Anyone care to race to the end of Megaman 3 with me tomorrow?

I will start playing at midnight GMT+1. In other perhaps more populated time zones, that would be:

Los Angeles - 3 PM
New York - 6 PM
UK - 11 PM

I also intend to be logged on to Skype during the entire playthrough, if you also have skype or are willing to download skype, I think you should join in on a group phone call so we can scream together whenever we fall down pits or are hit by robotic animals. It'll be great.

Sooo, if you want to join, I suggest you get these three items before tomorrow:
-A NES Emulator (or a NES, lol.) I suggest Nestopia if you don't have any particular preferences.
-a Megaman 3 rom. (or the actual cartridge, rofl.) Can be downloaded from torrent sites or wherever, just google around.
-Skype.

My skype handle is gulpestyggen

Add me plz and let's get this thing on the road!

Also, the reason why I picked exactly Megaman 3 is mostly random, but also because I want this to actually get done. If I opened up for suggestions I have a feeling this would just turn into a thread where people shout out a whole bunch of games and nothing past that ever happens (http://forums.eyesonff.com/feedback-forum/123055-eyes-plays.html). Instead, the winner can choose the next game if there is a next time. Yay!

Shoot man, this sounds fun. I could probably win, too. I've beaten MM3 more than any other Mega Man. I could play those levels in my sleep. Playing on PC emulator sucks though. Luckily I have my old Mega Man Collection for PS2. I think.

Levian

Cool! It's been quite a few years since I last played it, and I think I've only completely beaten it once. I do have some general megaman skills though, so hopefully that will come in handy.

Levian

Of course, if nobody joins me in this holy quest, I'll just play some Majora's Mask until I pass out instead.

Jiro
10-09-2011, 12:50 PM
So it started about an hour ago? oh dammit, that's too soon! I will start trying to download this rom find this NES :shifty: and join you!

Levian
10-09-2011, 01:01 PM
Nah, it'll start in.. 10 hours.

Ready then? or is it like in some weird time of the day for you then?

Jiro
10-09-2011, 01:04 PM
Alright, I'm kicking it old school now. seiken_jiro on skype hit me up baby

(smurf you BoB I'm not merging this post I'm busy fighting)

Never really played MegaMan before so this ought to be interesting!

Levian
10-09-2011, 01:10 PM
Jiro and I just talked in Skype and we agreed to postpone this by one hour, meaning that these are the new times:

Los Angeles - 4 PM
New York - 7 PM
UK - Midnight

Jiro is starting this 9 AM. xD Geez, what a champ!

Jiro
10-09-2011, 01:58 PM
Okay so after a brief practice session with encouragement from dear Levian, I have come to the realisation that this game will utterly destroy me, and then I will be rebuilt as a better human being who loves to be beaten (by video games).

But seriously guys this is awesome you need to play. I should probably get some sleep in preparation for the big day. Hope I don't have any commitments tomorrow :shobon:

Levian
10-09-2011, 04:29 PM
Haha yeah, just talking to you via text while you were fighting like a champ against spikes and vanishing blocks was awesome. Voice call's gonna make it even better. ;)

I've never beaten a original series Mega Man game before, but it has always been on my to do list. I don't have any illusions of beating it in a single sitting, but if I am available I might sit down and give it a try tonight.

Now if you guys ever want to speed run any of the MMX games....

Levian
10-09-2011, 05:08 PM
This is mainly just for fun, so how far you get or what you want out of this is entirely up to you. Jiro hasn't played this game before today either, so you're not alone! Care to join us on skype though?

I'd love to do Megaman X as well some day. I've only played the first three, and I've only beaten the first one.

Del Murder
10-09-2011, 05:13 PM
I'll play, but I don't have a webcam so I can't Skype.

Levian
10-09-2011, 05:19 PM
Cool! we won't be using webcams, so you don't need that. Video calls between multiple people isn't possible on skype anyway afaik. but if you have a mic or an internal mic or something on your laptop you can join in by voice if you want to. there's also a parallell text convo as well like MSN uses, so even if you don't have a mic you can type to us.

Del Murder
10-09-2011, 05:29 PM
How can I type when I'm too busy kicking Gemini Man's ass? But I probably have a mic on this POS somewhere.

Levian
10-09-2011, 06:05 PM
You'll have time to type when you die a horrible death at Gemini Man. ;)
but yeah, mic would be much better

Majora's Mask; The creepy story of BEN. (long read) (http://www.facepunch.com/threads/999830)

Also, good luck, guys.

I would love to participate, but I don't think I'll have the time today. Especially if I want to actually post another set of census results.

Levian
10-09-2011, 08:28 PM
You know where to find us if you change your mind, it's never too late to join us. Unless Del has already beaten the game I guess.

Levian
10-09-2011, 08:30 PM
Maybe we should set some ground rules?

- No Password cheating.
- E-tanks are fine to use.
- No Save states

Sound okay? Anything else?

Del Murder
10-09-2011, 11:26 PM
Sounds good.

Levian
10-09-2011, 11:28 PM
Allrighty! See you all on Skype in half an hour. ;)

Del Murder
10-09-2011, 11:38 PM
I want to add no turbo controllers to the list of rules.

Also, I forgot my Skype name so when I had it sent to my email a completely absurd name I would never choose came up. So I think someone used my email to sign up for Skype by mistake since it is a common email.

Levian
10-09-2011, 11:48 PM
Yeah, good call.

Huh, weird! I had to do the same to figure out my handle, I always pick weird handles I don't remember, but at least mine was actually mine.

Imho Jiro is the winner because he is a megaman noob and he's seeing it through. Also because his victory posts are way more enthusiastic. Jiro is the winner. :colbert:

also this sounds quite amusing, I'd be well up for joining in a game if it's something I wanna play, doing any megaman other than X4 would result in the entire skype chat being me swearing probably. (even still with X4, but at least I think I'd be able to beat it without ragequitting life. Also because I need Zero or I can't do Megaman. Zero is necessary.)

