Is anyone going for the Platinum trophy / 100% Achievement? I'm gonna give it my best shot. It's great gameplay so it's not too frustrating... at the moment I'm fighting all the various monsters I've yet to fight until now so I can get another fragment.
I think the trickiest one may well be the 99,999 hit, since in my case I never bothered with boosting specific stats in any way. I don't hit anything close to that amount yet, but then again, I've yet to really try. Fingers crossed with the strategy in the official guide I might be able to crack it.

I'll probably just get all the fragments and call it a day. Or, more likely, get 159 of the fragments, get sick of the game while trying to hunt down every monster, and then view the extra ending online.

I've found the monster hunting to be a very easy task so far. Of course, having the guide is what makes it easy, so I imagine that if you don't have it then it will be an annoying task to say the least. But I imagine we'll have a bestiary up eventually at EoFF to help people with this one... hopefully!

I've never done 100% Achievement on anything. FFXIII was supposed to be the first, but that dumb hold every weapon and accessory thing was just too tedious. I might try it for FFXIII-2.

I have already done this, finished it this morning (I nicked my brothers 360 just for this xD).

If you have the guide then you should follow what it says in there for the 99,999 hit, I did as it says and got it easy.
The only one I envisage getting annoyed with is the Beast Tamer achievement, bastard Don Tonberry never rears his face >.<

Maybe I got lucky, but I was doing my first playthrough of Bresha Ruins 100AF yesterday and fought 3 Don Tonberries (no drop). He mostly appeared at the entrance to the ruins by the gate.

Finally got the Beast Tamer Achievement, its quite strange actually, I found a way to make the Don appear constantly, I borrowed my brother 360 and went into the game without re-downloading Light and Amodar (the only 2 people in my paradigm pack), and decided just for a laugh to fight the Don without replacing them with other monsters, so here I am running about Bresha trying to find the Don, only to come to that dip in the floor (you know the one with the metal grill like flooring) and bam, I get into a fight with the Don, so I attack and defeat him (was a little challenging with just 2 but easily doable) no crystal, so I decided that since I had been running all around the place trying to find him I would stay here and then the very next fight... another Don, I fought the Don 6 times in a row and finally got his crystal, I change my party pack to have a mob in there and alla sudden regular mobs spawn, I run a short distance to make them despawn, remove the mob from my party pack and bam... Don number 7 spawns.
Edit: Finally done it, 100% complete, all achievements ^^
I finally got all 160 Fragments last night (the friggin Bestiary completion one was by far the most time consuming, but I had fun doing it). I got all the Paradox endings. I maxed out Noel and Serah's crystarium. I fully explored every area and killed every [non-dlc] boss.
I'm still missing like three trophies, all of which are "Hidden" so I have no clue what they are. I figure I'll address them when that new Sazh episode comes out on the 28th.

I have 2 fragments left, the beast tamer (which I think will be fun to try and get) and the dumbass 7777 one from serendipity. Its annoying that you really have to continually play that annoying slots game till you win 7777 coins...
Is it a cumulative total of 7777[like if you win 100 and then lose that gambling are you still considered up 100]? A cumulative total in one sitting? Or do you have to be +7777 to get it?
Del Murder

So the bestiary was not nearly as bad as I thought. Some of the ones in Academia 500AF were a little trouble but not tedious at all. The encounter system and the ease of travel in this game made it so. They did a really good job with both in this game. In fact, I see this encounter system to be the future of RPGs.
Then I got to 7777. What the smuf is this crap. I do think it's only based on cumulative winnings and not net winnings so that's a little better, but god damn why would they put this fragment in there? So now my L1 button is rubber banned down while I watch The Bachelor.

You should consider yourself lucky, I got through Matrix+Reloaded and half way through Revaluations before the god damned fragment dropped.
If you tell me the names of the Bombs you have I can tell you where the last one is.

I have one mob left as well! The T-whatever on Academia 500. Urgh, that means I have to go through the entire maze again. I will be so glad once that's over.
...and then I'll have to do the 99,999 hit etc. afterwards, which to be honest will probably be far less of a chore. I spent a massive amount of time making 'perfect' monsters, so I guess I got more than a bit sidetracked. :) The advantage is that every battle has been a breeze since then. And I super-love my awesome Purple Chocobo that I have given every single buff possible via infusion. I have named it Iris and she is epically good for my longer battles. Otherwise it's just Cerberus for everything now, with Odin fighting alongside me. Although his Ruin sucks balls, so sometimes I bring in the Blue Chocobo. In retrospect, this game has been highly addictive, particularly with regards to monsters.

yeah he was just killed but is now alive... So much of the plot in this game sucked, but you know what? I liked it way better than 13. 13 had a good tight plot with terrible gameplay, 13-2 has a terrible plot with good game play.

Shame they couldn't get everything into one game, but them's the breaks. I still think the majority of FF endings are balls anyway, so I'm not that bothered by it. I'm now one trophy short of Platinum (Giant's Fist) so I'll get that done tonight and then be done with the game from my end, too!
I have to concede I actually enjoyed the monster hunting.
I must of just got lucky because I got the 7777 on my first trip to Serendipity after playing the slot machine for maybe five minutes. I didn't even know I had it until I was looking up the fragments I had left to get and I already had it. :p

4 fragments left, the two from the serendipity shop and the bestiary and friggin yomi
recommendations on how to fight yomi? i'm trying to poison him but it never works quickly enough before he gets tired of it and kills me

