or was the entire story of this game just one jumbled mess?

i've just finished the first dissidia and seriously there isn't so much a story as a bunch of nonsensical pseudo-proverbs about journeys and friendship and love

it's like watching the x factor pretty much

i honestly think they could have took the time to explain more of what was going on in the actual story line rather than having to read it in reports and the like

any thoughts?

If you play through Dissidia 012 then the story will make a lot more sense. Also remember that the 10 destiny odysseys all happen at the same time, so many of those cut-scenes are shown out of order. An example is if you play through Bartz's story before Zidane's, you will be scratching your head wondering how Bartz even got to where he is. :p

yeah dissidia 012 will be next but i will have to wait til christmas for that

my mian problem with disidia though is the lack of any conversation of worth from the characters

all they seem to spout is lines like 'we are all on this journey for the future together', 'i know i can go on with the power of hope and friendship' and 'i'll always be in your heart with the power of light'

not exact quotes i know but it's that sort of stuff
you could imagine the script was written by manities picking balls at random like in that southpark episode :p

does dissidia 012 get better in this regard?

No, I've only played Duodecim and I'm in the same head-scratching boat as you are, with all the general statements being made and the vague plot, it was simply fan service and a weird kind at that. The gameplay itself is also kind of subpar, it's one of those games where everything is easy until you find a super hard challenge with an obvious equipment fix to the situation that renders the difficulty null and void. It's kinda a double failure but somehow you mysteriously end up with a pretty solid PSP game.

Its a fighting game, you'll only get your money's worth from fighting human players instead of sticking with the lousy A.I. even then, I would agree that some equipment set-ups are just brutal, though Duodecim has surprisingly balanced some of it better. At least the game now gives you a way to stop infinite EX-Mode set-ups so Cloud and Garland are not unstoppable.

It is a fan-service game, and I mostly ignore the plot cause the back story about Chaos, Cosmos, Garland and WoL is pretty silly in my opinion. The true joy of the 10 Destiny Odyssey quests is just watching how much they parallel to the characters true stories in their games, at least for some of them. Duodecim does a better job explaining things but its still not a full picture and sadly the 12th cycle only explains what Mateus is doing and help rectify why Kuja is such a drama queen. The interface is much better though...

Isn't that pretty much every JRPG?

Exactly. I gave up trying to make sense of it months ago.
