You can tell Lightning's voice actress was working on this and Mass Effect 3 at the same time. It sounds like the trailer is being narrated by Liara T'Soni.
So far I'm not a fan of Caius or the lack of hats covering Snow's terrible hair, but otherwise I'm really looking forward to this game.

I'm looking forward to the game on all aspects, except that I hope there's no crazy FFVIII-esque jacked up timeline plot that makes no sense. Overall, very glad I preordered. I'm going to hit it harder than I did FFX. Expect to not see me for the first three weeks of February.

Looks like its using Chrono Cross's main theme of what happens when you change history, though in this case it's Etro's fault instead of your party, kinda weird they seem to have dropped the whole Fal'Cie/l'Cie element that was the defining plot element of the original game. The gameplay sections look much better but I have zero interest in the plot since I hate XIII's cast and my fave character has at most in the entire XIII-2 promo period only been seen in the new extended XIII ending and that one shot of him with his son in the trailer, makes me think he's going to have a very very minor role in the plot instead focusing on the new characters and Lightning mostly, with Hope and Snow now getting supporting roles.

The battle system by itself (assuming it's been tweaked for the better) would probably make this game worth playing, at least. But the original plot had painfully poor writing, and I don't have any higher expectations for this game. At least it looked like there was some more side games, though what little wandering the video showed seem to involve the same follow-the-line gameplay from 90% of FFXIII.
No Sazh is also highly disappointing. Lightning is good, but the only thing I liked about Snow was his music.

It still makes no sense. Tidus and Yuna laughing, yes. This? Just one line that's edging towards cheesy, not even delivered that bad. There's probably a hundred of valid reasons for naysaying against XIII-2. That line is not one of them. :-/ Not to say you can't have XIII-2 kill FF for you, by all means, go ahead, but still, it's just one dumb little line of text. About 2 seconds of a 40 hour game. Yeah, no, still not seeing how that can kill FF when we've had worse. :O_O:

FFXIII is the only FF that I've considered trading in.
So last week at g-stop FFXIII took a permanent price plunge to 9.99 new and 8.99 preowned. FFX+FFXII are STILL worth a dollar more preowned, than XIII........(CONSIDERING THEIR AGE) and if anyone is familiar with how g-stop works, they give low prices like that when a game series has 3 sequels, and it also depends on how old it is/if it's not selling.
(oblivion+mass effect 1 are still worth 19.99 preowned D: ) + ( assassins creed was worth 14.99 till revelations, the 4th in the series, came out XD)....
So that's incredibly bad on XIII's part, it's probably going to drop to $2.99 when the new one releases :x

Uh no dear, I actually have been working for the company for the past 3 years. Not proud of it, but it's a fun job. Last time I checked 2 weeks ago, FFX/FFXII both sold for 9.99 pre-owned =_=; And btw, all gamestops run the exact same and will have the same trade in values/prices at all 5000+ locations/online. That $2 price sounds more like a trade in value xD;
Hope I didn't sound rude but I was just trying to make a point, it's sad that a game that has only been out for like a year and a half is worth 8.99 :(
p.s. Final Fantasy X for PlayStation 2 | GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/ps2/games/final-fantasy-x/16038) 14.99 proof it's worth more than FFXIII?
Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360 | GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/xbox-360/games/final-fantasy-xiii/75085) -FFXIII 8.99
Final Fantasy XII for PlayStation 2 | GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/ps2/games/final-fantasy-xii/41931) -FFXII 7.99 oops I was off by $2
So yeah I'm not making this up.

It really depends what you thought the problems were. I thought both the combat and item/leveling systems were way too simplistic and shallow, which I don't think has been addressed so much as tweaked. I thought the plot was poorly conceptualized and written, which I haven't seen any developers mention as a flaw.
The main change I see is the linearity of the game reduced, which is an aspect I never had a problem with in the first place. (Though to be fair I think I am a minority of the people who didn't like it in this respect.)

I hate QTEs. They are pointless, obtrusive, and a general plague on gaming as a whole. They add nothing to a game, and they general ruin cinematic presentation by forcing you to focus on the buttons that appear, rather than the action and what is actually going on.
Square does have the track record of being the only company to implement QTEs well at all, which it did with the Kingdom Heart series, however, this game seems to be junking everything that KH did with QTEs in favor of the much more traditional (and much poorer implemented) God of War style.