Yomi was the hardest fight for me. I don't actually remember how I beat it. May have just been the old level up and then smash it technique.
Loony BoB
09-03-2012, 10:49 PM
Yomi? Here's what the guide has to say... I'm guessing I used something similar to it.
Pack: Bunkerbeast SEN L30 / Dendrobium SAB L90, Yakshini SYN L45
Deck (Serah/Noel/Monster): SAB/SYN/SAB, MED/SYN/SAB, SAB/SAB/SAB, MED/MED/SYN (Convalescence-W), COM/COM/SYN, SEN/SEN/SEN
Weapons: If you can get the ones that increase ATB charge by 50% (dropped by Immortal) then you should be good to go. Alternatively, use Romulus/Remus.
Tactics
- Get Vigilance/Protect/Shell/Veil sorted on the whole party, one member at a time. The buffs last longer this way. Alternate between Espionage and Evened Odds paradigms to speed this up. You should finish buffing halfway through the first Impenetrable Aura. After ever Impenetrable Aura, go to Infiltration and cast poison as this is what will do most of the damage throughout the fight.
- Once poison is sorted out - usually after Deshell/Curse - shift to Convalescence-W to heal up during Impenetrable Aura.
- Yomi will eventually buff with Protect and Faith. Once it has Faith, go to Tortoise for each Wind Shear attack ASAP or basically you'll die.
- Sadly Yomi will do that Putrescence attack a lot and it removes the most recent two buffs. Keep Bravery/Faith up if only to ensure they are the first two buffs to go - the other buffs are more important and having Bravery/Faith as a "first line defence system" of sorts will ensure that Vigilance/Protect/Shell never (or at leastly rarely) go away.
- Yakshini and Denbrobium have good Feral Link attacks for this fight.

i've been doing something similar but poison rarely ends up sticking early on in his non-impenetrable mode
i guess i'll try later once i have bravery/faith synergists

it's my fave new monster pet, it helped me with caius vs serah and now with yomi
he'll be there with me when i fight raspatil
all i need to do now is get the bestiary finished up and hit that stupid 100 consecutive great battle entries for the trophy and it's smooth sailing for platinum

Just finished this today! My first Platinum trophy xD I don't understand how some people claim 100+ hours on this. I finished EVERYTHING in 75 hours and 3 minutes, lol. Main game was roughly 50 for me. The only thing I didn't do was obtain every monster crystal, which in my opinion is really unnecessary (def unnecessary for the trophy) unless you're really anal about completion.
Toughest one for me was the beastiary. Thought I had got EVERY monster. Then realized I didn't have the woodwraith category. So then I have to go to Academia 500 and play that entire part over. Ugh.

I'm currently attempting to get a platinum too, actually. Although, I am not doing it in a very orderly fashion yet, but I will do it more systematically soon.
I just want to see how much I can get without following a guide like a slave first.

And there's my platinum.
And the slot machines were a retarded idea for getting the serendipious trophy. I spent forever on that, then just switched to chocobo racing and did it in two hours, including the time needed to earn money to level up and infuse my chocobo.
Loony BoB
01-24-2013, 11:25 AM
Blatantly went with the "tape down the button" strategy for the slots. Stupid thing for a trophy, I agree.
Mirage
01-24-2013, 12:45 PM
I taped it down too. It didn't get me anything. Well, except the fragment.
Loony BoB
01-24-2013, 12:48 PM
Oh, yeah, I mean that it's stupid that you have to tape it down to get the fragment to get the trophy.
Mirage
01-24-2013, 12:56 PM
Well the fragment isn't as bad as the trophy. The fragment is just winning stuff regardless of how much you spend, so you can just throw money at the problem and it'll go away. The trophy actually requires you to profit from it, and it needs to be done in one single serendipidy visit.
In either case, I don't think I'll touch the game again now. Not in a very long time, if ever. Maybe I should platinum FF13 too.

I found FFXIII worse than FFXIII-2 when it comes to hitting Platinum, if only because of the number of fights you need to have vs. the Adamantoise to get enough gil for all the upgrades.

Just got 100% last night. Secret ending was basically garbage like the normal one. Decided to buy the DLC episodes. Finished Snow's and Sazh's. I'll be doing Lightning's tonight, probably beef those three characters up and take a shot at the Coliseum DLC. Then I'm done I think.

I'm not going to give SE any more money for playing this game, but maybe that's just me. The DLC is short and the stories in them are apparently just as terrible as the rest of the game.

And yes, I agree. I actually had a good time getting the platinum trophy in this one. Save for Serendipitous and the chocobo steps one. But I did find that your characters needed to be much more advanced to finish the platinum in XIII than in XIII-2. I had all Lvl. 99s by the final chapter.
Mirage

Well, the only actually hard enemies for trophies in FF13-2 were the solo-Caius fights, but it wasn't too bad after i remembered that there was an easy mode in this game that would still grant you the fragments.
Oh yeah, I guess that undying cieth in oerba was pretty hard too, but that was about it. I spent forever on that fight, but thankfully I didn't need a good score at all to get the trophy.
I kinda wish the game had some more bosses that required really stong characters (or strategies). I feel like the bosses offered in the game were all pretty... well they weren't weak, but they weren't hard to win consistently against. All my monsters were pretty much a hodgepodge of skills that i thought sounded cool, without a lot of thought put into them. I kinda wish there was an enemy where i would actually need to put +36str on my monsters, boost their hp to 18k, have specific defensive skills or get completely destroyed etc.

I got the platinum about a month or 2 after it came out :D :D :D
There didn't need to be any harder bosses. The one in Oerba drove me crazy! Instead of making interesting enemies, they made ALL of them constantly heal so the fights took ages but if it was too long then they'd cast death on you. So glad I don't need to try and get platinum more than once >.<
Mirage
01-28-2013, 12:55 AM
Only the one in oerba took a long time. I don't think i spent more than 5 minutes on any other enemy. The oerba one is a lot faster if you can deal with the adds fast, cause surviving adds is how he regenerates.
