I've never listened to music over top of a FF game. If I really want a distraction from the video game I am playing I watch TV at the same time.

I have a long list of music on my playlist from playlist.com, and I would listen to that. There are about 140 songs on there, I believe, ranging from Michael Jackson, to Buddy Holly, to ACDC, to Quiet Riot, and much more. Lately, however, I've been getting back into 90s alternative rock like Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains.

I used to do that too, the only problem was I sometimes for got to pause when I switched to the TV, and when I got back to the game it was game over. Truth be told, I'm in the crowd that listens to the game music for hours on end as I level grind. My mind tends to wander, but no matter how many hours I spend at it, I let that theme music play. Mostly it just means those aren't the songs I'm likely to serial-loop when I listen to the soundtracks, heh.

Yeah, I listen to the game music. I don't typically grind for that long anyway, so there is no chance the battle music gets annoying. It's a masterful soundtrack anyway so on that one occasion I listened to my iTunes I was just playing other tracks from VII.

As far as the music goes, ya gotta keep this shit in perspective. The FF's are Japanese games. Japanese gamers are masochistic. The whole point is to make yourself as miserable as possible for as long as possible until you just can't take it anymore and find a cutscene for a brief moment of relaxation.

If you listen to anything but FFVII battle music you're a sacrilegious traitor and don't deserve to play SE games.