If I were to identify what I think are the two biggest flaws of FF13, it is the linearity and the lack of connection to the world the game takes place in. The latter of those were likely caused by the game not having any towns or characters for you to actually interact with. The world pretty much felt like a stage which was made solely for the purpose of playing out the main character's story, not like a world that actually existed independently of them.
I didn't actually mind the battle system, the biggest problem I had with it was that they had you instantly lose if the character you control dies, and this issue is sorted out in the sequel. As for customisation, yes, it is a bit shallow, but i was more annoyed by not being able to efficiently utilize it until the end of the game, because money was so scarce. The equipment system could be made good if the game contains much more items with special and fancy effects.
As for QTEs, I hate them. I really hope missing one won't make me game over, or change some story elements for the rest of the game.

the trailer looks cool and all and i was looking forward to ff13-2, but now i'm not so sure. i loved ffXIII and hated it too .. it had promising potential a unique fighting system, decent music soundtrack, decent storyline, and stunning graphics but graphics isn't everything. its narrow gameplay up until gran pulse makes me wonder how i managed to have patience enough to get past all the horrible traits of ff13 not to mention once you can explore all of gran pulse which looks massive at that time because you are so use to narrow pathways to a cinema scene destination throughout most the game. the only side quest you got is pretty much missions wtf is that about? the gill was ridiculously hard to get and i'm not a big fan of how they did shops and did away with levels and made a crystarium cap that expands as story goes on. FF13-2 seems like it would redeem all the horrible traits of ff13 original but then i heard about dlc..... why squarenix? why do this to us? why charge us full price on a game and then make us pay several micro transactions to get a full games worth?? correct me if i'm wrong, and i really hope i am, but i saw somewhere they will add weapons costumes and bosses and other content via dlc. now if its just appearance stuff then that's fine i wont pay a dime for those updates but if its storyline content , and special endgame weapons with uber stats... that will just be soo wrong and evil to do that to the faithful final fantasy fans and paying customers. charge for a game and wait to release a lot of the content in dlc to make us pay even more to play the game. i hope i misunderstood , but the way i see it this is not an online mmorpg there is no reason why we can't get all of that stuff in the game that we already paid for. I've never played a game with the dlc feature so excuse me if i'm a newbie to the whole thing and just don't get it .. it just seems to me like a rip off. :(

The QTEs don't occur during regular battles (at least not any I played, they may activate during Feral Link attacks), but they do happen with some regularity during boss battles and cutscenes.
As for QTEs, I hate them. I really hope missing one won't make me game over, or change some story elements for the rest of the game.
From what I gather they either help you or change minor branching elements of the story (damage a boss, characters fight from above vs. below, etc) and do not play a major role in the story or fighting.

There are 5 relevant Cinematic Scenes in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Also others against Caius Ballad with Lightning and one with Noel against Caius (but they do not matter).
They always trigger at the end of a battle (except Lightnings - it triggers at the end of a battle but you continue soon after). And once you fail your characters start another move to give you another chance.

Square has lost it's way with Final Fantasy XIII, although many are glooming and dooming about the company as a whole it is really just this one installment that they've forgotten what makes Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy (not with XII as some would insist).
The overall storyline of Final Fantasy XIII was a mess -
It was difficult to understand what your party was trying to accomplish at any point of the game
The Fal'Cie's powers were vague and too omnipotent for it to be believable that they lost to the party - I.E. bringing back a dead Cid.
The world was not properly fleshed out. Unlike previous games the player does not gain an attachment to the regions they are in, there is no Dalmasca, Alexandria, Lindblum, Midgar, etc. to become attached to. It's one thing to remove long sits in towns, it's another thing to remove them completely.
Your main enemy is first, vague, then his intentions are vague, then his intentions are unrelatable.
There are almost no established non-playable characters to care about. Really there's Serah and that's about it and even with her she spends almost all the game being a statue.
The entire backstory is thrown in menu's and a large database. Unlike FFX, FFIX, or any of the previous games, I do not have an understanding for the mechanics of Pulse and Cocoon without reading through boring data-pad-esc menus.
This new game, instead of working on the faults of the previous, is throwing in a new random enemy, again with intentions I will probably not hear about or understand and is completely dropping the poorly fleshed out ideas introduced in the previous game, L'Cie, and the Fal'Cie.

^ When it comes to Final Fantasy, I think we could knock every entry in the series off its axis for its story. A lot of the things you mentioned specifically apply to a lot of the games. For me, it was the game design that disappointed in XIII, but I can't say either that or story were bad enough to make the game as big of a deal as this forum makes it out to be.

I just think theirs an issue with the plot when during a replay of it you feel no more enlightened. Even in FFVIII when I replay through I have a greater understand of events because of my knowledge of Ultimecia. Barthandelus's emergence is rather early and doesn't really shed light on the story other than "we're all being controlled by the Fal'Cie" a topic already introduced.
