When I was introducing FFVIII to my uncle Jonathan last year, one of the things he immediately noticed was the lack of voice-overs, in other words, you can't hear the characters talking and instead can only read what they say. I really didn't let this bother me, though I believe it would be an interesting concept if they tried it. Do you think having voice-overs for Final Fantasy VIII would have improved upon the experience?

I don't know about greatly enhanced but maybe. You never know. Don't underestimate the gravity a nice perky voice actor can have.

Voice-overs would improve the game a bit, but only when voice-acting is good.

I always liked text boxes more than voice acting, since the sound/tone was always left up to your imagination, that and it meant there were more times where you could manually select what the character would say. Also, the great soundtrack of the game stood out more cause the voices didn't get in the way.
I think it would generally make the game worse, unless it is done really really well.

Some of the amateur fandubs are really good, so I imagine Square's no-doubt highly skilled professionals, would do a fantastic job voice acting. Then again, they are a Japanese company and the American/Western releases might have sub-par voice actors, while the Japanese version would have excellent ones.

I think every Final Fantasy should be left unvoiced. As voice-acting for spin-offs and sequels... that way retarded die-hard fans can claim the voices aren't canon if they disapprove.

I don't think it would have improved FFVIII one bit. I love the game, but the dialogue was some of the worst in the entire series. There were some serious "who the hell says that?" lines. It was really bad at times, and I don't think Rinoa haters needed more bait. But seriously, can you imagine hearing a voice actually utter some of her lines? Craziness.
It would have made the dialogue worse (if that's even possible). Can you imagine Squalls depressing thoughts being spoken by someone? The mere thought brings a knife to my wrist.
