Noel...the name itself is bad. Noel? Its not badazz sounding or unique or anything. It just sucks. And then theres his whimpy wussy girly haircut with uninspired brown hair that is mediocre and dry as it gets. Heck, look at his face. It's not rememerable or anything. As bad as Tidus may have looked at least he had a rememberable face. Oh and his outfit. What is he some sort of genie? You can even see the end of his boots starting to curl up at the end like a genie. The lame pants...lol did Nomur design this as a joke? Walk anywhere dressed like that and get laughed out of town. Yes I know thats true with alot of Final fantasy costumes but this one is on a whole new level of absurdness. The whole outfit is cartoony shade of blue and he got a girlie looking design at the bottom of his "pants" or genie bottoms or whatever that trash is called. And his weapons. I gotta lil dagger and the most impractical sword eva and I'm gonnna save tha world!!!! This clown makes Tidus look lke Brad Pitt. He makes Lady Gaga's fashion appear sensible. Anyone feel the same?

It's actually pretty tame for Nomura. Remember this?

Both Noel and Seymour were designed by Yusuke Naora not Tetsuya Nomura.
FFXIII-2's main art directors/designers:
-Naora (FF7~10).
-Isamu kamikokuryo (FF12 and FF13).
-Hideo Minaba (FF6, FFT and FF9).

Nobody can top Nooj when it comes to bad fashion. Noel is okay in my books for now :p

What if he actually is a genie? You don't know. Guy's from the future.

Fashion from the future is not fashion form now. :p

Yeah, imagine someone from the 80s going back in time to the 50s. He would look pretty weird to them. He also may inadvertently stop his parents from meeting and have to enlist the help of his scientist friend to make things right. Do I smell the plot of FFXIII-2 here?

But, back on the point, let's face it, Noel is a useless, bland waste of space

If only he had a weather-related name, like Dewdrop.

If I'm not mistaken (which I well may be), artistic director and character designer are two completely different positions. FF 1-6 and 9 credited Amano, 12 and 14 credited Yoshida and 7, 8, 10, 10-2 and the whole 13 family credits Tetsuya Nomura as character designer, It even said so on the early screenshots. So yeah, I think art designers are responsible for the game's artistic feel as a whole, while character designers, well... design the characters. So we can totally blamde Seymour and Nooj on Nomura :D

Give me your time machine. NOW. I also want to go to the future and fully play this game so I can make an in-depth, based-on-experience judgement of Noel. :D

...

Wait, what's that? You don't have a time machine? You haven't played the game?! You know no more aout Noel than the rest of us do?! O.o

I don't know much about Noel and I think it's far too early to make a call on a character until the video game is released and we find out more regarding his story and personality.

Also, Tidus is awful and saying that Noel makes Tidus look good is a terrible thing to say. Even if Noel turns out to be a stinking turd, that doesn't make another stinking turd look good. It just makes them both look like stinking turds.

Clowd your post made me actually LOL.

Sometimes character designers have to create the fashion trends of a fictional culture, and his outfit is no more crazier than that of various cultures on our own planet. You're crying over nothing.

I dunno, I don't see anything wrong with him.

But then I don't dislike Tidus either, so perhaps I'm just overly tolerant.

I think for the most part the fashion is much less silly after FFVI. Pre-FFVII games get a free pass since there's so little detail xD

I'd say Tweety. Elmer Fudd and Tweety have similarly shaped heads, but this moogle has more bird features than it does human.

Well, since no one else stepped up to defend poor Noel... I'll be the one.

I think it's funny how much people boohoo and whine over characters before they have even played the game. Having played and completed the main story of XIII-2 now, I can say that Noel and Caius are the most interesting characters in it. Noel's appearance is perfect to me. I think the "generic" haircut gives him a very trustworthy and gentle tone, and sets him up as a normal person, not a stereotypical FF badass hero. It sure beats the hell out of the nightmare that is Snow's mullet.

As for his clothing, it looks just like Fang and Vanille's Pulse clothing from the original, but a little more modern with the addition of the spandex shirt, so I think it keeps with the style of the game very well and makes sense since he is from the future. It also has very obvious Japanese influences, and overall I think he looks very handsome and soft on the eyes as a character. It complements his personality well because he is rather upbeat, caring, and strong. I'm glad they created a character like this for this game because 13 had a complete lack of likable or relatable male characters. Snow was a big dufus, Hope was a whiny emo brat (though he slowly grew on me), and Sahz was a stereotypical comedy relief. Overall, I feel that 13 does extremely well with character development and giving the characters real personalities instead of straight up stereotypes, but as far as the males are concerned I never found the characters of 13 to be very interesting. The female leads really drove the experience for me, which is very rare for me as I am male and tend to relate more with the male characters.

So, in summation, don't knock Noel till you've played the game. He is a really great character and refreshing to see after all the weak and moody males in the original 13. The last thing Final Fantasy needs is another brooding emo pretty boy. Noel definitely is not that.

Noel defender #2, then? Anyway, I felt his outfit was the most sane design out of Square's clothing department since... Uh... Well, Yuna does come pretty close, actually. Can't think of anything else before then that looked like the designer had been drinking something else than water at the time of creation.

(Snow fails on account of running around in a big coat, solid shirt and pants and a hat while most of the others wear bugger all. Plausibility check fail.)

#3!

It's early days but he makes the game for me so far.

Imagine if the game was just Serah ditzing around. Gah, no. The game needs someone who is strong, leader-like, knows what they're doing, and the additional pluses this guy has!

Cheers to that! And LOL @ Silent Warrior's observation about Snow's coat. He must be one sweaty mother. XD

I think Noel's clothing is at least practical. The spandex top looks breathable and movable, and the pants remind me of the traditional pants that samurai wore with their kimonos in Japan. Giant and baggy, a little funny looking, but at least you can move about in them.

Noel is the best character in the game. Hope second.

Really? I may have to but the game just to see a world where hope could be second best at anything besides whining.

I think the complaints about Hope in FFXIII are greatly exaggerated. That said, Hope in FFXIII-2 is a pretty cool dude. I thought it was really neat zipping into the future to see his legacy. He definitely had the largest influence in the way the world turned out.

I agree, Hope played the biggest role in this game it seems like. The reason I like hope so much is how much I hated him at first in 13. He starts out as a really annoying emo kid, and slowly grows up. I was surprised to find myself liking him later in the plot. I thought he'd be an emo stereotype all the way through. I think 13 has exceptional character development. Hope became one of my favorite characters. Thankfully, they elaborated on his awesomeness here.

I don't dislike him, but I have been waiting for his character to truly take off. I think I am roughly 60-75% through the main story of the game.

I could care less what the dude wears. I have accepted a long time ago that Final Fantasy characters have ridiculous outfits.

I DEMAND a 13 page compare/contrast essay on how Wakka's blitzball in comparison to Noel and his perfectly razor sharp piece of flesh severing, head decapitating metal/steel/whatever Dagger(s) (which also transforms into a throwing spear) can possibly save the world LOGICALLY.

I gave you your thesis. No wikipedia. Start writing.

I actually did get hit in my area with a Blitzball. As I was falling to the ground in pain, the thrower said, "wakka wakka wakka!"

I tried laughing, but that only made my situation worse.
