Karaoke Round 3: Let's Duet!

So when I envisioned this round of the competition, I started out with two to three couples who would sing two songs a piece and we'd vote for our favorite team and they would go on to a head to head battle.

But that wasn't cluster-fucky enough for me. So here's the new plan.

In this round, all of the remaining contestants will sing duets with all the other remaining contestants.

That's right. Cluster-fucky.

Before we begin, a huge thank you hug goes out to Wolf Kanno, Cim, and Proto. You guys did an amazing job and I was sincerely entertained by your entries into the contest. Please take out all of your aggressions on the remaining contestants. ILU bbs.

Okay so! In this post we're not only going to reveal the pairings but we'll also reveal their song assignments before they complete them. Contestants will have one week to prepare their entries.

You can sing however you like, but your entries must feature each person in the duet singing in the same file. You can't give me two different uploads of you each singing and expect me to work with it. I'll kick you.

Someone sent me a PM asking how to do this and I replied with my thoughts the moment I read it some time back and since then, I've only got one more PM just now saying something like "C'mon, let's do this!" without saying actually what they want me to do. =| Hopefully, though, someone can confirm what it is we're doing and then I can act accordingly...

I did! Singing a duet with someone at the other end of the world is shockingly not as simple as "Oh, just record it on the one file." :( You have to plan out who sings what part, record them seperately and them have the files edited together. Recording on Skype/over the phone leads to a one or two second delay on most occasions and I've tried singing songs over the phone like that and it does not work if you want to sing at the same time! But yeah, when someone tells me how we're doing it, I'll do it.

It would be so much cooler if someone (not me) paid for us to all meet up so we could record this together. *nod*

Laddy - for our song, sing Marvin Gaye's part. You're better than me at singing, his part is more interesting, and I need YOUR song to get the timing for my accompaniment.

BoB - I have no idea what to do for our song since I don't know which is Aretha Franklin and I don't even know who Annie Lennox be. So pick one of them and sing it.

You just sing your part. Time with a video (link me the video if it's different than the one foaffles posted) so that I can listen to it. I will sing my part and then tweak the timing so we are *almost* in sync. Sing it in vocaroo or send me a mp3/wav/jpg. it's all good.

btw I am going on vacation. I leave Saturday. PANIC

As you know, the resident asian or something, I am obligated to be good at karaoke. Sadly I am not, but that doesn't stop my family and so forth to be incredibly and utterly devoted to this awesome act. And so I am going to show you some pictures of what sort of tech I have to work with at home.

Here is a little toy of ours. All of the audio input goes in. The cables are fiber optic cables for maximum fidelity. I didn't believe it either but my dad goes and tells me he did it. I guess along with being super awesome it helps to have a parent who installs telecommunications cabling!

Here's a shot of the actual tv and surrounding peripherals, and two of the speakers for surround sound. There's....4 of them. The tv itself is nothing special - it's a LCD tv (I bought a LED tv in January - now that is cash). Okay really - the sound system is great. I was listening to Les Miserables on it the other month and squeeeeee~

Although I don't think we need to give up on this altogether, why not do another solo round? Or just have more free-for-all rounds with no restriction. Those rounds are fun and as many people can get involved as possible since they aren't given specific songs to sing. *nod*
