So, incase no one knows... Apparently they completely remastered the FFXI intro cinematic (http://gamerescape.com/2011/11/26/ffxi-opening-now-with-more-cornrows/). And now they are looking at completely revamping the user interface (http://gamerescape.com/2011/11/29/ffxi-ui-to-get-completely-revamped/) due to limitations they are currently facing in the progression of the game's development.

This is pretty cool, and kind of opens things up for speculation. Especially since the Vita release is coming along. Is it possible that they are going to be setting the game up to be remastered all-together, dropping the PS2 support? I mean, it'd be make sense from a business standpoint as it wouldn't cost a whole deal and it'd most likely bring a lot of players back to the game even just to try it out. I could not imagine too many people play on the PS2 anymore, though I could be totally wrong about that.

I doubt they'd have to go through and remodel assets, but upping texture resolutions and changing to a more modern graphics engine (as in how everything is rendered with shaders, lighting, etc.) would be a really good move and would not cost much or take much time to get done.

What are your thoughts?

Sounds exciting. I'd certainly be interested in checking it out.
