From the front page of the forum:

Most users ever online was 1,228, 06-14-2006 at 11:40 PM.

So what on earth happened that day? I can't remember if I was here for that or not. Or maybe nothing special actually happened because that was back when we had millions of people online all the time.

Women's Day in Iraq?

Seems the most likely.

I think we just had a lot of people on. Nothing spectacular. We were just the bees knees :D

Skynet began preliminary testing and sent a a horde of bots to lurk in our threads.

That or it was the day Genji and demondude made hundreds of second accounts between them.

I vaguely remember it being an actual concerted effort to break the record and I was asleep.

The bots loved us more back then. Now most of them are ignoring us like the emotionless, metal bastards they are.

That's a lot of bots.

I feel like someone has asked this before. And then we tried to break the record. We should break the record.

April 9th. Because on April 9th, 1860, Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville made the oldest known recording of an audible human voice on his phonautograph machine.

It shall be a glorious reawakening.

I vote for June 4th 2012 for the record attempt. That is the date of the annual Cheese Rolling contest at Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire, England.

What better way to celebrate lots of insane people gathering on the pages of EOFF than by watching lots of insane people dangerously chasing an 8-pound piece of Double Gloucester Cheese down a steep hill.

This is almost as good as Rutabaga Curling (http://www.rutabagacurl.com/).

The bots used to lurk in flocks back then. Nowadays, they can be found registered and posting among us.

That's not the attitude John Connor had! RISE AGAINST THE MACHINES!!

Would it be okay if I created dummy accounts to flood the 'most users ever' record?

I won't post as them. I'll just log in and lurk.

Nothing significant happened unless it was during a ciddies thread. Let me check.

It was during the ciddies but that revelation thread was June 16th :/

Lies. Does curling commonly cause broken bones? Did two people suffer spinal injuries at the 2011 Rutabaga Curling? Did anyone dislocate their shoulder? I challenge you to a ridiculous-contest-off! xD

While we're on the subject, curling is the sport of champions.

Okay so while curling is a pretty cool sport and all, I still can't ignore the fact that it is hardcore sweeping. I mean c'mon guys.

It was indeed the bots, but not the spambots that have been mentioned. Yahoo! Slurp Spiders infested our forums in a big way. And I mean big! Couldn't move a foot without standing on them.
