i was thinking of buying final fantasy 5 and 6 for a handheld to play again when i get based overseas and was wondering which versions you guys consider the best an why? the GBA or the one you can buy off the playstation store?

i'll probably end up going for whichever is cheaper but would still be good to know anyway

For sure the GBA versions. The PSN versions are based on Anthologies, which is one of the worst ports. The GBA ones have extras and run smoothly. But they will likely be much more expensive.

The GBA versions are better, except the audio quality.

heh i've played the anthologies and yeah those were pretty slow and sluggish...though i didn't think much of it at the time as i just assumed that's how these old games would have played
just a shame the GBA ones are going for silly money on ebay and amazon :(

gba runs better, has awesome bonus stuff, but the cheapest vs of 5 advance you are going to find will be like $18, the cheapest for 6 advace will be around $26

Runs better relative to PS1, yeah, but not relative to the original SNES version :p. It is a noticable step down in performance and sound/graphics.

I would think they would, I have japanese gba games that pla on my gbasp, and they worked on my ds.

I would send you my advance 5 in the mail but I have no Idea how much it would cost to send it across the ocean.

I'm pretty sure the GBA and DS are not region locked, so you would be able to play them on your handhelds.

IMO I like how FFV runs on PS1, the load times of that versions FFVI don't plague the game. Although I'm sure the GBA version is smoother, I've yet to try it, and you can easily get FFV right now for cheap off the PlayStation store and pop it on a PSP if you got one.

FFVI, anything but PS1 version.

I'm from the UK and I bought a Game Boy Advance SP and a copy of FFVI for it. The console was cheaper!

It was £13 for the console and £18 for the game.

Money well spent in my opinion.
