try. Miriel, Rye, Shorty, Shiny, Jiro, Timekeeper, DemonDude, and smittenkitten that means you! I took my photo the evening after shlup announced the theme so I'll hand something in this time.

I only missed the last competition because I was in Africa!
And I did actually take some nice photos which would have fit into the last category. Oh well, I'll do what I can for this one...

Miriel, you should handicap yourself somehow. Only use a Lomo Kompakt Automat or some other weird camera.

Yeah I'm being picky, but this difference will help me decide in what I take a photo of, as I could take a photo of something with lots of colors, or I could take a photo of something that has a vibrant color/screams color when I see it.

I think DD has it right. Shlup just wants the photographer to celebrate and emphasize the use of color. If you choose a monochromatic photo emphasizing one color or if you go for a large amount of many colors, either option is acceptable.

Sorry. My work computer is the suckiest suck that ever sucked suck. It has two warring antivirus programs that wreak havoc on my online capabilities. Every time I think I have them under control they somehow break my intarwebz. This time they would let me open the window to edit a post, but not let me save the changes. So I had to wait until I got home.

Yeah...I'm so swamped at work, I don't know when I'm gonna have time for this. Although, I did take a picture of a half naked guy across from my office building...he was holding some ""Give the suit off your back" sign for Men's Warehouse. Sexy, but not very "colorful" :rolleyes:

Well, I'm still tailoring this whole deal to what the participants enjoy. I get what Shlup was saying about having a contest going almost constantly. A week after the last one ended this one began. So it starts to become a little mundane. If I shortened the window to play I guess it's not enough time for some people.

So what about if after this month, I skip a month, and start it again in October? We could play the month of October, skip November, and go from there. It would allow the contest to have longer playing time, and not get worn out too quickly. How's that sound?

Just to be clear, these must be pictures we've taken ourselves specifically for this thread, and not some likely pic found on the web?

Yes, I believe it has to be a picture you yourself took after the theme was announced.

The rules are pretty open. The photo should be taken by you. Any modification to the image should only be done by you, and finally the picture you use should be one you've taken specifically for the competition. No old photos please. Part of the challenge is receiving a theme and then working with it. The photo can be manipulated in any graphic arts program of your choosing. Using availalbe effects and things of that sort to enhance a photo is welcome. Blending bits and pieces of other images into your photo is frowned upon. For example, if the subject is "water" and you photoshop a body of water into a photo that didn't have one, you weren't really taking a photo of water were you?
