Gotta Go Fast: Sonic Speed Challenge!

Okay guys, I have an idea. We currently have a Sonic 2 challenge going on where you see how far you can get before you get a Game Over. Here's a challenge that focuses on something else that Sonic is all about: speed!

Each week I'll post a zone and act from one of the "original" Sonic games (anything between Sonic 1 and Sonic 3&K). Your challenge? To get through said act as fast as you possibly can and then post a screenshot of your results! If we get enough participation, I'll see about setting up a points system and I'll keep track as we go along, so we can see who the fastest is! :kakapo:

I can get 0:26 fairly well now, but I can't come close to 0:25. Worst part is when Sephex posted his 0:27 shot that's what I had at the time as well. Then he posts 0:26 and five minutes later, I finally get 0:26 :(

I'll keep trying for the next couple days, but I expect I'll be taking second place.

Dude! Good job! I was actually pulling for you! I was going to wait till Monday to post this video, but since someone tied my time, the point is moot, and now I don't care how many people do what I did. Anyway, I went back and played it again today and set a 0:25 time again, but this time I recorded it!

You can post as many screenshots as you like; your fastest time will be accepted as your final time.
You may play on any system (original, XBL arcade, Steam, emulator, etc.) so long as it is essentially the original game.
If the version you are playing lets you choose between Sonic, Tails, or both, you ARE allowed to choose.
This challenge includes the boss fight; we are timing the whole zone up until freeing the animals at the end.
No Super Sonic.
Honor system: no save state abuse. You may save the very beginning of the level for quick restarts if you wish.

Well, it is a terrible level. I absolutely hate the Chemical Plant. Nonetheless, I will give this a shot once I start my attempts at Sonic 2 for the gaming competition.

Well, then I guess I'll never get any rep again on this forum if that's the case. Honestly though, I wouldn't hate it were it not for those god awful moving platforms towards the end. I'm cool with obstacles in a sonic game, but Sonic controls like ass once he's airborne. He was not meant for precision landings.

The Chemical Plant zone is clearly the greatest Sonic level of all time for 3 reasons!

1) That fucking music is awesome. No contest on the ability just just chillax and get down to some nice whatevers
2) Those tubes are fun and magical and fun
3) The Helix can be ridden on top of the bottom but you can't switch mid helixing. This opens up a world of possibilities when playing the level and always makes you wonder how to get from on the other one while playing

All of the other levels are too straight forward and lack a super awesome track.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Ice Cap Zone (Both Acts)

Here's the way this will work: You can submit screenshots for either act of Ice Cap Zone, or both. They will be treated separately, so points will be given out for the best time on either zone. So even if you don't have any points yet, you'd have a great chance to catch up now if you snag first place in both of these!

Be sure to get your results in by Monday, April 9.

I never played Sonic 1 or Sonic 2 actually. But despite that, I used to play Sonic 3 like crazy back in the day. It was my fav game for at least a year or so. It's been a while now, but I might give this a shot too.

Nobody has ever actually been able to pull off the level select cheat for Sonic 3.

Knuckles' Ice Cap zone isn't even the same level as the one for Sonic and Tails. >_> Should probably be a separate challenge.

Are you referring to the level select code? Sonic 3 & Knuckles level select code is different from Sonic 3 alone.

First level gave me a bunch of trouble because I kept hitting a glitch. It was very odd. I'd fall through the floor under that early part where you have to hit a switch and then jump down to a slope. It happened like ten times.
