I know we've had one of these threads previously. But I don't care so smurf you.

Apparently there is some kind of National Poker League and so my local tavern has games every Thursday night. After however many rounds the top 5 players are sent of to a regional comp yada yada yada. I don't really care because tonight was my first night playing poker on a table that wasn't filled with family and covered in beer stains.

I managed to make it onto the final table which put me top 9, and I was fortunate to get even there, having been all but done and dusted twice. When I am forced to go all in, I play like a maverick and don't look at my cards and holy fuck it worked twice. Third time burried me.

Does anyone else do social cards or pseudo-gambling? Does anyone have stories of big wins or big losses in casinos? This is now a general gambling thread.

inb4 I thought this was a sex thread

I play for pretzel sticks. Usually I end up with no pretzel sticks but one night I ended up with the entire fucking bag! Yeah!

I used to play Pokemon cards.

My grandma taught me to play Canasta (Old Jewish lady card game) for whenever one of the regular players in her group is out. :shobon:

I am pretty good at playing poker. Being good at math really helps as well as my bluffing style which I deliberately make unpredictable.

I've actually won a jackpot once on a slot machine, but it was a very small jackpot ($25) but it was really exiting anyway.

I won $150 at Caesar's Windsor on video blackjack, which was enough to pay for my whole trip and then some. :)

I used to regularly go play blackjack and made quite a bit of money over my "career". I'd usually make about a $100 profit on like $40-60. I did lose $100 one night though. :(

Over the summer I started playing Hold 'em with my buddies when we'd drink. I started getting pretty good, but I don't think I'd do well against unfamiliar people.

When I was TDY in Biloxi I played black jack with a friend at the casinos. I had no luck myself, but I could hold my drinks better. So we developed a system. As he got more drunk while playing I'd tell him when to hit or when to fold.

If I'd been playing I would have never gotten the cards we needed, but with me keeping him "sober" we managed to clear 1,800 bucks or so across the 3 month TDY.

So on our last weekend in Biloxi we took two other friends and drove down to New Orleans where we blew it all in a weekend of stupidity. It was awesome.

Unrelated: The song alluded to in the title of this thread now wedges itself firmly in my head every time I visit the forum. Thanks a lot, Jiro!

No, seriously, thanks. I love that song.

I used to play poker every Friday night on my first deployment. It was pretty awesome. Except nobody liked playing with me because I was unpredictable and would bet with no regard to what my cards actually were. I got worse about it as the nights went on because I would get progressively more drunk. Good times.

I like Lady Gaga.

And I suck at poker.
I once played poker for a string of weekends, trying to improve my game, but I have since decided not to bother. I can get more bang for my buck tossing my dollars into old Checker's cups when the light turns red and the hobo starts sifting his way through traffic. He'll give me a thumbs up.

I only play poker provided they are using cards like these

I used to play a heavily bastardised version of poker in business studies and we'd win loads of pointless shit which I'd throw away. Highlight was a substitute teacher telling us to stop once, and then giving up and walking away when we didn't. I miss that.

In fairness I was hiding under the table and crying during, and for twenty minutes after.

When I'm at my mom's house I'll play a weekly poker tournament, which I usually come out ahead in. It's just 7-9 people, but I usually do well, and the most I've won in a given night was maybe $50 or $60. I'm now on the mailing list of an undergraduate poker club, which hopefully will have some events.

I've played blackjack at a casino. I like playing poker more, but I'm less likely to lose a lot of money playing blackjack. My first time out I won $50.

For the last two years of college I played Magic: the Gathering, as my roommate bugged me to try it.

What, by teaching you tap three mountains for two red and one colorless to unleash a 2/2 red creature with haste? Yeah, there is potential there; potential to be a dork.

*I am unfamiliar with the subject matter, honest.

I'm ok at poker but don't have the talent or energy to keep up with the constantly changing online scene

Play poker semi-regularly, smallball tournaments with friends/family netting 50.00 at a time.

I frequent a local casino and one night got stupid, went into the high limit slot room and sat down with 200.00 at a 10.00 per spin machine - I won 2750 then played a different one and won another 500. Best night ever!