Jiro
10-10-2011, 03:10 AM
Hard Man is done!

EDIT: I quit there, that's hard enough xD

Yeah, awesome effort from Jiro! I probably would've ragequit a long time ago if I was in his shoes.

and it was very fun, most of the action happened in the voice chat really, so this thread here really isn't very representative of how much fun we had or how excited we got when we won or how frustrated we got when we died in the same place for the fifth time in a row. I hope even more people join next time so it'll be even greater!

I wouldn't mind playing megaman x4, never played it before though, but that's part of the fun. Otherwise Im up for most anything when it come to games.

Jiro
10-10-2011, 03:22 AM
I finally figured out that the pain I was experiencing wasn't caused from rage, it was that I hadn't eaten breakfast. So mystery solved!

Voice chatting with the guys was awesome, ya'll were missin' out :D

EDIT: oh and as per the wager, I humbly resign :shobon:

DK
10-10-2011, 03:25 AM
Anything older would probably work for me, something that doesn't require too much dexterity because I can't imagine many people have PC gaming pads, and using the keyboard is hilariously dire for some games. But yeah should be good fun to join in :}

edit: and for the record, I'll warn you all in advance, if I end up doing one of these with you and win (not likely but still) I'm picking Super Punchout!! on the SNES. It'll be great, because that game is a total bastard. Probably the worst bastard of all time. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED

VeloZer0

Of course Zero is just MMX4's hard mode, so I don't know if it will lead to a decrease in profanity at all.

I'm totally down MMX4 if you ever decide to do it.

And Jiro, I congratulate you for getting as far as you did. It would take me all week to down that many bosses.

Del Murder
10-10-2011, 04:07 AM
I would likely cream you all in Super Punch Out. I could literally beat that game from Gabby Jay to Nick Bruiser in about 30 minutes.

MMX4 is a good option. I also have the Mega Man X Collection for PS2 but I think I've only played that one once.

DK
10-10-2011, 04:19 AM
My record times all added up together for the 16 fights come to just under 10 minutes, but it's been so long since i've played the game that I think I'd probably get to Mr. Sandman before I got my ass whipped. If I got past him I'd probably be alright up to Mad Clown, and then if I managed to get past him without smashing my computer I'd definitely give up on Roy Quarlow. I'd have to actually train on this game for a good month before I was ready to try and do a speedrun. I think the amusement would be more from having people who've never played it before play it, on skype, god damn can you imagine the comedy.

edit: also you don't understand, I actually need Zero or I can't do Megaman, it's that simple. IDK why but I absolutely suck at Megaman using Megaman. I think it's a mental thing more than anything. Zero is just a badass and I need the knowledge of having him there for me to be able to will myself to play MM games or I just can't do it, the pain and rage is too much otherwise

Del Murder
10-10-2011, 04:28 AM
Yeah all my top times were pretty low too. I even beat some of the Nintendo Power's best times. But it has been a while.

The MMX games are longer than the original MM games aren't they? How long would it take to do a MMX4 run?

DK
10-10-2011, 04:33 AM
No idea, I think they are still pretty much possible to finish in a sitting if you know what you're doing and are good at MM games. As for me, the only time I've actually beaten MMX4 was when I was playing with my friend who knows the games inside out, and I suck at Megaman as it is, but from all the ones I've played MMX4 was just the most fun which is pretty much why I suggested it. You and Levian would probably go alright I reckon, and any other experienced players. the rest of us will provide the swearing :)

Del Murder
10-10-2011, 04:36 AM
Well if you and Velo are down for MMX4 then I may just choose that. It will be fun to have some more in the bunch.

DK
10-10-2011, 04:40 AM
I'm definitely down, will have to try and hunt down a copy of the PC version from somewhere but it shouldn't be too difficult I think. Although, if you have any other games you can think of that'd be fun I'm pretty much open to anything, I know for a fact that too many Megaman games in a row is damaging to a persons sanity, so maybe we should break it up a bit to spare people like Jiro from too much unnecessary trauma. I'm pretty much cool with anything from the SNES/Megadrive era and backwards (Sonic 2 for example!)

NorthernChaosGod
10-10-2011, 04:50 AM
I'm down for some Sonic!

Jiro
10-10-2011, 04:59 AM
I already have so much trauma it's not funny. Well that's a lie, it was hilarious. I would like to be slightly more competitive at whatever we do next. I used to be a'ight at Sonic, I think.

VeloZer0
10-10-2011, 05:10 AM
I think you can run through a MMX game faster if you know what you are doing, with dash boots and all. IMO they are tuned a little easier as well.

edit: also you don't understand, I actually need Zero or I can't do Megaman, it's that simple. IDK why but I absolutely suck at Megaman using Megaman. I think it's a mental thing more than anything. That's kind of funny, because I am 100% opposite. I love the buster play style soooo much more. This is even despite the fact that Zero is one of my favorite characters of all time. Even in MMZ games I always prefer the underpowerd buster option.

We can do Sonic 2 as well, though there is no guarantee that I can finish it consistently. Though I am so busy the odds of me being available to participate on whatever date you pick is minimal.

Del Murder
10-10-2011, 05:17 AM
Sonic 2 would be a great choice! I think I will pick Sonic 2. :)

Jiro
10-10-2011, 05:59 AM
Pick a time and date then, Sir Delington. My vote is same time next week, 'cause it worked :aimsun:

Del Murder

Yes, same time is good. Sunday 10/16 at 4PM Pacific time.

Sonic and same time is cool with me. I've never played a Sonic game even half way, so this should be challenging enough in itself!
